4 CHAMBER CONNECTIONS AUGUST 2016 CoverStory Shirley and Young To Be Inducted Into Hall Of Fame The Wiregrass area can be proud that it has so many outstanding business leaders. When you look in the history books for Dothan and Houston County, you find a vast manuscript filled with the names of individuals who have made significant impacts in the development of our area. Recognizing this, the Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce and Dothan Area Young Professionals established the Dothan Business Hall of Fame in May 2011 with the mission to pay recognition to local business leaders who have made an impact on the community by promoting the free enterprise system of entrepreneurship, civic leadership, philanthropy and humanitarianism toward their fellow citizens. Located at the Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce, the Hall of Fame is in a prominent area of the Chamber so those honored may be seen by Chamber members, prospective members, industrial prospects, visitors and the general public. In May and June of each year, the Hall of Fame’s Board of Advisors opens the nominations for laureates through the Chamber’s newsletter. This year, two more outstanding area business leaders will be added to the list of those previously honored during the 2016 Banquet and Induction Ceremony being held Tuesday, Sept. 13, at Wiregrass Church. The 2016 laureates are:

Thomas Allen “Tom” Shirley Home Oil Co. Inc. /Hobo Pantry Food Stores

Dr. Linda Young Wallace Community College

These individuals and their contributions remind us of the constant need for renewal and change and the opportunity for economic success. The inductees each year also serve as role models for our students, Thomas Allen “Tom” Shirley, those persons just beginning their careers and for new Home Oil Co. Inc. / Hobo Pantry Food Stores entrepreneurs. “We are planning a spectacular evening again this year to honor these two extraordinary individuals,” said Janice Shepard, program coordinator and the Chamber’s vice president of administration. “Dothan is where it is today because of their dedication and commitment to the growth of this area.” All are invited and encouraged to attend this special event. The evening will begin with a reception at 6 p.m. followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are now on sale through the Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce and are $50 per person or $750 for a reserved table (seats eight). If you have not received an invitation already, or would like to make a reservation, please call Shepard at (334) 792-5138 or email [email protected].
