Press Release MAY 13, 2017 Renault e.dams dominate the Monaco ePrix Renault e.dams leave the Principality with a return to the winning feeling: from pole to victory, Séb Buemi scored a total of 28 points ,while from the back of the grid, Nico Prost made a strong comeback to finish in the points with ninth place. The second visit to the Monaco ePrix opened under blue skies and in sunny conditions. All drivers were eager to go on track as there was no shakedown on Friday. Séb Buemi underlined his strong form by topping both Free Practice sessions. Not only that, the Swiss driver was the first man to dip under the 53s barrier and he also bettered his own laptime from 2015 by 1.6s. Nico Prost finished second with a laptime of 53.237s in FP1 and eighth during FP2. The championship leader drew Qualifying group 1 while his teammate got group 2. After a mature drive, Séb Buemi set the fastest lap of his group and made it to Super Pole. He then kept his head clean and went 0.237s quicker than his closest rival Lucas Di Grassi (ABT Schaeffler Audi Sport). Unfortunately for Nico Prost, he had to settle for P19 after clipping the barrier at the start of his flying lap. Séb Buemi produced a masterful drive from start to flag: he managed to lead the rest of the pack after Turn 1 and at the restart after a safety car period due to a collision between Jean­Eric Vergne (Techeetah) and Nelson Piquet Jr (NextEv). It was a tight battle between him and his closest rival Di Grassi but after a brilliant drive, he secured his fourth win of the season. It was more of a difficult race for Nico Prost who had to start from the back of the grid. However he managed to carve his way through the field and overtake the drivers in front of him, one by one. He was determined to score more points for the team and finished in tenth position securing the final point on offer. Following the race, Antonio Felix Da Costa (MS Amlin Andretti) was penalized for un unsafe release, thus promoting Nico Prost to ninth. Renault e.dams leave the Principality remaining unbeatable at this famous track, as Séb Buemi was triumphant here when the series' held its maiden event in 2015. Next up is the Paris ePrix which will be held next week on Saturday, May 20th and Renault e.dams lead the Teams’ standings with a total of 151 points. This win for Séb Buemi means he is now 15 points ahead of Di Grassi and leads the Drivers’ standings with 104 points. #9: Séb Buemi: “I am really happy to be back winning. I was quicker in the first half of the race, everything was under control. I managed to build a gap between Lucas and I in case of a safety car. On the second stint, I was struggling so much to keep up with him. He was trying to over consume and then less, so I always had to look into the mirrors. Well basically, I did the entire race looking in my mirrors. It is not the first car when I have had less pace in the second car, so we need to understand that and keep working. In general, we changed the set up of the second cars a little bit in order to use the extra grip of the circuit. If you want the perfect car, sometimes it need adjustments. I am still very happy with that result and I am looking forward to going to Paris next week. We have a good car, we have a good team.” #8 – Nico Prost: “I had a disappointing result in qualifying but overall it was a great race. When you start from the back of the grid in Monaco, you don’t expect much. But the car felt really good, the job done by the team was incredible. I just need to understand why we are not that competitive in qualifying. We need to put everything together and then we will fight for the podium at every race.” Vincent Gaillardot – FE Program leader: “It was a good weekend overall. We put the “machine” back on track after a tough Mexico ePrix. It had been a long time since Séb hadn't been on pole position. Therefore, he started the race in a strong position and managed his race very well. The battle is tight race to race with ABT Schaeffler Audi Sport so we need to keep working very hard to offer the best cars to both drivers. I think we should congratulate the whole team for their hard work. We wanted to play it safe for this weekend and now we are back working for Paris. The ePrix is coming very fast, it’s the first time that we've had a back­to­back race. The track is a little bit different too. As we don’t have much time to be ready, we need to make sure everything is well prepared and we will have to work fast on the cars. At the same time, it was a bit stressful because since the start of the season we have been struggling in qualifying and here it is really difficult to overtake when you are not at the front. Nico did great this morning during the Free Practice sessions, it was not what we expected in qualifying and you can see the consequences of starting from the back of the grid. They both did a great race though, they were both in points which is really difficult when you start so far back. We are very satisfied with that result before Paris ePrix. J.C.L Torrens Master’s Thesis – Master Innovation Sciences GEO4-2239X Faculty of Geosciences, Utrecht University 0 Place-specific formation processes of sustainable urban experiments Abstract Cities are increasingly recognized as frontrunners in the transition to a more sustainable society due to their assembly of technology, resources, population, culture, and economics. This is, amongst others, visible from a global increase in urban actors collaborating to experiment with new sustainable configurations. These so-called sustainable urban experiments, embedded in a broader niche, are not confined to a specific spatial context but will rather emerge in complex ‘place bundles’, forming a global niche. However, the formation of a global niche is interrelated with local experimentation and is thereby locally rooted. A prime example is sustainable motorsports experiment Formula E. Formula E operates on a global scale with numerous multinational companies involved but is set in urban environments and the local regional context arguably influences the formation of such events. In other words, Formula E is a global sustainable urban experiment which is locally embedded. Considerable variation in the way a sustainable urban experiment is formed locally is likely to exist. The objective of this study was to complement strategic niche management and sustainable transitions literature by understanding the specific place-specific factors under which global sustainable urban experiments are formed.

