PRESIDENT’S REPORT To our Junior Rep Players, Parents and Supporters, Congratulations to all our 2016-17 PJCA representative teams on your efforts this summer during the competition season and country carnivals. From our U10 teams through to the U16’s and our Mollie Dive girls team you should all be proud of the pride and spirit you have displayed each time you donned the ‘baggy black’ to represent Penrith. It is always very affirming to receive regular complimentary feedback from other associations, umpires, coaches and parents regarding the spirit and sportsmanship always on display by our rep players. Congratulations to our teams that achieved silverware success this season: • U10 White President Cup who won a tightly contest final against our U10 Black team. • U15 Carnival Team on winning the Walter Taylor Shield in Tamworth Well done to all our teams on their performances, collectively, this season has again proved to be more successful than others – great signs for future success! Congratulations on some very notable individual success: • U14 DCA player Jordan Watson on scoring 3 hundreds (102*, 102*, 101*) in the season. • U13 Mollie Dive player Claire Moore on her run scoring feats (including 101*) which resulted in her being awarded the DCA Mollie Dive Batter & Player of the Year. Our U16 DCA and President’s Cup teams have worn their PJCA baggy black for the final time. To Damon Myburgh-Sisam and Harrison McMillan (captain of each team) and their teams of young men, thank you for your contributions to junior representative cricket in Penrith. I hope you look back on these years with fond memories and great friendships. We look forward to following your cricket journeys in the years to come. To all our volunteer rep coaches/managers, thank you so much for your generous time and input to ensure our teams can perform at their best each week. Thank you also to the parents, grandparents and siblings that supported our players and teams. Our vision of strengthening ties with Penrith Grade Cricket Club continues to grow. Our gratitude and thanks to Jake Wholohan and Andrew Hazard (U10), Jarrod Lees (U14) and Dale Turner (U16) for your time and expertise in working with our teams this season. Your influence and guidance has been first class and hugely beneficial to our players.

Page 8 A very committed team work hard behind the scenes to ensure a smooth rep program. To Brendan Bayliss (Rep Coordinator), David Williams (Girls Rep Coordinator), Joanne Agius (Sponsorship), Mick Wilson (Grounds & Equipment), Michelle Pollard (Registrar), Darren McMillan (Committee) thank you on behalf of the PJCA, players and parents for your time, input and drive towards providing a positive rep program each season. To all our players … just like our own Patty Cummins … continue to dream of wearing the ‘baggy green’, but for now … cherish the privilege of wearing the ‘baggy black’ and most importantly, be grateful for every opportunity that this great game presents for you. Geoff Sullivan President

REPRESENTATIVE COORDINATOR’S REPORT Season 2016/17 was a season of change in the PJCA Representative Cricket program. I took over as the Coordinator after Darren McMillan stepped down after 3 years, and Michelle Pollard took over as the Registrar after Narelle Smith stepped down as the Secretary and Registrar after 10 years of service. This was indeed a daunting task as both Darren and Narelle have been part of the Committee team running this show since both Michelle and I have been involved. On behalf of the Committee, players and parents can I thank both Darren and Narelle for their many hours spent organising and managing the many tasks associated with their roles. Without their dedication we would not have been able to manage and have the great representative program that we have today. The 2016/17 Representative season saw the PJCA represented in 14 competitions in the NSWDCA, Mollie Dive and IDCA competitions, with 15 teams and 180 plus players involved in the program. All age groups saw a number of opportunities provided to players to represent the PJCA and wear the baggy black for the first time which is always exciting and a sign of the strength of our local junior competition. This season also saw change to the U10 program, with the squad of 24 players broken into two teams of 12 players and entered into the Presidents Cup competition, as Penrith White and Penrith Black. The driving force behind this decision was to better prepare our U10 squad to combat the rigors and intense competition that the DCA and IDCA teams face in the U11 age group. Another consideration was the feedback provided by the players and parents wanting to be part of a competition. Therefore the 2016/17 Committee felt that the IDCA Presidents Cup competition would provide a perfect balance, with the players coming together for training as a squad on a Friday, and playing in a competition on a Sunday. This change was considered to be a resounding success with our U10’s finishing 1st and 2nd in the competition rounds and playing off for first place, with Penrith White winning the final in a very hard fought and competitive match. The DCA competition saw our U14’s reach the final, U12’s reach the semi-final and U16’s reach the quarter finals. The U16’s IDCA also reached the play off for 1st place this season, going down also in a hard fought final. Our carnival results were also outstanding this season with the U12’s reaching the semi-finals in Lismore, U13’s going through Orange undefeated, U14’s reaching the semi-final in Newcastle and U15’s going through undefeated at the Armidale carnival, successfully defending our title for a second straight season. The U11’s fought hard at Newcastle and will be much better for the experience in season 2017/18. Well done to all teams - you represented Penrith Junior Cricket very well and on behalf of the Committee I thank you. To the hardworking Committee - Geoff Sullivan (Selection Coordinator), Jo Agius (Sponsorship Coordinator), Michelle Pollard (Registrar), Dave Williams (Girls Coordinator), Mick Wilson (Grounds and Equipment Coordinator) and Darren McMillan (Committee Member) - thank you for your efforts and support throughout this season. To the coaches and managers, on behalf of the Committee thank you for

Page 9 the time and effort you have devoted to the players this season, without you we would not have a representative program. Brendan Bayliss Representative Coordinator

GIRLS DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR’S REPORT At PJCA, we have this year taken our female cricket options and development to a new level.... and it’s been a massive year. On the back of the success of the WBBL, we have had the opportunity of growing all levels of girls cricket from the representative program to the introduction of our new Thunder Girls Cricket League (TGCL), an all-girl U13 competition. On the TGCL front, we introduced this comp with a Spring season that consisted of four sides and we have grown this to six sides for our Summer competition. And whilst there are a small proportion of girls that are playing in both these competitions as well as out mainstream Saturday Morning comps, the majority of girls involved are new to our game... and more importantly would never have played cricket if it wasn't for the all-female option. In this regard, PJCA is leading the way and is considered somewhat of a poster child by CNSW and Cricket Australia for the promotion and development of female cricket. With regards to the actual competitions, a big congratulations to St Clair Hawks and Springwood for winning the Spring and Summer competitions respectively. We kick started our 2016/17 girls representative season by aligning our trials with the boys for the first time, allowing us to run a winter net sessions development program at Howell Oval. This was a great opportunity for the girls to practice and further develop their skills during the off season, and it certainly reaped rewards come the main season. The 2016/17 representative season saw us field a very competitive side into the U13 Mollie Dive competition. After a very successful season, our girls finished second overall only narrowly losing to Bankstown who were this year's winner. A number of our Penrith girls were also selected in Cricket NSW U13 Academy Squad for this year! Congratulations to these girls on their success in these squads: U/13 – Bethany Lane, Claire Moore, Eloise Williams. For the first time, we were also able to take an invitation U15 side away to the inaugural U15 All Girls Regional Carnival held in Orange in January. We obviously fielded a young side but full of potential and the girls (like in the Mollie Dive season) excelled to finish third. This was truly a magic way to finish off an exception representative season. Last but definitely not least, as in past years absolutely none of the above opportunities for junior girls would be possible without the support of my trusty manager, Vanessa Bradshaw as well as the PJCA Management Committee and the PJCA Representative Committee. Thank you to all involved, particularly President Geoff Sullivan, Development Coordinator Brendan Bayliss, Joanne Agius, and Michelle Pollard who coordinate our sponsors and keep us all looking spic and span!... Girls cricket is on the up with the support of all of you. THANK YOU!! David Williams Girls Development Coordinator

This name was retained until 3 October 1997 when the name was changed to "New South Wales Districts Cricket Association". The original affliated Associations in 1903 were: Balmain, Centennial Park, Dubbo, NSW Wednesday Half Holiday, Northern Suburbs, Moore Park, St George, and Western Suburbs.

J H CREAK SHIELD (UNDER 11) HISTORY The trophy for the Under 11 competition was presented in 1989 by the NSWJCU, in memory of the late Jack Creak, Assistant Secretary/Treasurer (1958-80) and Life Member. Penrith has won the shield only once, in 1994/95.

What a great season it was this year for our Under 11 side in what was many of our players first introduction into representative cricket. We achieved some milestones in the trials our opening partnership of the season came in the trials 45 between Ethan Haldane and Cooper Mclean, Liam Knight scored 53* against Northern Districts. Our first competition game was against St George Liam Darlington top scored with 43. We were bowled out for 150. In reply we only took 3 wickets before they knocked off the runs. Game 2 we returned to Hawkesbury where we batted first and posted 139. A great bowling effort by Mahad Ezad 2/8 8 overs. Unfortunately, they past us in the 49th over. Our 3rd game was South Eastern they batted first and scored 203. We took to the crease with high anticipation but unfortunately were rolled for 89 in reply Aaron Barlow top scoring with a hard hitting 26. Game 4 was to become a memorable day all-round we elected to bat first and we batted our 50 overs and posted 144 Ethan Haldane scoring 59. We took to the field with vigour and were able to grab our first victory dismissing Camden for 135. Our opening bowlers really bowled well with Blake Hodges taking 3/18 off 8 and Aaron Barlow Taking 2/17. Last round Inner West Harbour played some good cricket and bowled us out for 61. Unfortunately, we only managed 3 wickets in reply. Next we move to Newcastle where we had a great time and had some great fun, special mention to Harveer Dhaliwal who played great cricket. Leo Astill scored 50* in our last game of the tournament. It has been an absolute pleasure coaching the u/11 Creak Shield team the boys have been a credit to themselves their behaviour has been first class. Cooper Kelleher, Fynn Carstens and James Lennox, all contributed in great ways during the season. Special mention to our skipper Blake Hodges great job mate. Also my wife Kylie thank you and assistants Wade Dun and Jesse Astill. Brad Astill, Coach

2016-17

Well what a fantastic season these boys have had. Some new faces in the side which have made a huge difference. These boys are learning how to win when it matters. Our season started with a game vs Parramatta. Our top order started well getting us to 4-150 off our 50 overs with everyone contributing and Cody Robinson top scoring with 40. Our bowlers then kept Parramatta to 101 with Riley Brandl and Kade Zammit taking 3 wickets each. Our next game was vs ACT. After the long drive the boys were ready to play cricket with inclement weather looming. We were able to restrict ACT to 98 runs. Akshat Mishra being the pick of the bowlers

