Each question will be worth 10 points. Each question should be presented to the contestant in a format that allows room to complete their written computations on the same paper as the question is stated. In grading the question, the evaluator will allow for partial credit (5 points max) if the answer is wrong but the contestant has adequately shown and labeled their work. Student directions: For each problem place your answer on the line provided after each question. Calculators are allowed. Be sure to write and label all computations in the space provided. Up to 5 points of partial credit will be given if the answer on the blank is wrong but the contestant has adequately shown and labeled their work. Note: The computations in parenthesis are the answers. Example A: You want to have a two-week supply of dog food. Your dog eats 15 lbs. of dog food per day. What are the minimum pounds of dog food you need to buy to meet these requirements? Answer _______________________ (10 points) (14 x 1.5 = 21) Show and label your work: Page 5 of 10 http://www.uwrf.edu/AGED/AgriculturalTechnologyContest.cfm 2011 Agricultural Technology Contest University of Wisconsin - River Falls Example B: Feline delight costs $3.00 for an eight-ounce can. PRE- AND POST-SPAWNING BEHAVIOR IN THE BLUE GOURAMI, TRICHOGASTER TRICHOPTERUS (PALLAS), AND THE PARADISE FISH, MACROPODUS OPERCULARIS (LINNAEUS) By HOWARD RUSSELL HOPKINS // I Bachelor of Science The Pennsylvania State University University Park, Pennsylvania 1959 Master of Science The Pennsylvania State University University Park, Pennsylvania 1962 Submitted to the Faculty of the Graduate College of the Oklahoma State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the Degree of DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY July, 1971 PRE- AND POST-SPAWNING BEHAVIOR GOURAMI, TRICHOGASTER TRICHOPTERUS ... (PALLAS), AND THE PARADISE FISH, MACROPODUS OPERCULARIS (LINNAEUS) Thesis Approved: Q LL . 803908 PREFACE The objectives of the present investigation are to: (1) Describe the motor patterns for seven presumably functional classes of behavior in Trichogaster trichopterus and Macropodus opercularis. (2) Determine the length of reproductive cycles and the characteristic diel rhythinicity of spawning activities. (J) Evaluate the influence of precipitation, barometric pressure, and water temperature on the presence of a nest and the onset of spawning. (~) Determine if activity cycles exist by measuring fluctuations in daily activity. (5) Compare the changes in the composition of behavior during the spawning cycle. Dr. Rudolph J. Miller served as major adviser and was extremely helpful during all phases of the study. Drs. Roy w. Jones, Troy Dorris, L. Herbert Bruneau, and Larry T. Brown served on the advisory committee and edited the manuscript. Donald E. Maritt suggested the method for computer analysis of the data. James Butler was instrumental in writing the computer programs and was helpful in expediting the work in the Computer Science Department. Dr. Dale D. • An STR Forensic Typing System for Genetic Individualization of Domestic Cat (Felis Catus) Samples∗
JForensicSci,Sept. 2005, Vol. 50, No. 5 Paper ID JFS2004317 Available online at: www.astm.org Marilyn A. Menotti-Raymond,1 Ph.D.; Victor A. David,1 M.S.; Leslie L. Wachter,2 B.S.; John M. Butler,3 Ph.D.; and Stephen J. O’Brien,1 Ph.D. An STR Forensic Typing System for Genetic Individualization of Domestic Cat (Felis catus) ∗ Samples ABSTRACT: A forensic genotyping panel of 11 tetranucleotide STR loci from the domestic cat was characterized and evaluated for genetic in- dividualization of cat tissues. We first examined 49 candidate STR loci and their frequency assessment in domestic cat populations. The STR loci (3–4 base pair repeat motifs), mapped in the cat genome relative to 579 coding loci and 255 STR loci, are well distributed across the 18 feline autosomes. All loci exhibit Mendelian inheritance in a multi-generation pedigree. Eleven loci that were unlinked and were highly heterozygous in cat breeds were selected for a forensic panel. Heterozygosity values obtained for the independent loci, ranged from 0.60–0.82, while the average cat breed heterozygosity obtained for the 11 locus panel was 0.71 (range of 0.57–0.83). A small sample set of outbred domestic cats displayed a heterozygosity of 0.86 for the 11 locus panel. The power of discrimination of the panel is moderate to high in the cat breeds examined, with an average Pm of 3.7E-06. The panel shows good potential for genetic individualization within outbred domestic cats with a Pm of 5.31E-08. A multiplex protocol, designed for the co-amplification of the 11 loci and a gender-identifying locus, is species specific and robust, generating a product profile with as little as 0.125 nanograms of genomic DNA.
