S TEWARDSHIP This Week’s Tithe: Peter’s Pence Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ: Our diocese will take up the Peter’s Pence Collection on the weekend of June 26-27, 2021. The Peter’s Pence Collection allows participants to join the Holy Father’s efforts to show mercy to all in two ways: you support the ongoing activities of the Holy See, and you contribute to the charitable works of the Holy Father on behalf of those who are most in need. Our Catholic tradition calls us to provide for the material needs of the Church, and the Peter’s Pence Collection is one of the opportunities we have to do so. When you answer the call, you build up the Church so that it will continue to minister to all for generations to come. In this spirit of mercy, Pope Francis helped the people of Iran when they suffered death and catastrophic damage from floods in March and April 2019. More than 10 million people suffered property damage, and the city of Ahwaz and numerous villages were evacuated. Two million people required immediate assistance. Pope Francis donated €100,000 to direct relief efforts coordinated by the Iranian Red Crescent Society, in which Caritas Iran also participated. Please prayerfully consider supporting this year’s collection as an act of mercy and charity. Join our brothers and sisters in faith from around the globe to help Pope Francis in his ministry to the Universal Church and in reaching out to the most marginalized in our Offertory June 13, 2021: world. • July 2015 in the Last Issue, We Commemorated Renewal Ministries' 35Th Anniversary
RENEWAL MINISTRIES Proclaiming Jesus through Catholic Renewal and Evangelization Faithful Friends, A letter from Ralph Martin, July 2015 In the last issue, we commemorated Renewal Ministries' 35th anniversary. I hope you were inspired by it. We were. We fi nd it absolutely amazing all that the Lord has done through the “yeses” of so many people over the last 35 years. Thank you for your part in it all. We celebrated the anniversary at the annual Renewal Ministries Gathering. For the fi rst time, we reached the 300-person capacity and had to close registration two weeks before it happened! We will include highlights in an upcoming issue. Recently, Bishop Lesanu Christos Matheos Semahun from Ethiopia came to visit us. He was just named the Bishop of a new diocese which happens to be where the Orthodox Church claims to have custody of the Ark of the Covenant. (It’s a long story and hard to verify since no one is allowed to see the Ark except its Guardian for Life.) You remember the Queen of Sheba who visited Solomon and marveled at his wisdom? And then the Ethiopian eunuch in the Acts of the Apostles who was baptized by the Deacon Philip? They’re all part of a long history of a very ancient Christian Church in Ethiopia. Lloyd and Nancy Greenhaw, along with Fr. Scott McCaig, CC, Moderator of the Companions of the Cross — and a member of our Canadian Board — just returned from a very fruitful trip to Bishop Semahun’s diocese (see p. 6). Also part of the mission team were Joseph and Serah Alumansi from Uganda.

That He’s not something to learn about—a proposition to consider or choose to believe or believe in—but someONE to come to know and to relate to day by day. The Gospel’s not a fantasy from a book of tale or teaching from long ago, but a truth—the Truth—which is of life & death importance, as relevant today as 2,000 yrs ago. How was I certain? I saw it in my Mom. Prayer wasn’t just something you did Sundays at church, but rather part of everyday, every situation, because God was and IS with us always. I learned that faith is not just “spiritual speculation” but a flesh & blood matter. Far too often, far too many of us live as though we imagined God–or the gods and/or goddesses, or what- ever—lived in some distant realm, unconcerned about us (if they’re there at all); and, whether or not we really believe, yet we occasionally do things to propitiate them (i.e.
