The White Tower was originally built of Kentish Ragstone by William the Conqueror in 1078. Gallagher is able to produce stone that is given an ‘aged’ appearance to completely blend in with the original stonework. PRIVATE RESIDENCE Maidstone, Kent SPLIT FACED KENTISH RAGSTONE Kentish Ragstone was used as the main building stone for this house in Kent. The Kent vernacular was crucial to the design of the house, which was inspired by the traditional oast houses of the local area. The house was named RIBA and Grand Designs House of the Year 2017. It is a fine example of a project utilising local stone. PERIOD PROPERTY Smarden, Kent KENTISH RAGSTONE FLOOR TILES Kentish Ragstone floor tiles were specified by the owners of a 15th Century Wealden Hall for the new kitchen extension. The owners chose local materials to maintain the integrity and aesthetics of the build and ensure that the old house and new extension joined seamlessly together. The result was a kitchen floor that is both functional and attractive. KNOLE HOUSE Sevenoaks, Kent DRESSED AND BESPOKE KENTISH RAGSTONE Gallagher supplied dressed Kentish Ragstone including hand carved finials and gables to the conversion of the barn at Knole House into a Cafe and learning centre. The main house was built with Kentish Ragstone and the stone was specified to ensure the new facilities matched the original house. The restoration work at Knole House was Highly Commended in the 2016 Natural Stone Awards. LANGLEY PARK Maidstone, Kent SPLIT FACED POLYGONAL KENTISH RAGSTONE Gallagher supplied split faced polygonal Kentish Ragstone walling as the external cladding for a new housing development in Maidstone. Kentish Ragstone was specified by Maidstone planners to ensure that Kent’s vernacular and historical character was encompassed in the new development, which includes housing and a new supermarket. MARKS & SPENCER Sevenoaks, Kent HAND SPLIT AND RANDOM RUBBLE KENTISH RAGSTONE Sevenoaks planners worked with conservation officers to specify that Kentish Ragstone be incorporated into the design of a new Marks & Spencer store in the attractive market town of Sevenoaks. Gallagher supplied hand split and random rubble walling along with specific sized quoins for the external walls and loading bay..
