A home for 300 ukuleles and still plenty of space.
Rosehill Village in Te Awamutu is home to a surprising number of ukuleles – more than 300 in fact. Noeline Kennedy shares her spacious three-bedroom villa with her 300-plus ukuleles and loves the social community atmosphere and security in the Generation Homes development. A well-known travelling ukulele tutor, she also hires out and sells ukuleles. Noeline and her late husband David spent two years searching for a new home when they realised their one-acre property at Ohaupo was too much work. Unlike many retirement options, Rosehill Lifestyle Village house and land packages are owned freehold rather than licence to occupy. “We liked this idea. Rosehill is limited to 50 houses with good space between them. It is greateat to have a manager taking care of lawns and gardens,” Noeline says. Having chosen Rosehill took a huge load off her mind when David passed awayin October 2011. “It’s marvellous to have the chance to participate in social events even if you don’t get involved in everything.” she says. The village hall is a venue for coffee mornings and happy hours. Some people playbowls while others enjoy a weekly cards session. Many owners play pool or table tennis, they share a mid-year Christmas and Christmas dinner, and the social committee arranges various activities such as quiz and film afternoons, shared meals and BBQs. “A beautiful piano was gifted to the community and we have impromptu sing-alongs.” Noeline says. “I have made some fabulous friends and don’t want to live anywhere but this fantastic place.”.” For more information on home and land packages available at Rosehill visit www.generation.co.nz
