This Week’s Tithe: Peter’s Pence

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:

Our diocese will take up the Peter’s Pence Collection on the weekend of June 26-27, 2021. The Peter’s Pence Collection allows participants to join the Holy Father’s efforts to show mercy to all in two ways: you support the ongoing activities of the , and you contribute to the charitable works of the Holy Father on behalf of those who are most in need. Our Catholic tradition calls us to provide for the material needs of the Church, and the Peter’s Pence Collection is one of the opportunities we have to do so. When you answer the call, you build up the Church so that it will continue to minister to all for generations to come.

In this spirit of mercy, helped the people of Iran when they suffered death and catastrophic damage from floods in March and April 2019. More than 10 million people suffered property damage, and the city of Ahwaz and numerous villages were evacuated. Two million people required immediate assistance. Pope Francis donated €100,000 to direct relief efforts coordinated by the Iranian Red Crescent Society, in which Caritas Iran also participated.

Please prayerfully consider supporting this year’s collection as an act of mercy and charity. Join our brothers and sisters in faith from around the globe to help Pope Francis in his ministry to the Universal Church and in reaching out to the most marginalized in our Offertory June 13, 2021: world. The Nine Months of the Child Jesus in the Womb of Mary

Save a Baby through Spiritual Adoption! It has been three months since the Annunciation on March 25 marking the incarnation, when Jesus was conceived and the Son of God became the son of the Virgin. God became one of us at His Conception. Follow along with our parish family in the development of Jesus in the womb of Mother Mary.

The Second Month: May 25-June 25 Faith-filled Joseph, believing the revelation that he is to be the protector of the long- awaited Messiah, bravely stands by Mary’s side, offering his strength and sense of mission as her body begins to accommodate the growing child within her. How many fathers have abandoned the mothers of their children? Indeed, how many fathers today never know of their child's existence or of its terrible end? The end of the first trimester is at about week 12: Babies are denied life who can at this stage hear, open and close their lips, and hiccup.

At three inches, the unborn child now begins to kick, curl and fan toes, make a fist, and practice breathing. The baby now sleeps and awakens. Fingernails and toenails form, and he already has his own unique set of fingerprints. Sensitive to touch, he will tightly grasp an object placed in the palm of his hand. He breathes amniotic fluid to help develop and strengthen the respiratory system, but he gets the oxygen he needs through the umbilical cord. Veins and organs are clearly visible through the skin. If the baby were a girl, at 13 weeks her ovaries contain more than 2 million eggs. The baby can also squint and close his eyelids to protect the developing eyes. They will not open again until week 28. He can swallow and move his tongue. In fact, at week 9 – he can suck his thumb.

Pray for all fathers this month that they may use the "Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, awesome power of life-giving to be a true protector of their I love you very much. children.

Please spare the life of Say the Spiritual Adoption daily prayer up until the baby’s “birth” at Christmas or for a period of one year. During your earthly life this spiritually adopted child of yours will be known only to God. But in the world to come, it is -Archbishop Fulton Sheen hoped that you will meet the child whose life was spared by your prayers and spend eternal happiness with them. Think of the tremendous number of babies who would be saved if every prolife man, woman and child would spiritually adopt an unborn baby! Around the Diocese
