Pace, Sr., Principal SPECIAL GUESTS Mr. Cory Spiller PRESENTATION OF SCHOLARSHIPS AND AWARDS FACULTY BOWL AWARD The Faculty Bowl is that award which is presented to the senior who, in the opinion of the faculty, has contributed the most to Colonia High School. The person who receives this honor must be an individual who has demonstrated unselfish service to the school and who has maintained a good academic record. This individual must have demonstrated those personal qualities which make one an exemplary school citizen. The recipient of this award of this award will be announced at graduation. 3 A List of Awards and Presentations 1. *THE MAYOR JOHN E. MCCORMAC ACCOUNTING SCHOLARSHIP is presented to a student who is majoring in accounting. Presenter: Mayor John E. McCormac Recipient: 2. *THE MAYOR JOHN E. MCCORMAC COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD is presented to a senior who has given meritorious service to the community. Presenter: Mayor John E. McCormac Recipient: 3. COLONIA CORNER NEWSPAPER AWARD The recipient of this award demonstrates compassion towards others who are going through a difficult time in their life, and takes action to make this situation a little bit easier to get through. Presenter: Mayor John E. McCormac Recipient: 4. THE MICHAEL J. PRONGAY MEMORIAL ATHLETIC AWARD Michael J Prongay was a founder and integrally involved with the Colonia Pop Warner program. Through the Michael J Prongay Memorial Scholarship it is our intent to provide scholarships to graduating male and female athletes who will be furthering their education. Each student athlete has been a participant on a varsity athletic team during their time at Colonia High School. Presenter: Ms. Cheryl Galvin, Director of Counseling Recipient: 5. THE PATRICIA PRONGAY CHAMBERLAIN CHEERLEADING AWARD Patti was co-captain of the Cheerleading team while attending CHS. This award will be presented to a graduating cheerleader recognized for high energy, positive school and team spirit, academically strong and socially minded. These qualities exemplify our sister. THE INDEPENDENT CLUB OF COLONIA SCHOLARSHIP AWARD The Independent Club of Colonia is a non-profit organization serving the Woodbridge Township community since 1949. Our mission is to encourage positive, personal and professional growth while developing leaders and role models within the community. Presenter: Ms. Cheryl Galvin, Director of Counseling Recipient: 7. THE SANDRA F. SCHMIDTKE SCHOLARSHIP is presented to a deserving senior pursuing further education. A plaque recognizing the recipient is on display in the front lobby. Presenter: Ms. Cheryl Galvin, Director of Counseling Recipient: 8. THE JOSEPH H. SARNA, JR. MEMORIAL AWARD is presented to senior students who best exemplifies the qualities possessed by Joseph H. Sarna, Jr. Among those were a true concern and interest in his fellow man, a caring attitude, warmth, honesty, loyalty, kindness and an optimistic outlook on life. A plaque recognizing the recipients of this award is on display in the front lobby. Presenter: Ms. Cheryl Galvin, Director of Counseling Recipient: 4 9. *THE BENJAMIN S. CHMIEL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP Benjamin S. Chmiel was an avid sports fan in our township for over forty years. He took great pride in watching his family members coach and play. This award is presented annually to a Colonia athlete who, in addition to a dedication to Colonia High School’s activities, has a strong commitment to family and a good academic record. THE CAROL ANN KIYAK MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP is presented to a senior student who shows concern for humanity and is passionately involved with the school community. A plaque recognizing the recipient of this award is on display in the front lobby. Presenter: Ms. Cheryl Galvin, Director of Counseling Recipient: 11. *THE CORNELIUS POST MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP is presented to a senior who best exemplifies the qualities of Mr. Cornelius Post including a strong work ethic, a sense of humor, and dedication and loyalty to Colonia High School. Presenter: Ms. Cheryl Galvin, Director of Counseling Recipient: 12. THE WOODBRIDGE TOWNSHIP ATHLETIC ALUMNI ASSOCIATION/HALL OF FAME AWARDS are presented to athletes who represent their sport in both performance and leadership. The recipients demonstrate a competitive spirit, great enthusiasm, a sense of fair play, they exhibit good sportsmanship and take pride in their activities. Presenter: Ms. Cheryl Galvin, Director of Counseling Recipient: 13. *THE WOODBRIDGE TOWNSHIP RETIRED EDUCATORS AWARD is presented by the Woodbridge Township Retired Educators to a student who ranks in the top half of the graduating class, whose career goal is to become a teacher, and is active in clubs and organizations. Presenter: Ms. Cheryl Galvin, Director of Counseling Recipient: 14. *THE DR. NANCY SPILLER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP is presented to a graduating senior who has shown a passion for the study of social studies. This student displays a love of learning and a caring spirit. Presenter: Ms. Cheryl Galvin, Director of Counseling Recipient: 15. THE COLONIA VOLUNTEER CHEMICAL HOOK & LADDER FIRE COMPANY AWARDS will be presented in memory of Lamont Swain, to graduating seniors of Colonia High School who will continue their education at an accredited institution and who have demonstrated service to the community. THE JOSEPH LEWIS AND ALVIN WILLIAMS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS The Woodbridge Policeman's Benevolent Association - Local #38 is presenting two awards to students who have attained a satisfactory rank in class and who plan on furthering their education Presenter: Ms. Cheryl Galvin, Director of Counseling Recipient: 5 17. THE CYNTHIA AYALA MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP is presented in memory of 2011 Colonia High School graduate, Cynthia Ayala. Cynthia was a member of the cross country, winter track and softball teams, and will always be remembered for her infectious smile and laugh. Cynthia’s positive attitude was contagious, and her presence could brighten anyone’s day. This award will be presented to a senior female athlete who best exemplifies Cynthia’s cheerfulness and enthusiasm that inspired those around her. Presenter: Ms. Cheryl Galvin, Director of Counseling Recipient: 18. *THE ATHENA M. CHAGARIS AWARD is presented to a student who has displayed a sincere interest in the social studies courses, plans on attending a four year college and who, in the opinion of the Scholarship Committee, is a worthy recipient. Presenter: Ms. Cheryl Galvin, Director of Counseling Recipient: 19. *THE CAPTAIN JOSEPH M. FURDA MEMORIAL AWARD is presented in commemoration of Captain Joseph M. Furda, Colonia High School Class of 1968, U. S. Air Force Academy Class of 1972. Captain Furda was a pilot who gave his life in service to his country. This award is given to a student who not only shows a sincere interest in history but also an insight into historical aspects that have molded our country. A plaque recognizing the recipient of this award is on display in the front lobby. Presenter: Ms. Cheryl Galvin, Director of Counseling Recipient: 20. *THE GEORGE BRAND "G" SCHOLARSHIP AWARD is presented to a male senior, who exemplifies some of George’s exceptional qualities of scholastic achievement, high intellect, kindness, loyalty, generosity, hilarious sense of humor, and commitment to mankind. The recipient is a courageous soul who carries The Light forward in a way that cannot be ignored. Most of all, the winner of the award will be remembered as having made their years at Colonia High School the best years of their lives. THE CHS COUNSELING DEPARTMENT AWARD is presented to a senior who has shown that a person's character is not measured by their success but by their ability to overcome obstacles. He or she has proven that no matter what life throws at them, they will persevere. This person has shown substantial academic and personal
