A major distinction is our four-year graduation guarantee for full-time baccalaureate students who stay on track and maintain the required grade point average. Furthermore, we also guarantee employers and graduates that courses may be retaken free of charge within three years of graduation if they will enhance job performance. MSOE is committed to a basic educational philosophy that includes an “applications-oriented” approach in all classes and laboratories. Other examples of our philosophy are: • No graduate assistants. All courses are taught by faculty, even laboratory courses. • Small classes. This ensures that professors know students by name and have time to help them learn. • State-of-the-art laboratories. Full-scale laboratories are continually upgraded to stay at a professional level. • Ties with business and industry. MSOE has been affiliated with business and industry since the university’s inception. We have an industrial advisory committee for each program, with membership from within the industry. Student projects are industry-oriented to give students “real-world” experience that distinguishes them from graduates of other universities. • High placement rates. During the last decade, MSOE has had a greater than 95 percent placement average. Opportunities for new MSOE graduates abound. • Exciting metropolitan setting. Located in the eastern part of downtown Milwaukee, MSOE is a short walk from the theater district, museums, sports arenas, Lake Michigan, shopping and city festivals. One area in which technology shows potential to benefit the industry is in addressing the existing communication gaps between the designer, builder, and owner. This gap is more evident in the operation and maintenance of a building. At project completion, an owner also receives information of the building. This information is comprised of as-built drawings, operation and maintenance manuals, warranties, and other documents. However, there is additional and valuable information for the owner generated throughout the design and construction process that goes unrecorded or is not passed unto the owner at project completion. The Building Information Model (BIM) is a digital collection of well coordinated information about the design and construction of a building in the form of an integrated database, where information is generated as the digital model is produced.     Integration of Building Information Modeling (BIM) into an ACCE Accredited Construction Management Curriculum J. Mark Taylor, Ph.D., JD Junshan Liu, MBC and Michael F. Hein, PE Auburn University Auburn, Alabama Building Information Modeling (BIM) is becoming a revolution in the AEC industry. In order to introduce their students to basic concepts of BIM, faculty members in an ACCE construction management program have been experimenting with BIM in a variety of ways. This paper outlines a few methods of integrating BIM into their curriculum, their experience teaching an introductory course in BIM and feedback from students. Also, other courses in the curriculum, which are prerequisites to BIM and deliver fundamental skills on digital visualization, CAD drafting and 3D modeling, are briefly introduced by the authors. Furthermore, the future of integrating BIM into the curriculum, a new type of undergraduate capstone project utilizing BIM concepts, and curricular changes as a result of BIM will briefly be discussed. Keywords: Building Information Modeling, BIM, Information Technology, Construction Education Introduction The recent rapid evolution of BIM software and its adoption among the building disciplines suggests that BIM holds tremendous promise for the future of building. Due to its many uses and capabilities, contractors and construction associations are at the forefront of the BIM debate. The comprehensive nature of BIM suggests that it will become an integrating catalyst among AEC communities. If education is to prepare students for the coming BIM revolution, its integrative potential among the related disciplines must be explored at educational institutions. The current cross-disciplinary trend in higher education creates an environment which is ripe for such an exploration.