Page 16 taking 3 wickets and Riley Brandl, Reegan Wilson and Kade Zammit each taking 2 wickets. In reply we struggled early being 5-32 until the middle order kicked in to get us over the line 7 down. Round 3 saw us take on Sutherland away. The top order did a fine job again with Akshat Mishra top scoring with 47 and Reegan Wilson and Cody Robinson not far behind. We were able to give ourselves 191 to defend. We were off to a great start with Akshat getting two early break throughs. Then some very solid batting from Sutherland tested us. The boys fought hard all game to defend the total and were able to restrict Sutherland to 176 off their 50 overs. It was a great test of character from all of the lads. Round 4 vs St George was an interesting game. It was very low scoring and at times was hard to see the kids on the field due to the grass being so long. St George batted first posting 63 runs after some fantastic bowling which was backed up by some awesome fielding and catching. This made all the difference. Bryce Fenn and Kaelan Penney both took two catches and were on fire in the field. We were then able to chase down the score in 37.2 overs with Kade Zammit top scoring with 35. Round 5 vs Canterbury Wests saw the long grass again. Very hard for these young men to get value for shots. Retish Sethi showed he was going to be there for a long time. He was very patient at the top of the order and batted a long time for his 13 runs. We were 4-30 when Shan Subramanian entered, he turned the strike over and he and Kaelan Penney put on a 41 run partnership which proved to be the difference. We were able to scramble to 100. The boys knew they had a job to do if they wanted to play finals cricket. The buzz the boys had heading into the field was fantastic. They made light work of Canterbury West dismissing them for 41 runs. Reegan Wilson taking 3-7 off 8.3 overs. In the field 8 of our 12 players were involved in a dismissal in one way or another. A truly fantastic fielding performance which shows that fielding is a big part of our winning culture. Quarter final vs Hornsby Ku-ring-gai, and we won the toss. We had a bat and started off ok. We were 2- 36 and then 3-36 and then Akshat Mishra took to the stage. Akshat batted brilliantly and scored 85. He was supported by others and helped us reach a defendable total of 162. Hornsby Ku-ring-gai's top order were in for the long haul. They were very hard to dismiss, when we finally got the breakthrough we needed, the junior Panthers pounced and were able to dismiss Hornsby for 83 runs. Riley Brandl and Kade Zammit both taking 3 wickets each. Off to the semi-final. Semi-final vs North Shore. This was going to be our biggest test. We have played North Shore in the past and knew they would be strong opposition. We lost the toss and were sent in. The outfield was very slow and hard to score on. We lost a few early wickets and were on the back foot. Our skipper Reegan Wilson entered to fight hard for his teammates. He put up a gallant effort and top scored with 32. He got us to a total of 88. Knowing that this was a tall order, the boys were up for a challenge. Knowing we had the runs on the board and they had to get them. With North Shore at 2-19 we were in with a fighting chance. North Shore had a couple of big hitters at the crease. We bowled well to create some chances but were unfortunately unable to hold onto them. North Shore ended up getting our runs 4 wickets down but it wasn't without a great spirited fight from our young men. It was a great season had by all of these kids and to see them grow and learn from the start of the season to the end of the season was a fantastic sight to see. I'm hoping we can improve next season and give the WS Gee Shield a real shake up once again. Enjoy your off season boys and come back bigger and better next season. It was an absolute pleasure. I would also like to thank all of the parents of these wonderful kids. Without you, these kids wouldn't be where they are today. I personally think we had the best lunches by far and catered for every kid and parent. A job truly well done. Thank you to everyone that scored, brought gazebos and everything else that was needed. Thank you to Penrith Junior Cricket Association for your time and efforts and for allowing me to coach these young men and for giving them the opportunity to represent their district and the baggy black.

Page 17 Finally a big thank you to Mick and Auriole, if it wasn't for you two, things would have been a hell of a lot harder. Thank you for being there when I couldn't and picking up like nothing had changed. You two truly mean a lot to me and this team. Thank you so much. Liam Zammit, Coach

2016-17

The season kicked off with a strong display in our trial matches which provided the boys with some confidence leading into the competition. Round 1 saw us take on Blacktown in which we batted first after losing the toss. With some tight bowling and a slow Jamison field we were restricted to 9/115 after 50 overs, Max Becker 31 n/o and Bailey Tebbutt 18, we knew it was going to take something special in the field. We started off well taking 4/36 and managed to slow the run rate down and with some great fielding taking 3 run outs we had Blacktown 9/95 but were not able to capitalize on what was a great effort trying to defend such a low total as they passed our total in the 47th over. Hard fought contest and were unlucky to come away with the win. Round 2 saw us take on Hawkesbury and after winning the toss we sent them into bat, with some tight bowling we restricted them to 9/126 from 50 overs, Eli Hardy (4/14) & Jamie Byrnes (1/13). With a steady

Page 20 start and always in control we passed there score in the 48th over with Aiden Kells 46 n/o & Callan Kean 44 n/o we came away with the win. Round 3 against Canterbury Wests we lost the toss and were sent into field, after some very good batting we were under pressure and the boys were unable to get themselves out of what was a tiring day in the field we found ourselves with a massive run chase after Canterbury finished 4/243 form their 50 overs, Max Robertson (1/17) & Aiden Kells (1/21). We got off to a slow start with some really tight bowling but we were never in the game ending up 8/156 from our 50 overs, Jamie Byrnes 38 & Connor Potter-Jugovac 31. Some hard lessons to learn out of this game which will help the boys well moving forward. Round 4 we played Inner West Harbour and coming off a heavy defeat the week before the boys were ready for a big game. Some outstanding bowling and fielding we were able to bowl Inner West out for 94 inside 37 overs. With a low total to chase we set out to chase them down as quick as possible in which we did after 28 overs Aiden Kells 47 & Bailey Tebbutt 18 we cruised to comfortable victor. Round 5 we hosted the ACT in which we bowled first in what was a do or die situation for both teams with the winner to progress into the finals, with some good batting and what was not our finest day in the field again ACT finished 6/209 after their 50 overs. Another slow start and a rather large total to chase we were never really in the game falling 60 runs short at 98/146 after 50 overs Aiden Kells 37 & Jamie Byrnes 24. Two wins from Five games isn’t a cause for celebration but the team were able to show guts and determination in all 5 games and with 3 out of 5 teams in our pool qualifying for the finals shows that we needed to compete just a little bit harder for the wins. Well done to Aiden Kells (133 runs) and Jamie Byrnes (81 runs) on your run scoring this season and also to Max Robertson, Eli Hardy and Jamie Byrnes all picking up 5 wickets each. Thank you to the parents for their continued support of the team and their afternoon tea, bbq and all those who helped each week scoring. BIG Thankyou to Jill Sherwood our team manager for all your efforts throughout the season even thou Will was sidelined with injury you were always there to make sure everything ran smoothly so thank you for making my job easy. I am extremely proud of all the boys in the way they conducted themselves on and off the field and even thou we missed the finals you can all hold your heads high and know that you have done Penrith Junior Cricket proud, work hard in the off season and I look forward to hopefully working with you all in the future. Page 22 HAROLD MOORE SHIELD (UNDER 14) HISTORY In September 1957, because of rising numbers, the NSWJCU decided to conduct an Under 14 competition for the “Juvenile Shield”. Three months later, the St George C.A. donated a trophy for the same purpose named after Harold George Moore, President of their Boy’s Competition at the time. Penrith has won the shield on four occasions: • 1989/90 • 1994/95 • 2000/01 • 2007/08

2016-17

The under 14 Penrith NSWDCA had a fantastic year in the Harold Moore competition. After a slow start the boys stuck together and turned their season around, making it to the finals and finishing as runners up. After rounds 1 and 2 we were yet to have a win, defeated closely by the ACT and going down to Canterbury West by 32 runs. On the back of hard work at training we were able to have our first win

Page 23 against Fairfield passing their big total of 207 in 49 overs. We then went on to convincingly defeat Parramatta and Blacktown. This saw us placed 7th overall, sneaking into the finals. In the qualifying final we came up against 2nd placed Hornsby. The boys put in a great effort restricting them to 195 and passing this total in just 42 overs. In the semi-final we played 1st placed Canterbury Wests. The boys were quietly confident and with a brilliant effort kept them to 146. It was tough going but we scrapped home in the 45th over 9 wickets down, making the grand-final. We got off to a great start having Northshore 7 for 83. However grand finals are never easy, and their lower order stood up and set us a total of 173. The boys fought hard but in the end were bowled out 15 runs short. I would like to thank Peter Tracey for doing a great job as manager. Also thank you to Steve Muller, Terry Jacobs and Kym Daley for helping with training. I want to congratulate the boys for working hard and having an awesome season. There were some brilliant individual performances but for me the best thing was that every player contributed to the team with either bat, ball or in the field. At the start of the year we said that our aim for the season was to work hard, stick together and most of all enjoy our cricket and the results would look after themselves. Well done boys on being a great team and finishing runners up for 2016/17. Love the cats!!! Jarrod Lee, Coach

