Traditional Sports and Games: A New Opportunity for Personalized Access to Cultural Heritage Mariate Linaza1, Kieran Moran2;3, and Noel E. O'Connor3? 1 Dept. of eTourism and Heritage, Fundaci´onCentro de Tecnologas de Interacci´on Visual y Comunicaciones { Vicomtech-IK4, Spain 2 Applied Sports Performance Research Group, School of Health and Human Performance, Dublin City University, Ireland. 3 CLARITY: Centre for Sensor Web Technologies, Dublin City University, Ireland Abstract. Sport is the most universal of cultural pursuits { it is acces- sible and of interest to all. Traditional Sports and Games (TSG) are as diverse as our cultures. TSG organisations work tirelessly to promote par- ticipation in their sports, but also act as custodians of custom, language and history. However, trends in globalisation have led to a convergence of the majority of spectator interest to just a few mainstream sports with culturally homogonous identities. In this position paper, we present the case for preservation of TSG using both existing state of the art 3D digitisation technology but also highlight the need to develop low-cost personalisable solutions. This dual approach would potentially allow the styles of play of elite sportspersons (national heroes) to be captured with precision for posterity, and amateur sportspersons (local heroes) to be captured with inexpensive setups to ensure personalized accessible solu- tions. Keywords: Intangible cultural heritage, motion capture, 3D digitisa- tion 1 Introduction The history of sport can be traced back to the existence of human civilisation itself. It is a key part of cultural identity, and a mechanism for the protection and promotion of cultural diversity.

Welcome Booklet Àrea de Comunicació i Relacions Institucionals Agenda Hello! Welcoming words Catalonia, a sporting nation The hosting cities Main sporting facilities When is going to happen? Match Schedule and Planning Moving around! Maps Keep in touch! Social Networks International Referees National Teams Youth Tournament Introducing Catalan Sponsors Hello! Welcoming Words Bernard Barral (FIBat President) During this year 2017, Ivory Coast and Benin have joined FIBaT, thus rising up the number of affiliated nations to 22. The International tamburello is close to be developed in every continent. Besides, the number of clubs wanting to participate in the European Cups is also rising. The 2nd World Championship have been organized by Catalonia, after Italy hosted the last edition back in 2013. Up to twelve countries will take part in this tournament, aiming to take over the trophies of World Champions won by Italy, both in men and women. This sporting event will be a great competition and celebration of tamburello, as our Catalan friends know how to achieve it. The political situation will not disturb the desire of our athletes to give the best version of themselves on the playing court. I wish everyone good luck and hope that the matches would be fair and of the highest level. I would like to thank the cities of Vilanova and Vilafranca, Catalan tamburello clubs, the Catalan Federation and the Consell Català de l’Esport. Welcome to Catalonia, I am looking forward to see you all at the Awards Ceremony that will be celebrated Sunday evening and will reveal who will win the World Championship.
