The Roncalli community began ringing in the Christmas season by attending the Roncalli High School Christmas concerts on December 4th when the concert band, jazz band and orchestra, led by director Ms. Kathy Peach, Juniors Abby Conway and Lilly Secrest entertained at 7:00 PM. REBELS NAMED RISING STARS SOUTH DEANERY QUEST FOR EXCELLENCE

Four juniors have been named Indiana "Rising Stars" in the most recent publication of the Indiana Association of School Principals (IASP). Ryan Flick, Andrew Gangstad, William Hawkins and Ryan Flick Grace Whitaker were selected from William Hawkins among the class of 2020 for this honor based on a combination of academic achievement, standardized test score results and school/ Super Quiz Champions First Place in Science community involvement. Senior Nathan Gramman was selected into Marian University’s San Damiano Scholars Program. This scholarship program is for students interested in becoming leaders in parishes, schools, healthcare and not-for-profits. Students selected in the program participate in specific theology courses, retreats, monthly community meetings, service, internships and pilgrimage opportunities. In response to the schools growing diversity, Roncalli High School launched in March 2018 a student outreach program to help our BAWI KIWANIS CIRCLE OF VALOR AWARD diverse student population feel a sense of belonging. BORING WINS LORENZANO SCHOLARSHIP Freshman Celia Boring is the recipient of the Private John Lorenzano Memorial Scholarship. She receives $1,200 toward Roncalli tuition. This is the seventh year the Lorenzano family has provided this scholarship for a student with a parent who is a firefighter. Private Lorenzano was killed in the line of duty February 5, 1992 responding to a fire at the Indianapolis Athletic Club. Boring’s essay on “What makes you proud that your parent is a firefighter?” was selected over several entries. Boring’s father, Jay Boring, has been with the Wayne Township Fire Department for 12 years and was the 2015 Firefighter of the Year.

He chose to go to C9 because it offered specific instruction in his chosen career field, criminal justice. He is the son of Pamela and Erwin Salazar. Erwin, who is also a board member at Roncalli, said that Lorenzo, “LJ,” was the motivator in the decision to send their son to C9. He liked the technical aspect of using simulators, being hands- on and said that LJ has always been interested in law enforcement. The courses at C9 are taught by retired law enforcement personnel. Lorenzo Salazar practices handcuffing techniques. Erwin is an Aviation Instructor at C9. He teaches courses such as “Aviation Flight,” “Aviation Operations” and other courses which are dual credit classes with Ivy Tech. Lorenzo said, “I feel that C9 has been very beneficial to me. The coursework is very hands-on and offers a lot more than just traditional schoolwork.
