40 Days Week 5.Cdr PRAYER GUIDE 5TH WEEK WELCOME TO WITH PASTOR MENSA OTABIL very year, I have the privilege of leading ICGC churches and God’s people in Ghana and across the world to Eearnestly seek the face of God and trust Him to draw near to us, as we draw near to Him. This period of consecration, prayer and fasting has come to be known as “40 Days of Power”. Every year’s experience is unique, but one thing has been common to this solemn period each year. That is the level of commitment I see from individuals, families, churches and groups to devote time and effort to fully engage with the process. It is heart-warming to hear of the many testimonies that continually affirm the faithfulness of God and the surety of His word. From Thursday 25th June to Monday 3rd August 2020, we will embark on this year’s spiritual journey as we fast and pray for our nation, for global missions, for nations and their presidents across the world, and also for our personal needs, divine guidance and divine protection. This Prayer Guide affords us the opportunity to pray together in the same direction. Scripture affirms the benefit of this practice, that there is power in praying with agreement with others. Over the past few months the world has experienced very trying times characterized by uncertainty and disruptions at various levels. Within this period, I started a daily broadcast called Word to Go to bring strength and encouragement from God’s word to help us all weather the storms together. Over the period of 40 Days of Power, the prayer themes each day will be aligned with my Word to Go message. It is my prayer that listening to God’s word and praying along the same lines will bring us collective strength for the times in which we live. Each day’s experience will start at 5am with a call to worship. At 5:30am, I will bring you the Word to Go for the day. Corporate prayers begin from right afterwards at 5:35am and continue for the whole day. Various pastors will continually be supporting you to pray online till the closing declaration from 5.55pm to 6.00pm. When we fast, we ought to do it wisely and healthily to fully reap the spiritual benefits it provides. You will find included in this guide, some helpful tips on effective fasting. Endeavour to read and apply them. Join me on this exciting spiritual journey with God. Faithfully commit to this period of consecration and as you do, you will experience the Lord in a new and special way. May He hear and answer our prayers as we fast and pray. Shalom! 1 HELPFUL HINTS FOR FASTING The practice of regular fasting is a normal Christian behaviour taught by Jesus. In Matthew 6:16–18, Jesus provided guidelines for fasting. Fasting was also practiced by the early church as evidenced in Acts 13:2. It has been the regular discipline of believers throughout church history. Fasting has physical as well as spiritual benefits. It must be embarked on with spiritual commitment and wisdom. Everything should be done to the glory of God. Do's Of Fasting 1. Prepare your body for the fast; cut back on food portions and eat smaller meals a few days prior to the fast. 2. Prevent constipation during and after the fast by eating fresh fruit and raw vegetables, fruit or vegetable juices, oatmeal, etc. 3. Drink lots of water when fasting. 4. Seek medical advice before the fast if you have any existing health conditions. 5. You can fast in many different ways. For example, a Daniel fast is one in which you consume only vegetables and water throughout. Pray and ask God what He will give you faith for the duration of the fast. 6. Have a clear target as your prayer focus. Without a vision or clear goal, the people perish. Write down your vision for the fast so you can run with it (Habakkuk 2:2). 7. Take time to pray and read the word. This may seem obvious, but busyness and distractions can keep you from daily devotions. Expect to hear God's voice in the word, dreams, visions, and revelations. Daniel prepared himself to receive revelation through fasting (Daniel 10:1–2). 8. Break your fast gradually. At this point you will need to exercise watchful self- control. Break your fast on a meal that is light and easy to digest (i.e., broth, a shredded apple, watermelon, or steamed vegetables). 9. Prepare for opposition. Satan tempted Jesus on the fast, and we must expect the same. Discouragement may come but take your stand on the victory of Christ. Don'ts Of Fasting 1. Avoid high-fat and sugary foods before the fast. 2. Abstain from strong stimulants such as caffeinated and sugary drinks during a fast, including the artificial sweeteners found in diet drinks. 3. It is important after a fast to control your cravings and avoid overeating and nullifying the gains made during the fast. I am excited that you are joining me on this fast. Commit to staying the course and fasting from the beginning to the end. I believe that God's glory will envelope our nation in a supernatural way as we wait upon the Lord. 2 HAVE FAITH IN JESUS looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. WITH PASTOR MENSA OTABIL (Hebrews 12:2) DAY 26 - JULY 20 (5am - 11am) Morning Reflection Hebrews 12:1-2 Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Personal 1. In the name of Jesus, command every hindrance to God's blessings in your life to bow; declare victory in all circumstances. 2. Ask the Lord to strengthen your faith to trust Him for the manifestation of His promises. 3. Thank God for His power at work in your life; thank Him for the presence and the work of the Holy Spirit. Guidance 4. Pray that the word of God will always be a light unto your feet and a lamp to your path; pray that God's word will guide your steps even in unknown territories. 