Managing VENUE System Restore Software Downloads

This document explains how to transfer the System Restore software included in your Avid account to your System Restore USB Drive, and how to use the System Restore software to perform a System Update or System Restore of the VENUE software on your Avid live system. See “Transferring VENUE System Restore Software” on page 2.

This document also explains how to create your own System Restore USB drive using a standard USB flash drive if the original System Restore USB Drive is lost or otherwise unavailable. See “Creating a System Restore USB Drive” on page 4.

Overview VENUE System Restore software is used to perform a System Update or a System Restore of the VENUE software on your system for troubleshooting and maintenance purposes. The latest version of the System Restore software should be kept with your system at all times in case you need to restore your system. The latest version of the VENUE System Restore software is included in your Avid account.

VENUE System Restore software is different from VENUE Updates. VENUE Updates are used to update the version of the currently installed VENUE software, and can be transferred to and installed from any USB drive with no special for- matting. System Restore software is used to restore your system software, which completely reinstalls the VENUE soft- ware on your system. Only use the VENUE System Restore USB Drive to store System Restore software and the installers for the pre-installed plug-ins.

Required Materials The following are required to transfer VENUE System Restore software to your System Restore USB Drive: • System Restore USB Drive • A computer running Mac OS X, or Windows 8, or Windows XP with an Internet connection and a USB 2.0 port

The following are required to create your own System Restore USB Drive: • USB 2.0 flash drive with a storage capacity of at least 1 GB • A computer running Windows 8, Windows 7 or Windows XP operating system with an Internet connection and a USB 2.0 port • HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool application, available at the following link: http://download.cnet.com/HP-USB-Disk-Storage-Format-Tool/3000-2094_4-10974082.html