2016-17

We were all looking forward to this season, with the promise of turf wicket cricket and the opportunity to play on ovals, there was plenty to look forward to. Our trial game form was also very positive, despite some challenging wet weather conditions and a sticky wicket against Hawkesbury. The transition to playing turf wicket cricket would test our batsman and bowlers, our draw was also going to be a test, playing at least 3 potentially Top 4 district teams. Round 1 had us travelling to the beach and a very picturesque Coogee Oval against South Eastern. Batting first we found ourselves in trouble with early wickets tumbling. Ryan Gibson partnered with Page 26 Daniel Tupper to stem the tide and we were able to muster 7/125, Ryan top scoring with 59no. South Eastern’s batsmen had plans for an afternoon surf and went about plundering our attack with an array of strong and decisive drives, cuts and pulls. Our opening bowler, Elliot Heath, had to leave the field after only 3 overs with a back injury that would plague him for the remainder of the season. South Eastern made 2/126. Round 2 had us at home at “Royal Rance” playing Manly. After winning the toss, they then displayed a powerful and dominant batting innings, amassing 9/324. Our boys rallied hard with the ball, made notable bowling changes and regularly snared wickets. However, Manly’s batting was relentless throughout their order. Our chase started positively at 6 runs/over, however it became a mountain too high as wickets fell. Luke Gale displayed some positive stroke play and hard hitting to score 62 runs. Penrith 10/161. Round 3 v Blacktown at Whalan Reserve. Winning the toss, we wanted to assert ourselves by batting first. Unfortunately, our batting never really got out of first gear. Regular wickets thwarted our momentum with only Jared Calear-King, 38 runs and Lovish Sethi, 32 runs the notable scorers in a team total of 119 runs. Blacktown’s opening batsmen provided another display of assertive and positive batting, chasing down our total for the loss of only 1 wicket. Round 4 v Inner West Harbour at beautiful Birchgrove Oval. One could be forgiven for losing concentration while batting or fielding given the spectacular Sydney Harbour and iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge being in full view throughout the match. Bowling first, it felt like the cricket god’s were finally smiling on us with the boys playing some really aggressive cricket and in the box seat having IWH 6/87. Ben Bradshaw bowling well to claim 3 for 28. However, despite their gallant attempts, they couldn’t deliver the knockout blow, with IWH reaching 9/164. The boys approached the run chase with confidence, running well and batting with courage and intent on a pitch that was getting lower and slower with each over. Matt Sullivan scored 53 runs and our lower order rallied well as the total edged closer. Agonisingly our final wicket fell with us 20 runs short. This match goes down as one we should have won! Our final Round 5 match was against Bankstown at Royal Rance. Again bowling first, we created significant early inroads and had Bankstown on the ropes at 7/55. Jack Trezise bowled a magical spell, hitting the stumps often and the batsman’s pads to claim 6 wickets for 11 runs off 7 overs. Once again, we did not tread on the throat, but allowed Bankstown to crawl to 113 runs. In return, our batsman found the going tough and we collapsed to be all out for 86 runs. Greater contributions each game are required by more players to ensure we can play competitive rep cricket. One batsman or one bowler each game performing well is not enough to win you cricket matches. Many good cricket lessons were learnt by our squad this season which I am sure will benefit them all in the long term. Once again I commend Matthew on his captaincy of the team and all 12 players on their sportsmanship on and off the field, you guys are first class. Many thanks to Bridgette Gibson for her managerial assistance and work – it is immense and appreciated. Thank you also to our wonderful parents, grandparents and siblings for their support of our team, their afternoon teas and scoring input. Congratulations to Matthew Sullivan, Elliot Heath and Ryan Gibson on their selection in the Penrith U16 A W Green Shield squad. These boys enjoyed great team success, Penrith winning through to the semi final stage, finishing 3rd out of 20 clubs. I would also like to thank Colin Rowe and John Lothian for coaching and managing the U15 Carnival Team that travelled to Armidale in January. I congratulate Luke Gale as captain and all the players who attended and very convincingly “WON” the Armidale Country Carnival. It is a wonderful achievement and great success for the boys that they will remember very fondly. I wish the boys every success as they embark on their final season of junior cricket in Season 2017-18!! Geoff Sullivan, Coach

The competition was named after Charles Samuel Watson, former Secretary NSWJCU and a former Secretary and Treasurer of the Manly Warringah C.A. Penrith has won the shield on five occasions: • 1992/93 • 1999/00 • 2003/04 • 2004/05 • 2009/10

2016-17

A strong pre-season has given the players a strong platform to be a real force in this competition and with the side selected I had high expectations that would be the case. There is a strong team culture within this group of men and my main objective was to prepare these guys not only for this competition but also grade cricket in the coming years. It has been exciting to already see most of these players make that transformation from junior cricket in to senior cricket ranks during this season.

Page 29 Round 1 v South Eastern was the perfect start to the competition with a 96 run victory. After winning the toss and batting first Penrith were able to apply themselves and completed their 50 overs on 4-193. It was a steady but solid start which left wickets in hand for the back end of the innings were Penrith increased the tempo to compile a solid total which would be very defendable. Nick Thornton top scored with 51 and Kieran Shone 49*. With a competitive total to defend it ended up being more than enough dismissing South Eastern for 97 after 37 overs. Bowling wise it was tight right through the innings and along with a solid performance in the field this built a lot of pressure which saw wickets fall regularly. Best of the bowlers, Blake Wicks 2-18 and Damon Myburgh-Sisam 4-17. Round 2 v Wollongong at Keira Oval saw another comprehensive win by 7 wickets. Winning the toss and sending the opposition in on a wicket that would suit the bowlers turned out to be the right decision. Another disciplined bowling and fielding performance saw Wollongong all out for 93 in the 44 over. Jordan Davidson was exceptional with figures of 4-8 from his 6 overs and Adrian Aguis found plenty of turn picking up 3-13 from his 9 overs. After a shaky start with the bat being 3-33 it was left to Kieran Shone 33* & Zack Farley 41* to pass the Wollongong total 3 down in the 24th over. Round 3 v Parramatta at Rance Oval was a reality check against a much stronger outfit. With Parramatta winning the toss and electing to bat on an excellent wicket they finished their 50 overs on 7- 203. It was another strong performance with the ball and in the field to keep Parramatta to 203. Damon Myburgh-Sisam was the best of the bowlers with 3-40 from his 10 overs. A strong start with the bat saw the first wicket fall at 47 and at 3-91 Penrith were a strong chance of chasing down Parramatta’s total of 203. Unfortunately with the fall of a couple of quick wickets panic set in and in the space of 3 runs we lost 5 wickets and from there the task was going to be difficult. In the end we were bowled out for 154 in the 44th over falling 50 runs short of our third consecutive win. Best with the bat was Ayran Grover with an impressive 42. Round 4 v Manly at Bill Ball Oval saw us back in the winner’s circle. Manly won the toss and batted on another very good wicket and after 50 overs compiled 8-189 after 50 overs. This probably wasn’t our best performance with the ball and in the field but we had kept Manly to a total that was very gettable with some solid batting. Best with the ball was Jordon Davidson with 4-41 from his 10 overs. Penrith run chase began extremely well with a first wicket stand of 111 between Adrian Aguis and Ayran Grover and this put the team in to an excellent position to chase down 189. A couple of late wickets weren’t enough to stop Penrith from reaching the target 4 down in the 48th over. Aryan Grover was excellent seeing his team right through the innings to end up 94*, Adrian Aguis was very supportive with 63. Round 5 v Canterbury Wests at Blick Oval was a do or die affair, winner went through to the quarter finals and the loser was out of the competition, so tensions were high amongst players and spectators. After losing the toss we were sent in to bat which was our preferred option before the toss and Penrith finished 8-201 after 50 overs. Again a solid start at the top enabled the lower order to accelerate towards the back end of the innings. Ayran Grover was again impressive at the top of the order with 57 and Logan McIllwain who was a late call up to the team finished the innings off well with 34*. Bowling early was steady at best and we struggled to build pressure on the Canterbury Wests top order but a couple of wickets steadied the nerves. Both bowlers and fielders were then able to build pressure which saw the opposition lose 7-50 and eventually bowled out for 176 in the 49th over. Damon Myburgh-Sisam bowled well for his 5-38 from 10 overs. Quarter Final v Bankstown at Rance Oval was always going to be a difficult match against a very good team and unfortunately the occasion got the better of the guys. After winning the toss and having a bat we found ourselves in lots of trouble early at 5-23 and from that point we found it extremely difficult to get back in to the match. In the 40th over Penrith was bowled out for a disappointing 124. Kieran Shone was solid with the bat during a difficult time with 41 and a rear guard action of 39 from Michael Organ. Defending such a small total requires a lot of things to go your way and with an early wicket there was always hope. Unfortunately a couple of solid partnerships saw Bankstown chase down the total of 125 with 18 overs to spare. All in all it was a disappointing way to finish what was a very successful competition. The commitment and effort shown by these men during the campaign cannot be questioned, they have enjoyed each other’s company and they have worked extremely well as a team. This team has proven how competitive they can be and with some individual belief we would see some stronger individual Page 30 performances. In the 2 defeats we basically lost both matches in the space of 10 overs, pressure and momentum can be difficult to control and everything seems to be moving so fast. These times need to be identified by individuals and a relaxing deep breath is a must, composure is your best friend through those difficult times. I would like to thank all the parents for their help scoring, preparing wickets and general support throughout the year, the afternoon teas were fantastic! A big thanks to Joanne Aguis who has done an exceptional job as manager. It has been a pleasure and good fun coaching this team of young men, I have been extremely proud in their efforts and in the spirit they have played the game. They have represented the Baggy Black with a great deal of pride and I look forward to watching their careers develop over the next number of years. Dale Turner, Coach

MOLLIE DIVE SHIELD (UNDER 13) HISTORY Mary Clouston Dive (1913 - 1997), better known as Mollie, was an Australian cricketer who played seven Test matches from 1948 to 1951. The Mollie Dive Shield was inaugurated in 1998/99, and a stand at North Sydney Oval is named in her honour. Penrith has won the shield on two occasions: • 2010/11 • 2013/14

2016-17

This year saw a seven round first past the post competition. Penrith Mollie Dive started our campaign with a solid win over New Coasters. Penrith 0/91 (C Moore 46*, B Lane 27*) def New Coasters all out 89 (C Moore 3/6, K Toy 2/18)

