Q Can you tell me what the situation is on land tax if I purchase a holiday home?

A As a second property, your holiday home will not enjoy the exemption from land tax that your primary residence enjoys. Land tax is levied every year on land with a total value of $250,000 or more. The taxable value is determined by your council. Your land tax will vary, depending on the total value of your landholdings. It pays to factor this ongoing cost into your pre-purchase property calculations.

Most people who work in Docklands today wouldn’t be able to imagine what the area looked like before it was developed.

But for Brian Tanti, the image of pre- development Docklands is still clear in his mind. “It was in a classic tumble weed, frontier kind of state,” Mr Tanti said. “It had been sitting idle for many, many years.” Mr Tanti began working in Docklands around 20 years ago as curator of the Fox Classic Car Collection and today is CEO of the AutoHorizon Foundation, the not-for-profi t organisation behind the FR-1 concept car. According to Mr Tanti, when he fi rst began working in Docklands the only other presence in the area was the Mission to Seafarers on Flinders St and an old 1950s caravan was the only place you could buy lunch. Fairytale ending to Mustangs' season

Th e are the 2014 Australian League champions after scoring a 6-1 victory over crosstown rivals to secure their inaugural win.

Th e Mustangs lead at every change and went on to record the comprehensive victory in front of a packed-out crowd at the Icehouse. Th e victory was fi tting after Melbourne had played outstanding all year and fi nished the home and away season on top of the ladder. Although the Mustangs fi nished on top, the win was still considered an upset. Ice had won three of the four clashes between the two teams this season, including the most recent one 5-1, but none of that mattered come fi nals day. Both teams had 30 shots on the goal each in the match but it was the Mustangs who regularly found the back of the net. Ice didn’t manage a successful shot until the fi nal third but by then the Mustangs were already up 5-0 and the damage was done.
