Nowhere else on the planet is quite like Venice. Meet your local expert guide in the city center for the first portion of the tour exploring the city on foot. As you weave your way around the twisting back streets, cobbled courtyards and small arched bridges, your expert guide will regale you with tales from Venice’s colorful past. You’ll discover why the city was built on a lagoon, how it came to be an important center of trade and what events conspired to end its domination over much of the Mediterranean. You’ll walk by Marco Polo’s house and hear about how the Venetian merchant set off to sea one day and returned with tales of faraway eastern lands that in those days, few had ever seen. MURANO GLASSBLOWING & BURANO LACE-MAKING TOUR (5h) REGULAR GROUP TOUR

Escape the crowds and chaos of Venice and catch a glimpse of what the city used to be – an island of artisans world-famous for their craft, where traditional skills have been passed down from generation to generation for centuries. Join us on a half-day trip to these timeless islands, so close yet worlds away from crowded Piazza San Marco. After meeting in a central Venice location we’ll start our tour with a short and comfortable boat ride to beautifulMurano,a small island know the world over for its glass. Once Murano glassblowers were the only people in Europe who could create mirrors and their skills were so valued that they were banned from leaving the city of Venice under threat of execution. Many things have changed since then, but the craft has stayed the same, as you’ll understand after our first stop – a glassblower’s workshop. Watch a craftsman in action as he goes about his daily business and listen to a description of the process in English while he works – what gives the glass its colour? How does silica sand become glass? Which is the most difficult part of this job? This is a real, workday studio and our experience here will be authentic. Then it’s back on the boat to our next stop, Burano. The tiny island of Burano is famous for two reasons. The first is for its houses. Huddled tightly together along streets and canals, each one is painted a different colour, with laundry strung up across the narrow streets. Legend has it that fishermen started this trend, painting their houses in bright shades so that they could see home from a distance. Burano’s major claim to fame however, is its centuries old tradition of lacemaking. Your guide will take you through the streets of Burano to a small building where women still sit working feverishly, stitching lace like their mothers and grandmothers before them. Watch their painstaking work, listen to a full commentary on what, in the age of sewing machines, has become a dying art, and then take the time to explore the fascinating lace samples on display.

The Wine Tour Road of the Doges is a 4-hour day trip, that includes wine tasting with appetizers while visiting an historical winery and it's vineyard. As we leave Venice, we make our way to the South-East of the Veneto region, near Treviso, to an historical winery. The vineyards we visit are almost like beautiful gardens immersed in a rural landscape. Surrounded by 40 hectares of vineyards this area is perfect for the production of high quality wine, thanks to the characteristics of the terrain which is very fertile. In actual fact the love of wine and viticulture date back at least to the Roman ages. In the first century a.d.Plinio used to describe this area as a wide vineyard and wrote of the ships which sailed from the Adriatic ports to Rome, full of wine amphoras. Centuries later, the Republic of Venice imported the 'noble drink', object of trade exchanges, all over its dominion. This family-run vineyard have a history of over 50 years. 'Wines come from tough soil, from men who have the talent of listening to nature and a heart filled with long experience and great passion'. The family have a commitment to be good ambassadors of the territory and its production of Italian wine.