Page 44 In round 2, we travelled to Lane Cove to play North Shore where we had another very strong result. Penrith 3/208 (C Moore 51*, E Williams 43, K Pelle 23*, B Lane 22*) def North Shore all out 111 (E Hunter 2/16) Round 3 had us up against eventual champions Bankstown where we suffered our only defeat of the year. Bankstown 2/138 (T Bradsaw 1/6, E Williams 1/22) def Penrith 3/137 (C Moore 75*, E Williams 22). Round 4 saw us in another tight game against ACT where we won on the last ball to keep our premiership hopes alive. Penrith 6/176 (C Moore 101*, B Lane 35) def ACT 5/175 (K Pelle 1/8, B Lane 1/19, C Moore 1/20, K Toy 1/31). Round 5 saw us take on Sutherland, and we were back to our strong winning ways. Penrith 4/77 (B Lane 19, K Pelle 12, M Sullivan 11) def Sutherland all out 76 (E Williams 3/2, K Toy 2/5, C Moore 2/8, C Maxwell 1/0). In Round 6 we were up against our local derby foes in Parramatta and saw us walk away with another strong win. Penrith 181 (C Moore 83, B Lane 21) def Parramatta 112 (B Lane 2/15, C Moore 1/8, K Toy 1/13, M Sullivan 1/15) Our final round saw us take on Manly in what turned out to be a closer game than we would have liked but we eventually got over the line. Penrith 4/165 (C Moore 59, B Lane 49*) def Manly 5/163 (C Moore 3/12). Such a strong season where we finished up second behind Bankstown. Many great individual performances but I would like to acknowledge the exceptional season of Claire Moore. Over 400 runs saw her take out not only the Batting award for the entire competition but Claire was also awarded the Mollie Dive Cricketer of the Year - fantastic. I would also like to compliment both Claire and Eloise Williams on their exceptional joint leadership and captaincy of the side for this year. Notwithstanding their own on field captaincy and skill, the first hand encouragement and mentoring of our younger players is exactly what playing for Penrith exemplifies, and both these players should be congratulated for their efforts this year in this area. With the growth of female cricket, we will be in a position to go from strength to strength as we re- launch an U15 Margaret Peden side next year in addition to our ongoing U13 Mollie Dive efforts. I look forward to the girls development for 2016/17. As always, none of this would be possible without the parental commitment but I'd like to single out Shaun Sullivan for his scoring as well as Vanessa Bradshaw for her managerial help. All very much appreciated. Bring on next season !!!! David Williams, Coach

It was always going to be a huge learning experience for the players, parents and manager, but one that everyone seemed excited to be part of. The team trained as a development squad with the Under 10 Penrith Black team under the guidance of Penrith Grade players Jake Wholohan and Andrew Hazard. The boys trained hard and learnt the skills required for competitive cricket. We had three pre-season trial games that would give the boys a chance to get a better feel for rep cricket and the challenges it presents compared to local cricket. It was also an opportunity for the boys to play with many new players while giving them the opportunity to show their stuff for the games ahead. We played 5 normal competition rounds during the season and performed strongly in all of them winning four and losing a highly competitive match against their training partners Penrith Black.

Page 48 Throughout the first five games the boys were impressive in all aspects of the game. Bowling first on many occasions the constant tight bowling made it extremely hard for teams to score - with all but one game we restricting the opposition to fewer than 100 runs. Our batting, particularly from the top order of Ahmed, Campbell, and Kayden was positive and calculated as they took care of the run chases in solid fashion, with on most occasions only losing a small number of wickets. Penrith White consisted of a strong batting side only losing 23 wickets over the six games. Based on the early strong performances, Penrith White earned their spot in the final facing Penrith Black. It was a very tough and difficult game for both teams as they faced many of their team mates from the day before. Penrith White won the toss and sent Black into bat. The opening bowlers of Flynn and Kayden were superb and supported by relentless fielding which was then followed up by Ahmed and the impressive leg spin of Will James. The boys constantly took wickets to restrict Black to be all out for 56 with Ryan the destroyer in the middle overs picking up 3 wickets. What impressed me the most, as it did throughout the whole season, was the quality of the fielding. Not a single match went by where there was not a classic catch or piece of fielding to cause a run out that led to the momentum of the match changing. A definite highlight was the speckie taken by Isoiah in the final. Chasing 56, the boys started steady being 1-15 when a top order collapse put the game on a knife edge with us at 5-20. With a small partnership getting us up to about 6-28 is was game on with Ryan and Isoiah at the crease. These boys took the game by the scruff of the neck batting with composure, running aggressively working singles and putting the bad ball away to ensure that Penrith White got home finishing 6-57 and winning the title. It was a pleasure managing the boys, watching them grow with confidence and improve their skills each week. Their enthusiasm and never give up attitude is to be commended but most important the great comradery and encouragement they gave each other throughout the season was amazing. A huge thank you to all the parents who gave support with scoring, umpiring and supplying lunches and to Grant who coached the boys, giving them confidence to perform in the field and gave them the edge to win the Grand Final. Congratulations to all the boys for the great success in their first representative season and coming away with the trophy was outstanding. Sharon Clifton

UNDER 10 BLACK The boys finished on top of the table, undefeated, but lost their final game. Throughout the season they found themselves under pressure on just two occasions; 1) The first against Hornsby Blue in round 2, defending 126, Hornsby were 5/98 with 6 overs remaining, Ethan, Xander and Gorang took 5/10 between them to seal the win, 2) The second was against Penrith White in round 3, defending 133, White were 3/90 with 10 overs remaining, Ryan and Gorang combined to take 5 wickets and White were held to 8/114 This afforded me the opportunity to mix up the batting order and share the bowling around throughout the session. In the final against Penrith White, the boys were under pressure the whole game; they were rolled for 56 in the 29th over. The fielding and bowling in reply was the best that I have seen and this gave me a great deal of pride and satisfaction to be part of such a team. We were looking good when White were 5/20 in the 15th over and even at 6/29 in the 23rd, but unfortunately the boys took no more wickets, Isaiah and Ryan Culbert of White held a steady nerve for a 28 run unbroken partnership to win the game for White in the 33rd over. Page 49 Both umpires on the day commented that the standard of cricket was very exceptional and easily one the most tightly contested and well played games they have witnessed. Of the 12 boys, 11 could call themselves batsmen, and at varying stages in the tournament each had their opportunity to shine, unfortunately given the strength of the batting only a few were afforded the opportunity to shine more than once. Xander Carstens was a standout performer with 236 runs from 6 games, including a 111* (79) and a 69* (88), Will Zakostelsky and Michael Valerio produced 59 runs each for the season. Likewise with bowling, apart from the final, everyone bowled in every game and each week saw a different star. Of the 12 boys, 11 could bowl. Gorang Sharma was the standout performer with 9/49 off 25.4 overs including best of 3/3 (4.3). Other notable performances were Will Zakostelsky 4/8 (5) and Connor Gardiner 4/12 (5). Glenn Gardiner

For the majority of the team, this was their first year of playing representative cricket. Needless to say there was lots of nervous anticipation to start the season. After the trials, our first game was away against Manly at Harbord Oval. This meant a road trip to the Northern Beaches. We lost the toss, and were sent into bat by Manly. It was tough going early on, going 2 down for only 4 runs, and then shortly later 5 down with only 19 on the board. It was hard work in the middle against a strong bowling attack from Manly. A few partnerships got going and Cooper (32) and Bray (22) were able to bat some time and build an innings getting us to a total 115 all out, off 35.5 overs. Unfortunately a couple of the boys experienced their first duck at reps level, and a couple of others were victims of runouts. After an early lunch we went into the field to defend our modest total. We discovered that strong batting complemented the strong Manly bowlers. We didn’t get our first wicket until they’d posted 35 runs. They seemed to be doing it easy but we were hopeful for a while after a cluster of wickets fell and we had them 5/88. In the end Manly got to a winning total of 119 without losing further wickets. There was plenty to learn from our first game. Our second game was at Blue Hills playing NWS Hurricanes. We lost the toss again and the Hurricanes went into to bat. It was our worst day in the field for the season; we gave away 42 extras and bowled inaccurately allowing the opposition to post a total 176 after 40 overs. Amongst the damage Harky bowled very economically with figures of 0/13 off 8 overs, and Cooper delivered the figures of 2/15 off 6 overs including 3 maidens. The biggest lesson of the day was our slow over rate – we were penalised 5 overs in the afternoon for being too slow.

Page 53 In a ‘never say never’ approach, after lunch we took to the field determined to have a go. We needed 176 off 35 overs and with big contributions from Grant (35), Cooper (33), Harry (22), Ben (18) and Mitch (13) we got as close as 167 before we ran out of overs. Our slow over rate was a brutal lesson learnt the hard way. We vowed never to fail again on that point, and celebrated just how close we got in a big run chase. Game three saw us on the road again travelling to the Central Cost to play at Front Oval. In an emerging pattern, we lost the toss and bowled first. After our poor performance in the field in Game 2, we were stoked to contain Central Coast to just 90 after 40 overs. Another strong bowling performance from Harky with 2/7 off 6 overs and Luke who took 1/8 off four overs. Tupps also took an early ‘speccy’ catch that inspired the team for the morning. After our Game 2 total of 167 we took to the field with confidence to bat. What we found though was runs hard to come by; the grass was thick in both the in field and out field. So singles were hard to find, what looked like 2s turned into runouts and we didn’t get a boundary all afternoon. The lack of runs, combined with good bowling, saw us lose wickets quickly and we were all out for 48. Luke put in a gutsy performance at the crease, coming in at #10 and high scoring with 10, the only boy who got to double figures. Game four was the first game in the New Year and we were looking forward to hosting Hornsby Blue at Jamo #2. We won the toss and went in to bat. After our low score in Game 3 we were determined to bat some time and accumulate a good total. Our openers Ben and Cooper started well, with first wicket at 21. We were travelling very well at 5 for 92, but struggled to capitalise when the Hornsby opening bowlers returned to close out the innings. In the end we got to three figures, just, with a total of 7/100 after 40 overs. Big contributors were Matt (28) and Ben (26) but they were well supported by the rest of the order. We returned to the field after lunch to defend a modest total. Our bowling wasn’t tight enough though, with 33 extras, and too many balls short, and down leg side. Hornsby chased down our total after only 33 overs and 4 down. On the bowling side, Harky was a standout again with 3/7 off 7 overs. At this stage of the season it was getting a little hard for the team. The boys had tried hard and just hadn’t been able to put a full game together and we’d lost 4 games straight! Game 5 was an away game, but only required a short drive to Rydalmere to play Northern Districts at Upjohn oval. It was forecast to be a very hot day, and under the new heat rule policy, we were rushed starting early in a reduced overs game to try to beat the heat. We lost the toss, and Northern districts sent us into bat so they could avoid bowling in the extreme heat of the afternoon. The boys put together a solid batting performance, posting 120 for the loss of only 6 wickets in just 30 overs. Our best day yet with the bat with a season high-score for Harry, and the team, with 44 runs. Luke (12), Bray (12) and Matt (11) all contributed to strong partnerships. After an early lunch, and plenty of water, we took to the field. The cloud cover had burnt off, and the hot weather forecast became a reality. As the temperature hit 42c in the shade, we bowled, and sweated. The boys rotated on 2 over spells, with drinks breaks every 5 overs. Despite the heat, the team put the best figures down. Extras dropped to 17 and Matt showed that when you bowl full and attack the off stump, even from a short run up, wickets flow. He finished 2/19 off 5 overs, and Harky kept up his economical bowling with 0/9 off 6 overs. We kept the bowling tight, and restricted Northern Districts to 95 runs off 30 overs. The first win for the season, and by far their strongest performance, especially in the heat. We celebrated our win with a team talk over slushies! Game 6 was decided via a forfeit. We were due to play a home game at Blue Hills against South Eastern, but South Eastern forfeited due to forecast extreme heat. This was a shame as the weather was milder than the previous week and a game would have been possible. Still, the record books show it as a win! Game 7 was the final round. In Presidents Cup that means, 1 vs 2, 3 vs 4, etc. For us that meant 9 vs 10, and we played Northern Districts again but this time at home. After beating Northern Districts twice, once in a trial game, and again in Game 5 we were reassured that if we played our game we would win again. We won the toss, and sent Northern Districts into bat. Through some focused bowling we kept them to 98, 7 wickets down after 40 overs. Some very tight bowling from Ben 0/5 off 4 overs, Matt 0/7 off 5 overs with most wickets going to Harky 2/11 off 8 and Harry 2/12 off 5 overs.

