This is the second time that the International Symposium on Ostracoda has been held in Germany, following the 5th International Symposium in Hamburg in 1974. The relative importance of Ostracodology - the science that studies Ostracoda - in Germany is further highlighted by well-known names such as G.W. Müller, Klie, Triebel and Helmdach, and others who stand for the long tradition of research on Ostracoda in Germany. During our symposium in Berlin more than 150 participants from 36 countries will meet to discuss all aspects of living and fossil Ostracoda. Th e males were compared with the males of the other 11 species of the genus Ilyocypris (I. australiensis, I. biplicata, I. decipiens, I. dentifera, I. divisa, I. fallax, I. getica, I. gibba, I. lacustris, I. mongolica, and I. monstrifi ca) and described based on examinations of the soft body parts (e.g., hemipenis, legs, clasping organs) and valves. Tanycypris alfonsi is also known from Germany, where it is considered to be an alien species. The Limnocythere species belongs to the stationis group, which consists of another eight species, and is probably undescribed. FINGER1*,SANDA IEPURE2,SANDRO MARIANI3, ALESSANDRO MONTANARI4, AND TADEUSZ NAMIOTKO5 Abstract: Rich, diverse assemblages comprising a total (live + dead) of twenty-one ostracod species belonging to fifteen genera were recovered from phreatic waters of the hypogenic Frasassi Cave system and the adjacent Frasassi sulfidic spring and Sentino River in the Marche region of the northeastern Apennines of Italy. Specimens were recovered from ten sites, eight of which were in the phreatic waters of the cave system and sampled at different times of the year over a period of five years. Approximately 6900 specimens were recovered, the vast majority of which were disarticulated valves; live ostracods were also collected. The most abundant species in the sulfidic spring and Sentino River were Prionocypris zenkeri, Herpetocypris chevreuxi,andCypridopsis vidua, while the phreatic waters of the cave system were dominated by two putatively new stygobitic species of Mixtacandona and Pseudolimnocythere and a species that was also abundant in the sulfidic spring, Fabaeformiscandona ex gr. F. fabaeformis. Pseudocandona ex gr. P. eremita, likely another new stygobitic species, is recorded for the first time in Italy. The relatively high diversity of the ostracod assemblages at Frasassi could be attributed to the heterogeneity of groundwater and associated habitats or to niche partitioning promoted by the creation of a chemoautotrophic ecosystem based on sulfur-oxidizing bacteria. -

Alkalaj; e-mail: [email protected] (Received 20 February 2018; accepted 25 February 2019) ABSTRACT Ostracods in Icelandic freshwaters have seldom been researched, with the most comprehen- sive record from the 1930s. There is a need to update our knowledge of the distribution of ostracods in Iceland as they are an important link in these ecosystems as well as good can- didates for biomonitoring. We analysed 25,005 ostracods from 44 lakes, 14 springs, and 10 cave pools. A total of 16 taxa were found, of which seven are new to Iceland. Candona candida (Müller, 1776) is the most widespread species, whereas Cytherissa lacustris (Sars, 1863) and Cypria ophtalmica (Jurine, 1820) are the most abundant, showing great numbers in lakes. Potamocypris fulva (Brady, 1868) is the dominant species in springs. While the fauna of lakes and springs are relatively distinct from each other, cave pools host species that are common in both lakes and springs. -

Abstract In the present study the community structure and diversity of ostracods were investigated seasonally in Songül Altınsaçlı the water of the nine wetlands located in Sakarya and Kocaeli Province during September 2009-January İstanbul University, Faculty of 2010. As a result of the qualitative study, totally of 24 taxa belonging to 20 genera were recorded in nine Science, Department of Biology, wetlands. Among the ostracods species found at wetlands, Cosmopolitan species Darwinula stevensoni 34459, Vezneciler, İstanbul- Turkey. (8 wetlands) Cypria ophthalmica (8 wetlands) and Cypridopsis vidua (8 wetlands) were the most common species (88.8%) in nine wetlands, whereas, five species of ostracods (Candonopsis kingsleii, Ferda Perçin Paçal Tonnacypris lutaria, Potamocypris variegata, Sarscypridopsis aculeata and Plesiocypridopsis newtoni) İstanbul University, Institute of were found only in one wetland. According to the Shannon-Weaver diversity index (H') the highest Experimental Medicine Research, diversity values determined in the Lake Kanlıgöl (3.378) and Lake Kamış (3.38), whereas, the lowest Department of Genetics, Vakıf values of the Shannon-Weaver diversity index (H’) was determined in Dalyan Lagoon (0.86). China ABSTRACT Preliminary investigations of urban waters in Beijing City and small water-bodies in Inner Mongolia yielded a total of 12 living ostracod species. Five species are new records for China: Candona quasiakaina Karanovic & Lee, 2012, Fabaeformiscandona myllaina Smith & Kamiya, 2007, Heterocypris auricularis sp. nov. (previously known as Heterocypris sanukiensis Okubo, 2004 nomen nudum), Ilyocypris mongolica Martens, 1991 and Plesiocypridopsis newtoni (Brady & Robertson, 1870). Bradleycypris vittata (Sars, 1903), Ilyocypris angulata Sars, 1903, Limnocythere stationis Vávra, 1891 and Physocypria kraepelini G. W. Müller, 1903 are the first records for Palaearctic China. Cypridopsis vidua (O. F. Müller, 1776), Heterocypris incongruens (Ramdohr, 1808) and Limnocythere inopinata (Baird, 1843) are also reported in this paper, although they had already been found in China before. Of the above species, B. vittata, I. angulata and I. mongolica are re-described. The present study expands our knowledge on the taxonomy and geographical distribution of ostracod species. -
