2006 Field Hockey 1 SEASON OUTLOOK

.Having posted double-digit win totals in consecutive seasons for the first time in a decade, the high-scoring Saint Joseph’s University field hockey team has its sights set on an Atlantic 10 title and first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance in 2006. All-America candidate senior Nicole Antonini headlines a list of 14 returning letterwinners, including seven starters, who give SJU a shot at its first title since 1995. Among the nation’s premier scorers, Antonini is equally adept at finding the back of the cage or setting up her teammates. The two-time All-Mid-Atlantic Region selection already ranks second in career points (96) at SJU and stands third all-time in assists (22) and goals (37). The three-time All-League choice could become just the third SJU player to capture All-America honors if she comes close to matching her prolific 2004 and 2005 seasons. She tied for the team lead with 13 goals and topped the squad with 30 points as a junior. While Antonini accumulates much of the attention, she receives plenty of support from classmates Lauren Luft and Maureen Casserly. Michelle Finegan Head Coach Delaware ‘84 - 10th Season Since returning in 2003 for her second stint as the head coach of the Saint Joseph's University field hockey team, things could not have gone much better for Michelle Finegan. The winningest coach in SJU history, she has taken the Crimson and Gray to three-straight A-10 Tournament appearances, guided SJU to back-to-back 10-win seasons, captured Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year honors (2003) for the second time in her career and recorded her 100th victory as a head coach ( vs. La Salle, October 19, 2003). She returned to Hawk Hill after spending seven seasons as the head coach at Lehigh University. 2006 Field Hockey 5 FINNESEY FIELD HAWK PROFILES

Laid out in a natural bowl in the center of Saint Joseph’s campus, Finnesey Field has been the home of Hawk field hockey since its inception in 1975. Originally constructed for football and opened in 1929 with plans for an eventual 70,000-seat stadium, the field has under- gone numerous changes over the years. In 1960, both the original grandstand and hillside seating were eliminated for the construction of Villiger (now Post) Hall/Bluett Theater. That construction neces- sitated raising the field’s level some five feet above its earlier location. In 1990 the facili- ty’s usage was greatly expanded with the installation of artificial turf. That expansion continued in 1994 when lights were added. During the summer of 2001, the field received a facelift when new turf was DIRECTIONS TO FINNESEY FIELD installed. Fueled by a high-scoring attack led by All-Mid-Atlantic Region selections Nicole Antonini and Katelyn O’Brien, the Saint Joseph’s BARBADOS TRIP field hockey team continued to assert itself on the national scene in March 2006 2005. Each player received club teams, First Team All-Atlantic 10 and All-Philadelphia honors for their play posting results in addition to garnering All-Region accolades. While the tandem of Antonini and O’Brien received the bulk of the postseason honors, juniors Lauren Luft and Maureen Casserly and senior Hilary Moody proved also capable of providing punch. A feisty winger, Luft continued to put up impressive numbers, often working in perfect tandem with Antonini. The All-Atlantic 10 and All-Philadelphia choice finished third on the team in both goals (9) and points (25), while topping the team in assists (7). Moody, a stalwart on the Hawks’ backline, anchored the team defensively, ranking seventh nationally in defensive saves. The Honorable Mention All-Atlantic 10 pick was also a weapon in corner situations finishing with nine points. Casserly added three goals and five assists for 11 points. Joining Moody to form the foundation of an underrated defen- sive line were sophomores Rebecca Cunfer and Katie Young.