Page 54 After lunch we went into the bat for the final time for the season. We started shakily, with Ben being run out in the first over for no score and had lost both openers for only 9 runs. Matt, Harry, Bray (18) and Mitch (22) all built partnerships and consolidated our position to get us back to 5/58. There were some nervous overs and a few more wickets, but ultimately Tupps and Grant got us home with some clever running to exploit byes and wides. We got the runs 8 wickets down. Our third win for the season! The boys should be proud of their first season in reps. It was heavy going in some games, but we finished a credible 8th of 13 teams. We showed that if we put our best bowling and batting together on the same day, we are competitive with anyone in the competition. Indeed, three of the games we lost were against three of the top four teams in the competition. Thanks to the boys for having a go all season. From a coach’s viewpoint, I have seen your progression and development individually and as a team. Thanks to Ben for captaining the side through the season – a big responsibility for a cricketer with a big future. Thanks to the parents for the support and making the time to bring your boys to training and game day. My biggest thanks go to Karen for managing so well, and allowing me to focus on the boys and the cricket. David Tupper, Coach

The team experienced a great season in 2016/17, gaining extensive knowledge which resulted in eight players being selected to join the rep team. Our aim was to always be competitive throughout the season - achieving this meant we had to build on teamwork and get to know each other’s game. The boys set out guidelines for themselves with some input from me, with discipline being paramount. Whilst proudly representing Penrith the boys also set out to achieve individual milestones and great contributions were made by all in each game, either with the bat, ball or in the fielding arena. Although we had a disastrous start in our first game due to five run outs, our fielding and running between the wickets improved greatly. I am proud of how the boys performed throughout the season, demonstrating maturity and confidence as well as improving and achieving their individual goals. Sam, Jack Gale and Cameron went away to Lismore with the DCA side that participated in the Lismore Carnival in January. They can be proud of their achievements in that tournament, having also had the opportunity of playing on turf wickets. Special thanks to Megan for her dependability, organisational skills and tireless efforts behind the scenes – as we all know how much work goes into planning such an event - it certainly made game days a breeze !! I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank all parents for their constant support, because no matter what was asked of them, be it on game days or at training, a helping hand was always extended. Special “Thanks” also to the extended families that cheered us on at each game and sometimes even braved the weather to share in our day! This was indeed a pleasure to see.

Page 57 THE TEAM James Boyd: One of our spin bowlers who had a BBI of 3/17, although unlucky with the bat, was always under the pump to score quick runs in the final overs in his 4 innings. I have no doubt a big score is around the corner. Hayden Dunn: Our opening bat for most of the season; set up some useful partnerships while getting amongst the runs himself. He gave it his all whilst out on the field and although his love for the “big shots” was great to watch they also sadly got him back in the pavilion sooner than planned. Raymond Dent: Joined the team after our break and settled in well. His passion for cricket was evident while he was out in the middle. He enjoyed his time in the team and is now looking forward to the trials. Cameron Gomesz: (Captain) Took 2 outstanding catches at slip during the season and a difficult catch off his own bowling as well. He achieved the highest rep score of 42 vs Illawarra, and lead with confidence when they were under pressure. His BBI was 2/12. Jack Gale: Showed so much maturity and put team mates before himself. Jack would always break a partnership that was taking hold with his excellent bowling skills. He was also a handy with the bat, scoring a valuable 40 runs. He remains one of our key wicket keepers and was solid in the field throughout. Ty Gill: Played three games for us and during this time he showed that he can bowl, conceding only 20 runs in 8 overs. What an achievement! Cohen Haldane: This young man improved immensely as the season went on. Cohen took on all advice and was a live wire on the field. He would chase each and every ball if he could and also scored 23 which we were all very proud of. He also chimed in with 5 handy wickets for the season and his BBI was 2/15. Jack Harriott: As our main keeper, Jack always put his team first, even when injured, he didn’t let us down. Although he didn’t get many chances with the bat, he certainly saved a few runs from behind the wicket which was an immense help to the team. Oliver Jenkins: Also played three games this season for us and in this short period we saw his confidence grow. His bowling did make it difficult for the batsman to score off him, thus slowing down the run rate of the opposition. Mahd Khan: Had limited opportunities at the start of the season but this only saw his confidence grow. This was evident when he top scored with 29 in the last game. His bowling also continued to improve throughout the year and was in the thick of things out in the field. We all look forward to watching him in the future. Isaac Nicholls: Also known as “Mr Enthusiasm” - has great passion for the game and is a very handy all rounder. He was probably the unluckiest of our bowlers with his well flighted . Isaac is always looking to improve his game and we all look forward to watching his progress. Sam Simmons: Our “Mr Reliable”, opened the bowling and in the latter part opened the batting. He massed a total of 137 runs. His bowling figures of 44 overs, 13 maidens, 8 wickets for 83 runs, BBI 3/17; was certainly an outstanding achievement. Sam showed his maturity with taking over the captaincy at times, and led by example. Matt Smith: One of our senior players from last year, the comedian of our side, making it easy for all the new players to settle into the side. Matt’s time in the team last year saw his confidence grow and it showed throughout the season. Mitchell Smith: Another new member to the team after our break. Mitchell took an incredible catch at gully that lifted the team’s spirits. Batting down the order, Mitchell scored 19 runs in our final game. He is always full of energy and wanting to be in the thick of things. Ramsay Gomesz, Coach

Season 2016/17 saw 4 players enter the PJCA Representative program for the first occasion being Sam Capararo, Luke Anderson, Kyuss Stewart and Mitchell Smith. A hard intensive pre-season training program with 3 competitive trials against Northern Districts, Hornsby and Manly saw the team gel together nicely with everybody having clear and defined roles within the team for the season ahead. However losses in round 1 to Illawarra (10/204 to 8/167), round 2 to Manly (7/258 to 7/129), and round 3 to Sutherland (5/166 to 4/170) saw our early season trial momentum quickly eroded, and our Christmas break could not come quickly enough. However the break was just want the team needed, with all 12 players rejuvenated and keen to finish the season on a positive note. Our round 4 match against Northern District saw the boys set 5/249 after 50 overs, with Northern District limping to 5/174 after their overs. Round 5 against Georges River saw the team travel to Beverly Hills playing in 40 degree temperatures. The team bowled accurately and fielded exceptionally well which saw Georges River restricted to 10/149 after 50 overs. Our openers then went in and finished the match quickly with a dominating 0/153 run down in just 22 overs. Round 6 saw the Central Coast set Penrith 112 after being bowled out in an over reduced match against the Central Coast because of temperatures in the high 30’s. Penrith went into bat and were able to pass the Central Coast total in the 38th over.

Page 60 After 0 wins from 3 matches, the teams fight and determination saw them climb back to a respectable and hard fought 3 wins from 6 matches. This saw us draw an away play off against Manly for 5th place. This was the third occasion these 2 sides had played this season (trial and round 2), with both sides familiar with each other’s strengths and weaknesses. After winning the toss Penrith had no hesitation in batting. However, Manly through exceptionally tight bowling and desperate fielding restricted Penrith to 112 from 50 overs. Manly then went into bat and passed our total in the 38th over, seeing us finish 6th from 13. Not a bad recovery. Whilst all 12 players contributed throughout the season, and who were led well by Liam both on and off the field, the highlights of the season were Oscar’s thre 50’s totalling 234 runs at 46.80 and Lachlan’s last ball 100 not out against Georges River with a season total of 218 runs at 36.33. Will’s 5 for 21, total of 13 wickets at 10:46 was as well as Kyuss leg spin bowling taking 9 wickets best of 3/23 at 18:46. On behalf of the boys I would like to thank our Manager Christine Sultana who had everything organised and was such a great support throughout the season. Special thanks to the parents who provided exceptional support for the boys, Christine and myself throughout the season. The off field atmosphere you created, I have no doubt contributed to the boys strong finish to the season. Thank you all very much. Brendan Bayliss, Coach

This season saw a lot of firsts for this team. We welcomed new Representative players Ryan Freeman, Will Broadhead, Hayden Adams and Kobe McFadgean, along with a new team captain Nicholas Watson. Also new amongst the team was our Coach Brock and Manager Donna. A withdrawal of a team member early on into the training season saw us welcome Caleb Joyce in to our team. Our 2 trials for the boys against Manly and Hornsby gave them the opportunity of a taste of things to come for the rep season ahead. Both trial games were very close and the Penrith boys were very unlucky to not come away with the win on both occasions. A third trial would have benefited the boys but unfortunately this was cancelled. Round 1 vs Canterbury Wests Our first game was at home and we welcomed Canterbury Wests. Canterbury won the toss and sent us in to bat. On a warm day the runs started slowly, but we were determined to post a great score that Canterbury found hard to chase. Dyson batted beautifully on a dry pitch and top scored with 36 followed by Rahul on 24. As lunch drew close, we were unlucky to lose our umpire Dennis with an injury after being struck by the ball. The game was stopped as we awaited the ambulance and Dennis was taken away. The Penrith boys finished all out for 166. After lunch, we unfortunately did not have an umpire so relied heavily on parents to complete the 2nd half of the day. Sending Canterbury in to bat, our bowlers took aim and they batters started to crumble, it was looking promising that a win was coming our way. Best bowling was Nicholas 3/44, Hayden 2/24

