H □ PESCHIANNA

Foreword Once again as the door closes on another school year at Hopedale High, we look bock to a year full of both sod and happy memories. For the Freshmen it opened the door to a bright new world. For the Sophomores and Juniors the year was full of work and gay times. For the Seniors it is the final "good bye". But for all it is the end of another year.

So these memories will not be lost or forgotten, the Hopeschianno has attempted to capture and record these memories. It can serve as the key in later years as we look through it, to open the door of our memories of that delightful year at Hopedale High in 1958-59. HOPEDALE HIGH SCHOOL

To the Members of the Graduating C lass of 1959:

Th is letter comes to you with my warmest congratulations for a job we 11 done. With this I extend sincere wishes for your success in the future. Your high school diploma is a long sought for prize. In the past it signified to the world that you were now ready to assume your duties os an informed, educated citizen. Not so today. In this fast moving age, our high school background can only hope t; serve as the key that unlocks the doors of higher learning. It has been our purpose here at Hopedale to fully develop the potentiolities of the individual student. Each of you has within your grasp the ability to become a positive force in your section of society. Some of you are capable of becoming a dynamic force in this age of jets, rockets, and satellites.

Let me close with this lost, most important admonition. As you seek your place • JAMES O'CONNELL WILLIAM LONG CLARENCE MERRYMAN in this great adventure, never fail to recognize our Divine Creator and His plan for President your life. Remember with Him all things are possible. With the help of God in this great land of ours, you can do anything you want to if you want to badly enough .

Sincerely yours,

It Lester A. Hickman •

25 24 Class Prophecy After long gruelling years as a secretary, I, Jean Penoyer and my roommate Peggy Kenton a re-(tired~ nurse Tired but happy to see us, Bob and Carl came along willingly but we had to drag Wayne . decided we certainly deserve a much needed vacation so we packed our bags and headed for the nearest airport We finally reached the stadium. As the game progressed, who did we spot but Rich Rensi and Larry Wohnhas. to take off for parts unknown. It was obvious that they were "Co" head coaches for the Dragons. After Hie game we presented ourselves to them by flying over bleachers and people right down into the field. As we boarded the airplane we were pleasantly surprised to see that the stewardess was none other than Kay Stringer. After we were com.fortably_ seated she informed that our pilots were Ronald Carlon and Eddie Pizzino. Hours after everyone else had left the stadium, a group of happy '59ers also left, having talked all the way Since we had no definite plans and when Kay informed us the next stop was Hopedale and also a change of crew, and still going strong. We decided to have another celebration. Someone suggested going to the night club we decided to get off there. They said they knew nothing else to do that day and Ronald suggested that he get where two famous teen-age idols were making a much demanded appearance. We al I agreed, but Sandy said she his pickup truck and-take us around town. . • • . couldn't go to a place like that with her hair like it was and in her uniform. We decided right then and there that our next stop would be a beauty parlor and dress shop. We found a beauty parlor that guaranteed to give Roaring down the street and engrossed in memories of our high school days we swerved 1ust in time to avoid 11 hitting a stalled car and banged instead into a water hydrant. It wasn't a h.ard jolt but made a lot of noise which the "Best fuzz-buzz there ever was. We found something else too. Shirley Grabits was the operator and Sally brought on one of those nosy motorcycle cops from out of nowhere. The angry policeman stormed toward us load DiBacco and Joyce Davenport were her assistants. Sandy's hair looks nice now. 42 43 The Harrison County Class For Retarded Children

FIRST ROW: Charolette Ooyton, Lois Sinfield, Patricia Christian, Jan Campbell, Midge Madzia. SECOND ROW: Cynthia Browning, Moe Selle Neilson, Janet Dickinson, Larry Miller, Tim Sexton. TEACHERS: M.n. Jean Browning, Mrs. Margaret Marris.

The Harrison County County Council for Retarded Children was organized in 1957 and the first class was located in Cadiz. This year the class is fortunate to be located in the Hopedale school. It is in session from 9 A.M. to 2 P.M., Monday through Friday during the regular school term. The maximum enrollment is twelve. Mrs. tv\orgaret Morris is the teacher; Mr , Jean Browning is her assistant.

These children have been excluded from public schools because of IQ's of 50 or below . Since private and pubI ic residential institut ions are overflowing, educational opportunity to these children and many others has been denied.

Because of improved, intelligent understanding and acceptance of sub- normal children, classes are being established to meet their personal and social needs.

We thank you for making this class possible by your interest and support.