    MEDIA INFORMATION 2016/2017 FIA Formula E Championship ePrix of Paris – 6th round Home glory for the MICHELIN Pilot Sport EV2 The second running of the Paris Formula E ePrix took place in a festive atmosphere after the 7,000 grandstand seats sold out within 24 hours of going on sale, while more than 10,000 people explored the e-Village which was entirely free this year. A number of ‘fan zones’ located around the circuit enabled racing fans and casual visitors alike to enjoy a variety of entertainment and follow the action on giant screens. Seen mixing it with the public was the Michelin Man who is always a popular hit at events, while out on the track the MICHELIN Pilot Sport EV2 Formula E – which was introduced at the start of the 2016/2017 championship – was making its debut appearance in the streets of the French capital. With the exception of the pit lane exit, which was slightly modified compared with 2016, the circuit was identical to the 1.920km layout (14 turns: 6 left / 8 right) used last season. And once again, it proved particularly popular with both the drivers and the local spectators, most of whom would probably never have imagined that their city would one day host a major motor race in the heart of the Hôtel des Invalides district! “The feedback we have had from our partners about the MICHELIN Pilot Sport EV2 since the start of the 2016/2017 campaign has been positive,” remarks Serge Grisin, the manager of Michelin’s Formula E programme.

    MEDIA INFORMATION 2016/2017 FIA Formula E Championship ePrix of Monaco – 5th round A successful day for Formula E and Michelin in the Principality of Monaco! The second Monaco ePrix took place today in idyllic ideal weather conditions, allowing the crowd of almost 20,000 spectators to enjoy a quality of racing worthy of the Principality’s reputation as a longstanding home of topflight motorsport. Grid order was always going to play a key role around the 1.76km street circuit, as Stéphane Sarrazin (Venturi Formula E Team) explained at his team’s press conference on Friday: “It’s never easy to overtake at Monaco so it is essential to qualify in the best possible start position if you want to stand a chance of winning.” Track action kicked off early this morning with a free practice session that was marked by a number of accidents and tangles. As expected, qualifying turned out to be a fiercely-fought affair, with several drivers topping the order before Jean-Eric Vergne (TECHEETAH), Maro Engel (Venturi Formula E Team), Sébastien Buemi (Renault-e.dams), Nelson Piquet Jr (NEXTEV NIO) and Lucas Di Grassi (ABT Schaeffer Audi Sport) reached the final super- pole shootout phase, involving one flying lap each, one at a time. Sébastien Buemi – who topped the championship standings prior to the visit to Monaco on 76 points – was accredited with the best effort (53.313s) and he was joined on the grid’s front row by second-placed Lucas Di Grassi (+0.237s). The Monaco ePrix started at 4pm local time after a star-studded grid walk which included such international celebrities as the British model and actress Naomi Campbell, the president of the FIA (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile) and his wife Michelle Yeoh, another actress.

After defending Formula E champion Sebastien Buemi got off to a perfect start to the season, winning the championship’s first three events, the points race got a lot tighter and a little more interesting after Lucas Di Grassi’s bold victory in Mexico City trimmed Buemi’s lead to just five points heading into Monaco. The 1.097-mile, 12-turn Monaco ePrix circuit is a shortened version of the familiar Grand Prix course, as the Formula E version takes a hard right at Ste Devote rather than carrying on up the hill to Monte Carlo. From here, drivers run along the marina to the Nouvelle Chicane, where they make the hard right to rejoin the GP layout at the chicane at the exit of the tunnel. The remainder of the circuit follows the traditional route around the Swimming Pool, through Rascasse and Antony Noghes and back to the start/finish straight.