Page 63 and Ryan 2/24. Our fielding was tight and the talk was loud, a few calls went either way but on the last over of the last ball, they hit a 4 and we unfortunately lost the game. Canterbury finished with 9/167. Thank you to Bailey Tebbutt for filling in as our wicket keeper and taking 2 wonderful catches. Round 2 vs Manly Round 2 had the Penrith boys travel to Harbord Park to verse Manly. This was going to be a tough game for the boys as we had previously lost a tight match in the trials, so the boys were out for redemption. On what was a very hot and sticky day, Penrith won the toss and elected to bat first. Dyson and Nathan started well to get the runs ticking over, but a few quick wickets saw Penrith run out of time, only batting 41.2 overs and scoring 6/143. Best of the batters were Dyson with 41 and Hayden on 31. After lunch in the full heat saw Penrith come out to bowl. Manly had a win in their sights as a few catches went down and a few misfields saw runs quickly come about. After a quick coaches chat at drinks the boys pumped up and fielding improved with Kobe and Dyson taking 2 catches. Manly ended up with a win scoring 8/145. Best bowlers today were Rahul 2/22, Hayden 2/15 and Raymond 2/10. .Round 3 vs Sutherland This game was our last for the year before we had a break for the Christmas / New Year. The boy’s heads were a little low going into this game having no wins on the board as yet. A great team talk by Coach Brock picked up their spirits and the boys were ready for a great game. We won the toss and put Sutherland into bat. Sutherland started well, runs started to come quickly but our bowlers picked it up a notch with Rahul 3/24, Kobe 2/12 and Oscar 1/14. This saw Sutherland all out for 163. A big chase was needed by our openers but unfortunately today was not our day. Wickets fell very cheaply and a loss looked immanent. Best of the batters were Will on 29 and Nathan on 15. Penrith were all out for 117. Round 4 vs Camden Returning from the Christmas break saw the boys ready and pumped for a win against Camden. Camden won the toss and elected to bat. The talk was loud on the field and the support from the sidelines was fantastic. Camden started strong and runs began to fill the board. A few misfields lead to some unwanted 4’s before a team talk at drinks changed the boy’s attitudes. Great bowling by Nicholas who snagged 4/24 and Hayden 2/14. Great team work from Oscar and Raymond saw a fantastic run out in the field. This was definitely a different Penrith team, who bowled Camden out for 138 (47.2 overs). Our opening batters came out strong knowing that they had a job to do, and they did. Dyson and Ryan opened the batting and runs came from everywhere. Ryan top scoring with his first ever rep half century, 53no and supporting him was Dyson with a great 34. The team’s first win of the season and very much deserved. The boys ended up with 3/141 after only 24.3 overs. Round 5 vs Illawarra On our last home game of the 2016/17 season, and coming off a great win the weekend before, the boys were keen to get out onto the field to tackle Illawarra. The toss was won by Illawarra and they elected to bat first. A great start to our bowling saw Oscar take a caught and bowl off the opener which then saw the remainder of the team crumble. Runs were few and far between but Penrith took it up another notch and got the job done. Bowling and fielding was perfect for this game. Best of the bowling was Oscar 3/12, Kobe 3/18, Nicholas 2/16 and both Jed and Nathan 1 wicket each. Two awesome catches in the field by Rahul today ended Illawarra’s batting, all out for 150. After lunch our boys went in aiming high for another win on the board. Our openers struggled against their bowlers, as we lost 2 quick wickets. In came Hayden who batted beautifully and secured his first half century in reps with a score of 58, Nicholas followed on with a great score of 47no and Jed 11no, to

Page 64 take out our 2nd win of the season with a score of 151 (off 42.2 overs). A great effort by the whole team today. Round 6 vs Central Coast This weekend saw a majority of the team travel to Ettalong for a weekend away of team bonding before the game on the Sunday. What was the hottest weekend recorded in Penrith, with all games cancelled on the Saturday, it gave the families a chance to arrive earlier and spend more time together. This was a great opportunity for the boys and their families to relax with food and drinks before the last competition game. Penrith won the toss on this very hot day and sent Central Coast in to bat. Central Coast started strong but a few quick wickets saw them start to struggle. Our boys dug deep in the field, Caleb taking two amazing catches. After a few more wickets fell, Central Coast ended up on 7/123 off 39.2 overs. Best of the bowlers were Rahul 2/22 and Jed 2/12, with Oscar taking 1/17. After a delicious lunch provided by the Central Coast families, Penrith believed that 123 was an achievable score / target to chase but unfortunately it was not our day. Our top order crumbled which put a lot of pressure on the middle order. Wickets fell very cheap. Nathan took the reign with 18 on one leg whilst Jed stayed in there and top scored with 33. Unfortunately we fell short this game and ended up all out for 98. Round 7 vs Canterbury / West (Placement game) As we prepared for our last game of the season, we were versing Canterbury/Wests at their home ground, which would be a tough match. The toss was won by Penrith and we chose to bowl first. We sent Canterbury in with high hopes that this was our match to win. Canterbury’s openers came in and the runs started to flow quickly, a few dropped catches and misfields saw the boy’s heads fall low. A talking too at the drinks break saw once again a change in attitude. Fielding was tight and talk was at a high. A wicket to Oscar saw the opening batsman walk and the Canterbury team slowly collapsed. Best of the bowlers were Oscar 3/22, Nicholas 2/18 and Caleb 1/19. With our stand in wicket keeper Bailey Tebbutt (who forgot his whites for the game), made up for it with two amazing catches. Canterbury ended up with 8/156. Chasing a big score did not worry our opening batsmen; they went in with their heads held high. Two quick wickets fell before Ryan and Hayden got the game going and the runs started to come quick and fast. Ryan scoring an unbeaten 62, partnered by Hayden on 36. Penrith gallantly chased down the score ending the day with 5/157 at 42.1 overs. A great end to the season which saw the Penrith Under 14 Presidents Cup team win 3 of their 7 matches, and finish 6th overall on the leaderboard. In conclusion, I would like to thank the players. You are a great group of boys and all have great individual talents for this game of cricket. You proudly wore your baggy black at each game and represented Penrith Junior Cricket Club proudly. You have the skills required to continue at this level, keep your mind on your game, your training and believe in yourself. A special mention and thank you to Bailey Tebbutt (Under 13 DCA player) who came up and filled in for our team on 2 occasions. We can’t thank you enough for your contribution. A very big thank you to all of the parents, without your efforts the boys would not get to training and to the games. Your continuing support makes this happen and you should all feel very proud of the young men you have raised. The Sunday home lunches were truly a great team effort. Congratulations on bringing two opposing teams and their families together with such a great spread of foods, which was enjoyed by all, and commented on at every home game from the opposing Coach and Manager. Thank you to the scorers and those that assisted with umpiring, you make the games go ahead by giving your time. Lastly to Donna, what an exceptional job you did. The behind the scenes and organisational efforts that no one knows of or can view is tremendous and I hope you enjoyed the roller coaster ride that managing rep cricket is. The late nights and early rises especially with some personal circumstances just shows your character. It was an honour to work beside you and it wouldn't have been as successful without you. We both learnt on the run (slow jog) and I safely assume we did a great job.

Page 65 I look forward to working with the team again next season, train hard boys, enjoy your winter / off season and see you all soon Brock McFadgean, Coach

This season we welcomed three newcomers to rep cricket: Bradley Webb, Jayke Searle and Dylan Barlow. After a very successful trial game against Hornsby we were eager to get our season started – our first season on turf. Round 1 vs Sutherland at Cronulla Having elected to bat Sutherland were on the ropes with a wicket falling in the first over. We had them 5/53 at one point but allowed them to drift away to 7/183 with some sloppy short bowling. In our innings we failed to adjust to the low flat pitch conditions missing far too many deliveries or hitting catches straight to fielders out of frustration. Mitchell Lothian showed great patience late in the innings but we eventually fell 50 runs short. Mitchell Lothian 44, Kane Jackson 29 and 2/27, Emerson Rovere 2/28 Round 2 vs Central Coast at home We hosted Central Coast at McQuade Oval in Windsor. With its fast outfield and flat pitch we hoped to pile on the runs after winning the toss. One of our batsmen, Lochlan Watts, took full advantage of the conditions to compile 75 runs individually and give us something to defend. We found it difficult adjusting to turf pitches as we failed to bowl a good length. We didn’t trouble their batsmen who went on to win by 8 wickets. Lochlan Watts 75, Jack Noble 2/22 Round 3 vs Manly at Curl Curl