5. Pray that in these 40 days of Power, your faith will not waver on God's promises as you trust Him one day at a time. 6. Ask the Holy Spirit to lead members of your family, as we look up to Jesus in these 40 days of Power. Protection 7. By faith, cancel every plan against your career, finances, education and business; declare victory over every work of the enemy. 8. Agree with God's word, that no weapon formed against you shall proper and declare the blood of Jesus to be a covering of protection for your household and all your pursuits. Declaration Heavenly Father, I thank you for the gift of your Son Jesus Christ, the Author and Finisher of my faith. I affirm that my trust and focus is on Him and what He has accomplished for me through the cross. I declare that as I look up to Jesus and trust in His word, I am set apart for great accomplishments and no weapon formed against me shall proper in Jesus' name. Amen. 3 (11am - 5pm) Global Missions 9. Ask the Lord Jesus to build His church all over the world; declare that the gates of hell will not prevail against the body of Christ. 10. Pray that the church will continue to be the light of the world, the salt of the earth and the city on the hill; declare that the church will provide leadership, vision and influence to the world. 11. Intercede for the unreached communities who have not heard the gospel; pray that the power of the gospel will bring light and redemption to the sinner. Nation Building 12. Ask God to raise for Himself in every nation, leadership of righteousness, vision, integrity and love for the people. 13. Intercede for governance structures and political systems in the nations of the world; pray for the Executive, Legislature and Judiciary that in their policies, God's purpose will overrule every personal agenda. 14. Pray for a supernatural intervention for the global economy; declare that economic policies will result in massive recovery and growth across the world. Nations and Presidents 15. Ask God to touch the hearts of world leaders and use them as influencers of righteousness in the nations of the world. 16. Intercede for the Presidents, Prime Ministers and people in authority in the following countries; ask God to guide their choices, decisions and actions into His perfect will. a. PACIFIC ISLANDS FORUM SECRETARIAT KAINAKI II TO COP 26 – PACIFIC ISLANDS FORUM HIGH-LEVEL ROUNDTABLE ON URGENT CLIMATE CHANGE ACTION Friday 11 December 2020 Virtual FORUM CHAIR’S SUMMARY OF OUTCOMES On the eve of the five-year anniversary of the Paris Agreement, Pacific Islands Forum Leaders met with their 18 international Forum Dialogue Partners to emphasise the urgency of more ambitious action to combat the climate change crisis facing Pacific Island nations; to drive action and ambition on the Paris Agreement and the related ten calls of the Kainaki II Declaration1; and to call for COVID-19 financing for recovery to advance the goals of the Paris Agreement. A list of Forum Member and Forum Dialogue Partner participants is at Annex A. Background 2. Five years ago, on 12th December 2015, Pacific leaders joined with global leaders to adopt the Paris Agreement on climate change. It was a watershed moment for multilateralism and for protecting all people and the planet. It charted a new course for global climate change action; one in which world leaders committed to raise the ambition on climate change, with enhanced support for developing countries to adapt to its effects. Critically, for the Blue Pacific, the Paris Agreement also delivered an agreement by Parties to hold the increase in global average temperature to well below 2 ⁰C above pre-industrial levels and pursue efforts to limit the temperature increase to 1.5 ⁰C above pre-industrial levels, recognising that this would significantly reduce the risks and impacts of climate change. 3. Five years on, we must all ask ourselves: are we keeping our commitments? Are we raising our ambitions? Are we making the necessary behavioural changes to protect our planet for our children, and our generations to come? 4.

  • Letter to the Government of Nauru on Internet Blocking and Free Expression
His Excellency President Baron Waqa Government of Nauru cc: Hon. David Adeang, Minister for Justice Hon. Lionel Aingimea, Secretary Her Excellency Marlene Moses, Permanent Representative to the United Nations Letter to the government of Nauru on internet blocking and free expression 26 May 2015 We, the undersigned, are members of free expression and human rights organizations based in the Pacific region and around the globe. We are writing in response to the government of Nauru’s decision to block certain services on the internet and to amend the criminal code to impose new penalties on expression. On May 13, President Baron Waqa explained that the government had imposed a permanent block on sites that distribute "explicit, obscene and pornographic contents", and issued a temporary block on "other sites", including Facebook, in order to protect against abuse by malicious users. [1] The government ordered Digicel and other internet service providers on April 30 to impose the block. However, the government did not state when the temporary block would end, and the government did not claim to be responding to any immediate threats to public safety or public order. Internet blocking and filtering is a form of censorship. Indeed, earlier this month, UN and global human rights experts reiterated that shutting down entire parts of communications systems, including the filtering of content on the internet to silence certain perspectives or voices, can never be justified under international human rights law. [2], [3] Such restrictions affect
