Range and Effect The angle of the spigots is•varied to give ranges from 220 yards for the foremost, to 100 yards for the aftermost round. Fpr the Mark II and II* round this has been increased to 415 to 335 yards. The passage cleared is about 360 ft. long by 24 ft. wide, the nearest edge of the lane cleared being 95 yards from the firing point.

The discrepancies between homogeneous and of vehicle loads is due to considerations of stability. The balance cannot be made up by the addition of stores. They are dependent on all ballast tanks being completely dry. If any ballast is carried or if any ballast tanks are used for fresh water, a corresponding weight must be deducted from the cargo that can be embarked. The following ballast tanks have been fitted to carry fresh water:— L.C.T. (3). Wing tank 1 or 2 112 tons. L.C.T. (4). Wing tank 3 18.5 tons. In order to correct list, it is necessary to counterflood the corresponding tank on the other side. When it is required to carry extra fresh water for the use of the troops embarked, the following deduc tions must be made from the maximum cargo that can be carried. L.C.T. (3). Wing tanks 1 and 2, 24 tons. L.C.T. (4). Wing tanks 3 and 4, 37 tons. 2. Maximum tank and ITT stowages are:— Cromwell I. Churchill. Sherman V. Valentine. 3-ton Lorries.