Page 68 Last years Premiers are always a tough team to beat. Emerson Rovere cleaned up their opener on the second ball of the match but our joy was short lived when Manly combined for 3 x 50+ partnerships while their captain compiled an unbeaten century. With 3/243 on the board Manly gave themselves every opportunity to win the match. A 50 run opening stand between Bradley Webb and Aidan Rowe was our only resistance as Manly secured victory without us reaching even half their total. Bradley Webb 34, Emerson Rovere 2/37 Round 4 vs Northern Districts at home Back at McQuade Oval in Windsor we were sent in to bat by Northern Districts. Bradley Webb was looking strong and Tom Gawthorne enjoyed an extended stay in the middle. For the first time we were not bowled out. We finished with 8/176. Our opening bowlers built loads of pressure but were unlucky not to take an early wicket. Jayke Searle and Dylan Barlow then came on to bowl their best spells of the summer claiming 3/15 between them with some tight and full pitched bowling. At 4/75 Northern Districts looked settled into their run chase. Emerson threw the ball to Allan Hope who delivered THE best spell of bowling all season with 4/9 on his way to securing victory for Penrith. Tom Gawthorne 36, Bradley Webb 28 , Allan Hope 4/9, Jayke Searle 2/10 Round 5 vs Hornsby at Berowra Berowra Oval has a fast couch grass outfield that had our batsmen licking their lips. We bowled first and dropped the fielders back. Hornsby took advantage with lots of quick singles in the opening overs but it wasn’t long before their captain was brilliantly run out taking one too many chances. Hornsby made 8/185 which seemed like a par score for the quick ground. We lost some early wickets but Bradley Webb was solid at the top of the order. Allan Hope and Jayden Geering smashed boundaries while Mitchell Lothian worked the ball around nicely. We won by 6 wickets with 14 overs to spare. Allan Hope 55, Bradley Webb 38, Jayden Geering 36*, Mitchell Lothian 33*, Bradley Webb 2/23, Lochlan Watts 2/31 Round 6 FINAL vs North Shore at home Our last match would be our first home game located in the Penrith region. We won the toss and batted first at Bill Ball Oval. North Shore's bowling was untidy but we couldn’t take advantage which frustrated our batsmen. We lacked patience as wickets tumbled. Unfortunately we were bowled out in 32 overs with only 102 runs to defend. Emerson Rovere tried to lead his team to victory with some good bowling but it wasn’t enough as North Shore showed patience in chasing down our total at a steady and controlled pace. Aidan Rowe 27, Emerson Rovere 2/14 We wanted to win half our matches but fell short. To the boys, you showed fighting spirit in the field and came together as a unit to deliver a few victories for each other. We only had a few commanding performances with the bat (which always converted to victories) so we’ll walk away from this season knowing that there is room for improvement in our batting if we are to seek greater success on turf wickets. To our captain Emerson Rovere, thank you for guiding the boys and leading by example. You have grown into the role by making tactical decisions and supporting your team mates. Thank you to our Manager John Lothian who provided me with a sounding board and who always ensured that game days were trouble-free. To all of our parents a HUGE thank you for your support. Your contribution with scoring, umpiring, and hosting lunches is genuinely appreciated by John, myself and the team. Col Rowe, Coach

After a very successful season in U15s, our team would see significant changes. With four players gaining selection in the DCA it left a big gap in our top order with our openers being moved up and our game winning all rounder. This meant four had to be placed in the PC side from DCA. Unfortunately due to the timing of PC one player had to withdraw while another felt that PC was too low an option for him. Whilst disappointing it paved the way for the 2 shadow players, giving us 5 debutants to PJCA rep cricket in their final year of juniors. It was looking to be a tough season after our previous success but I was excited to have the new boys as they would give us a renewed energy without expectation. The team came together and as in previous seasons a big emphasis was placed on team bonding. So a game of foot golf was arranged and the whole team got to mix and start the process of being a part of something special. This bond would grow through the season and some really close friendships were formed. The boys turned up for training and games each week with heaps of energy and put in big efforts to improve their game. It was easy coaching a team that were there because they love the game. The season would start well winning our first three rounds prior to the Christmas break. Round 1 v Sutherland at McQuade Park, Windsor Won the toss and batted on a well prepared ground. We posted 8/193 off our 50 overs. Harry (36) and Logan (6) opened the innings and looked solid before Logan was caught. Lennon knocked up a quick (20) Justin M (24) looked comfortable as they all had good partnerships with Harry before he fell with

Page 71 the score on 162. Justin G (37) and Callum (34) blasted us to around 180 and the tail chipped in to get us 193. Bowling was going to be our strong suit and all the bots chipped in with some tight spells while sharing the wickets but it was a brilliant 5/19 wicket haul from Callum that would reduce a decent Sutherland batting side to all out in the last over for 139. Round 2 v Hornsby at Berowra Oval, Berowra Hornsby won the toss and certainly corrected the score after being rolled for just 48 in the corresponding game last season. They amassed a massive 9/207 off their 50 on a fairly fast outfield. Once again our bowlers for the most part were very tidy with one of the new recruits Nathan taking 4/29 with his leggies. Reece was economical as always with 2/22 off 10. Luke 1/9 bowled well without luck with Lennon 1/29 picking up a wicket whilst Justin M grabbed a run out. Trying out a new opening pair for this game with Lachlan (6) joining Logan (27), Lochie fell to bring Harry (98*) to the crease with both boys bashing their bowlers all over the park. Logan would once again be caught when looking to go big. Lennon was busy from the first ball getting a quick fire (17) before departing. Justin McColl (34*) played well to pass the score with Harry only 3 wickets down and 5 overs to spare. The greatest run chase I've had the pleasure to see in 13 years of coaching juniors. The boys did not panic at any stage. Round 3 V Manly at Rance Oval, Werrington Finally after 2 seasons the boys would get to play on their home ground and made the most of the privilege. Winning the toss and batting first, we stacked on 7/215 against everyone's arch enemy in all sport. A bit of confusion seen Lachlan (3) run out early which brought Harry (88) out to join Logan ( 30) the pair lifted the scoring before Logan once again hauled out to square leg, going big. Callum (34*) kept the board ticking over with some good running between the wickets accompanied by Ryley (21*) with some big hitting. Taking the field on a typical Western Sydney warm day to defend over 200 was not bad but we certainly couldn't rest on the total we had. The boys were told to control the pace of the game and put pressure on them by keeping it full and tight which they did for the majority of the innings. Having a dubious tie with Manly last season was in the back of our mind so we wanted to make sure of it this time. We kept them to 10/170 with Luke 3/32 finally being rewarded for his great form. Justin G and Reece would take 2 each while Lachlan and Lennon would grab each. Ryley was scaring the batters with extreme pace but was unlucky not to have a few to his name. Another convincing victory, 3 from 3 heading to the break. Round 4 v Central Coast at Rance Oval, Werrington Unfortunately Newcastle withdrew from the comp which would mean playing the U15 team with the bye on that round. We won the toss and batted again on another hot day. The word I got was that Central coast were a very good side and I have to say they were extremely good. They bowled to their field all day and ripped through our line up without anyone other than Logan (108) troubling the scorers. It's the only century of this age group over the whole 6 years. He fell with our score on 145 as we only made 154 with no one else reaching double figures. I feel we may have entered this game a bit too lightly even though I explained how good they would be. Our day would get worse with our bowlers trying their best without luck and Central coast cruising to victory in the 45th over only 4 down. Ryley (2/24) once again had them jumping around with Lachlan (2/28) taking the other wickets. Not a great start to the new year. Round 5 v NW Hurricanes at Charles McLaughlin Reserve When we looked at the pitch on arrival I had never seen a wicket like it and didn't know what it would do. It looked worse than one of the pitches prepared in my back yard over the last few months. Given this we would win the toss and see what it was doing by sending the Hurricanes into bat. Surprisingly the pitch was true and had good carry through to the keeper. Reece 3/17 and Luke 1/13 were on fire in the opening spell on a very hot day but we would not see our first wicket until the score was 75. Ryley 2/32 was once again bowling fast with good control but a bit short to the left handed opener who

Page 72 just kept picking him off. Due to Jack's injury we had to call on Noah 1/28 and he didn't disappoint! He hit the deck with great energy and was visibly enjoying his return to rep cricket. At 5/139 and a dozen or so overs left with wickets in hand I thought we would be in for a big chase. However the boys really stood up. Justin G 2/10 would find his mojo again, troubling the batters along with return spells of our top four to rip through the tail, taking their last 6 wickets for just 13 runs. Our run chase would start very poorly by losing Logan and Harry in the first two overs. Justin M (28) showed good patience early but soon tired in the heat dancing down the wicket and being . Callum (15) was elevated to #4 after his previous two innings. Lennon (23) was solid but played across the line to be the only one bowled. Justin G (15) seemed to be ready for a big score until he like 9 of our batters gave the opposition catching practice. A nervous run out and a dubious LBW would see us fall short of the total by 48 runs with 5 overs left. It's not how we wanted to head into the GF replay of 2015/16 against the same team but it wasn't all bad and we knew what needed work. GF v NW Hurricanes at Castlewood Reserve, Castle Hill Once again we would meet the Hurricanes in the top 2 playoff and our main objective was not to let the umpire decide the outcome as in last season’s final. We won the toss again only this time the pitch looked a treat and we decided to bat and put the pressure on them. Logan (61) and Lachlan (17) would reunite at the top and got us off to a solid start before Lachlan fell with our score on 35. Harry (30) and Logan were hitting the ball hard with a partnership of 81 before Harry paddled one to be caught on the short 45m mid wicket boundary. A severe case of déjà vu souls appear as our remaining batters would continue the catching practice from our last game. In the end we could only post 8/166 and it was a definite a 200+ ground. The boys took the field with the belief they could contain them and win the game. Our bowlers kept to the plan and created opportunities but a few dropped catches, one of them in the 2nd over would end up being the catalyst for the remainder of their innings. More catches would go to ground and some just falling short. The pressure built and showed as we started to misfield and give away extra runs through overthrows. As the total drew closer we found some extra spark and took 3 quick wickets when the score was in the 130s. The pressure had turned on them and we were back in the game. This would stop when their cowboy came out and swung the bat like an under 10s bully and it came off, passing our score 7 wickets down and four overs spare. Although we didn't get the cookies it was great to see how hard the team fought till the end and how they conducted themselves after the loss. These young men have made me proud to be their coach and even made me feel like one of the boys. They always gave me their undivided attention and showed respect to the opposition, umpires, parents, Tim and myself at all times. Training was never a chore and we always had plenty of laughs while still working hard to improve their skills. The love they have for the game is obvious and I look forward to watching their progress as they continue into seniors. I would just like to comment on the perception of some that the President’s Cup players are weaker. This is not true especially in this age group. The difference comes down to opportunity and I believe that anyone of these boys given the chance would do as well if not better than those that were afforded the opportunity of playing DCA. This team has proven themselves by making the GF. Some people go through their entire sporting life without making a final let alone winning one. Hold your heads high boys you've done yourself and your families proud! I'll take this opportunity to thank the parents for their dedication in getting the boys to training/games and supplying lunches for not only this season but for some it's been the past 6 years. These are the things all of our children will appreciate more when they get older and have kids of their own (God help us!). Thank you also for allowing Tim and I to coach your sons without interference or judgement. It was also great to see the parents get along so well as this is a big part of having a successful harmonious team. Thank you also to the PJCA committee for giving me the honour of coaching such a talented and enthusiastic group of young men.

