The goal of this dissertation is to investigate the relationships between trauma, memory, fantasy and narrative in a close reading/viewing of different forms of Jewish life-writing and documentary film by means of a scientifically informed approach to childhood trauma. Chapter 1 discusses the reception of Binjamin Wilkomirski’s Fragments (1994), which was hailed as a paradigmatic traumatic narrative written by a child survivor before it was discovered to be a fictional text based on the author’s invented Jewish life-story.

"TS" Telesync Vrlo čest "TELESYNC" Nasuprot popularnom vjerovanju, kvalitet kod TS video snimka ne mora da bude bolji od kvaliteta CAM snimka. Naziv Telesync ne označava bolji kvalitet VIDEO zapisa, nego bolji kvalitet AUDIO zapisa. Uglavnom je video snimak isti kao i CAM, a audio snimak bolji. Zbog toga se CAM veoma često brka sa TS. R5 "R5" Vrlo čest R5 Line je DVD verzija za region 5. Region 5 čine Istočna Evropa, (bivši SSSR), Indija, Afrika, Severna Koreja i Mongolija. Kvalitet R5 snimka se razlikuje od kvaliteta normalnog DVD-a po tome što je video snimak odličnog kvaliteta (kopiran sa DVD-a), a audio snimak je lošeg kvaliteta (kopiran sa Telecyne snimka, da bi se dobio zvuk originala, pošto je R5 DVD verzija obično prilagođena/sinhronizovana na jezik nekog od tih 5 regiona).

    Peepli Live and No One Killed Jessica 66 Peepli Live and No One Killed Jessica: Remediating the “Bollywoodization” of Indian TV News Sukhmani Khorana Lecturer University of Wollongong Wollongong, Australia [email protected] Introduction: Evolution of “Bollywoodization” in Indian TV news In the third edition of her pioneering book on the Indian media business, Vanita Kohli-Khandekar makes the following observation: There are two media segments that define the contour, body and tastes of the Indian market. Television is one of them, the other being film. Both have a mesmerising hold over Indian audiences―and even over investors and advertisers.1 This article begins with this note because of the increasingly central place occupied by television in the Indian media sphere and the uniquely Indian context of the mutual interdependence of the television and film industries. While television has appropriated Hollywood film genres since its inception,2 in India, popular film culture is increasingly drawing on the pre-eminence of satellite television. A grasp of these facets of the subcontinent’s television story is essential before examining how TV news has taken on discursive and practice-based elements of the nation’s popular film culture, Bollywood. This will be undertaken through a close textual analysis of two recent Bollywood films, Peepli Live (2010) and No One Killed Jessica (2011). Both feature television journalism as an important narrative catalyst, or a remediator for the socio-political issues faced by the protagonist(s). In doing this, the films themselves turn into a remediation device for the Bollywoodization of news on Peepli Live and No One Killed Jessica 67 Indian television.

    ABSTRACT Title of Document: MODERNIZATION AND VISUAL ECONOMY: FILM, PHOTOJOURNALISM, AND THE PUBLIC SPHERE IN BRAZIL AND ARGENTINA, 1955-1980 Paula Halperin, Doctor of Philosophy, 2010 Directed By: Professor Barbara Weinstein Department of History University of Maryland, College Park My dissertation explores the relationship among visual culture, nationalism, and modernization in Argentina and Brazil in a period of extreme political instability, marked by an alternation of weak civilian governments and dictatorships. I argue that motion pictures and photojournalism were constitutive elements of a modern public sphere that did not conform to the classic formulation advanced by Jürgen Habermas. Rather than treating the public sphere as progressively degraded by the mass media and cultural industries, I trace how, in postwar Argentina and Brazil, the increased production and circulation of mass media images contributed to active public debate and civic participation. With the progressive internationalization of entertainment markets that began in the 1950s in the modern cities of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and Buenos Aires there was a dramatic growth in the number of film spectators and production, movie theaters and critics, popular magazines and academic journals that focused on film. Through close analysis of images distributed widely in international media circuits I reconstruct and analyze Brazilian and Argentine postwar visual economies from a transnational perspective to understand the constitution of the public sphere and how modernization, Latin American identity, nationhood, and socio-cultural change and conflict were represented and debated in those media. Cinema and the visual after World War II became a worldwide locus of production and circulation of discourses about history, national identity, and social mores, and a space of contention and discussion of modernization.

I critically assess such claims through a close reading of the films of the Spanish „sex and horror‟ specialist Jess Franco. My textual and contextual analysis shows that Franco‟s films are shaped by inter-relationships between authorship, international genre codes and the economic and ideological conditions of exploitation cinema. Within these conditions, Franco‟s treatment of „aberrant‟ and gothic desiring subjectivities appears contradictory. Contestation and critique can, for example, be found in Franco‟s portrayal of emasculated male characters, and his female vampires may offer opportunities for resistant appropriation.

    Digital Movie Piracy; A Perspective on Downloading Behaviour through Social Cognitive Theory Ruud S. Jacobs Abstract The current article attempts to refine and specify a model based on other researchers' applications of the Social Cognitive Theory originally posited by Bandura to allow the behaviour and attitudes downloaders exhibit to be analysed and compared to the amount of movies they consume (measured as an monthly average estimate). The new model is then tested against data obtained from college students as well as from a technological lifestyle forum. After the revisions these analyses suggested were applied, the model explained nearly 23% of the variance in the number of movies downloaded. The most important factors in this model were, among others: the drives to see many different and new movies, the social environment and its perceived attitude toward the behaviour, and the degree to which downloading has embedded itself in the daily routine. Because the Dutch government and lobbyists are superficially unclear about the current legislature, the unique opportunity existed to study the impact of knowing about legislature on the behaviour. Other results indicate an unexpected openness to an alternative film-distribution method where both the producers and the consumers get an honest deal, presenting options to release the current political and social tension without prosecuting an increasing portion of the population.