Page 73 After 13 years of coaching I will certainly miss what it has given me. I have made plenty of friends and I'm pretty sure some that aren't fussed on me but I can honestly say that I have definitely enjoyed every minute of coaching all the players I have been lucky enough to help. I wish you all the best in your cricket post juniors and hope to see you around the traps. Love the great game!!!!! Darren McMillan, Coach

RON ARENDTS SHIELD (NEWCASTLE, UNDER 11) We arrived in sunny Newcastle after the festive season with plenty of enthusiasm for the cricket that was ahead of us. On the first day we were scheduled to make our T20 debut in two games vs the Newcastle Chairman’s XI and Central Coast DCA. The second day was to be a 40 over game against Hornsby. Game 1 we won the toss and batted. Liam Darlington top scored with 25*, Leo Astill made a hard hitting 20. We ended our 20 overs with 84 runs on the board. In reply Newcastle scored the runs in the 18th over. Blake Hodges and Mahad Ezad taking 1 wicket each. Our second game we also won the toss and batted for a total of 70. Leo 17 and James Lennox 14 were our top scorers. Central Coast scored the runs in 16 overs with Ben Minney, James Lennox and Harkeerat Dhaliwal taking 1 wicket each. In our 3rd game we came up against the eventual finalists. We won the toss and elected to bat, but unfortunately we were bowled out for only 63 runs. Harveer Dhaliwal top scored with 12 also Ethan Haldane scored 11 runs. With only 63 to defend we only managed to take 1 wicket. Our 4th match we took on Newcastle President’s XI. Again we won the toss and Liam Darlington top scored with 27 also Liam Knight chipped in with 26 in our total of 8/139. We took to the field with great enthusiasm and our bowlers and fielders combined well for an 8 run victory. Ben Minney bowled well taking 2/2 off 5 overs and the Dhaliwal brothers combining for 2 wickets each. Some great catching and fielding by Fynn Carstens. Our last game in Newcastle was against Central Coast PCA. We lost the toss and were sent into the field. We fielded and bowled well and ended up bowling them out for 121 with Harveer Dhaliwal taking 3 wickets, James and Mahad taking 2 as well. We scored the runs in 27 overs with Leo Astill retiring on 50*. What a great tournament was had by all, and it was very well organised. I would like to thank Ben Minney and Harkeerat Dhakiwal for filling in for us. A special mention to all the parents for their assistance and support throughout the season. Mick Wilson, Manager

Page 85 LISMORE CARNIVAL (UNDER 12) The U/12's travelled to Lismore for what turned out to be a very well run and enjoyable carnival. The boys played some outstanding cricket all week, bonded as a team, and enjoyed each other’s company on and off the field. The team won 5 out of the 6 games to finish 5th overall. As we went there to have some fun, it was great to see all players getting a bat and bowl and taking their opportunities. Every boy managed to get a wicket at some stage during the course of the carnival. Kade Zammit received two man of the match medals, Brock Campbell, Bailey Bedford and Ritish Sethi all received one each, with some fantastic individual results. Round 1: Newcastle 5/62 defeated by Penrith 1/64 Round 2: Penrith 1/77 defeated Far North Coast Green 6/73 Round 3: Penrith 9/76 defeated Far North Coast Gold 8/68 Round 4: Illawarra 4/104 defeated Penrith 6/103 Semi-Final: Parramatta 10/61 defeated by Penrith 10/113 Grand-Final: Penrith 3/121 defeated Newcastle DCA 4/87 Thank you to Jack Gale, Sam Simmons and Cameron Gomesz from our Presidents Cup side for coming away with us, without you, the carnival would not of been possible to participate in. Thank you to all the parents for making the effort as well. I hope you enjoyed our bonding sessions, and to all the parents who got in helped me out during week, it was greatly appreciated. Blacktown All out 83 – Max Robertson 2/6, Aaron Stewart 2/23. The Under 13 DCA team had a mixed season after finishing our Sunday tournament with just the 2 wins and the boys set out to give this carnival their all, and that’s what they did; with a strong showing in all 4 games they were able to win all 4 and finish 3rd overall missing out for the main game by only percentages. It was a great finish to a season which was enjoyable to watch and coach and I know the boys will benefit from this experience. Congratulations to Max Becker 84 runs and Aiden Kells 82 runs for the tournament and to Aaron Stewart 9 wickets and Eli Hardy 6 wickets for the tournament and also Connor Potter-Jugovac with 5 catches equal most catches for the carnival. Thank you to all the parents for such a great week it’s great when all the families can get together and make the week one to remember. Thank you to Andy for cooking the BBQ making sure we all got fed and to Jean for washing the boys whites every night. Thank you to our manager Jill Sherwood for organizing everything for the week you have outdone yourself AGAIN. Hope to see you all next season Craig Kells, Coach

GRAEME MALCOLM SHIELD (NEWCASTLE, UNDER 14) After a successful DCA season, the boys headed off to Newcastle hoping to emulate that success. The task was going to be slightly tougher without our two opening bowlers Amrinder Singh and Brendon Daley who between them took 23 wickets in the DCA competition. The boys won their 3 group games comfortably against Hunter Valley, Camden and Newcastle. The game against Newcastle highlighted by temperatures in excess of 40 degrees reducing the game to 30 overs per innings. We played Manly in the semi-finals where we scored 137, Manly chasing it down with 2 overs to spare. This game was also played in 40 plus degrees temperatures In the playoff for the 3rd and 4th, the boys played North Shore, in what was a replay of the DCA grand final. Unfortunately, we just didn’t have enough runs on the board, and North Shore proved too strong once again. Congratulations must go to Jordan Watson and Flynn Caston who took out batsman and bowler of the tournament respectively. Jordan scoring 199 runs at an average of 66.33 and Flynn taking 11 wickets, highlighted by 6/21 against Camden. A big thank you to Nick Watson and Oscar Reardon who filled in for us, both of who improved with each game they played. Congratulations to the boys on an outstanding season, you have done both yourselves and the RJCA proud. Peter Tracey, Manager

Page 87 WALTER TAYLOR SHIELD (ARMIDALE, UNDER 15)

The U15’s travelled to Armidale to contest the Walter Taylor Shield. With a sense of determination we set out to defend the title earned by Penrith the previous year. A few of the boys were unavailable due to Green Shield duty, so some President’s Cup players were invited to join the squad for a week in the Northern Tablelands. Day 1. After a few days of rain the turf wickets were not ready for play so we all relocated to back up grounds. Our first match against the Sydney club team from West Pennant Hills saw us get out of the blocks with a flyer. Batting first, our middle order all pitched in to pound runs to all corners. Lovish Sethi hit a six that would have landed in the crowd at the MCG! Allan Hope (49), Jack Trezise (40), Mathew White (41) all contributed to our 234 runs. Emerson Rovere took 4/29 during an impressive spell of new ball bowling but the leg spin of Ben Bradshaw was the star of the day with figures of 5/14 from 10 overs. A convincing win saw us head back to the holiday park in high spirits. Day 2. In what was a first for the Walter Taylor Shield, we would compete in two T20 matches on the same day. Our first match at 9am was against Hunter Valley. Bowling first we dismissed them for 57 runs. Once again leg spin played a key role with Ben Bradshaw (2/3) and Zac Schultz (3/9) bowling great areas and proving to be unplayable. Jack Trezise (2/9) made no errors in his spell either. Our fielding was on point with two run outs and a handful of good catches. We chased their score in just 12 overs with Billy Stubbs (33*) leading the way. Time for some lunch and rest before returning to the Armidale Sportsground for a night T20. The evening match against Ballina was a fiercely contest game. Batting first Billy Stubbs (38) once again was the stand out batsman but was lacking support from the rest of the guys as the wicket began to slow down in the evening. We reached 80 from our 20 overs but it wasn’t going to be enough. Zac Schultz (2/26) and Aidan Rowe (2/10) were the pick of our bowlers as Ballina went on to surpass our total with 5 balls remaining.

Day 3. Our fourth match was against the local boys Armidale DCA. The sun was shining and the temperature was a delightful 25 degrees. Armidale won the toss and elected to bat. The ‘Spin Twins’ Zac Schultz (4/17) and Ben Bradshaw (3/24) tore through the opposition while Billy Stubbs turned his focus to bowling with impressive figures of 2/5. Captain Luke Gale (36) took charge of the run chase. We passed their 70 runs in just 19 overs but lost more wickets than we would have liked. After the match, and curious to learn our fate, we headed to The Armidale School to cheer for our friends from the Hunter Valley in the hope that they would beat our Sydney nemesis - Manly Warringah - and prevent them from taking our spot in the final. In the end our win was enough to earn a spot in the Big Show tomorrow.

Day 4. The FINAL. We faced off against an undefeated Camden Haven (aka Hastings DCA). We lost the toss and were asked to bat. At 4/37 we looked sketchy but Jack Trezise (46) joined Billy Stubbs (53) in a brilliant 80 run 4th wicket partnership that would help us reach 6/169 at the end of our 50 overs. What happened next we remarkable! We rolled Camden Haven inside 20 overs for 59. Ben Bradshaw (4/33) was clinical once again and Billy Stubbs (3/7), following his half century with the bat and took three key wickets. Billy Stubbs was aptly named Player of the Final by the Armidale DCA President. The Walter Taylor Shield would return to Penrith two years running.

Walter Taylor Shield Player of the Tournament, Ben Bradshaw Ben Bradshaw richly deserved his crown as Player of the Tournament as voted by the organising committee. Billy Stubbs, Jack Trezise and Zac Schultz could equally have earned such accolades for their stellar performances all week. Our captain Luke Gale, and vice captain Billy Stubbs, stepped up and led the way. They demonstrated strong leadership and applied match winning tactics all week. Great job boys! I’d like to thank the parents and families that made the trek up to the Northern Tablelands and for supporting the boys with loads of encouragement and helping with scoring, photographs, umpiring and the preparing the celebrations at the Armidale Holiday Park. We’d like to thank the team for allowing us to temporarily join the squad and share in your success in what was a fantastic carnival trip that will be etched in our memories for many years. Coil Rowe and John Lothian
