The team spent time evaluating and placing cows based upon udder quality and composition, as well as struc- tural correctness and soundness. Heifers were evaluated based upon structure as well as stature. Breeds consisted of Brown Swiss, Ayrshire, Guernsey, Holstein, and Jersey. There were a total of 10 classes, five being cows and the other five being heifers. The team was allowed 15 minutes to judge and place the classes. After judging the classes, the team had to take notes and give oral reasons for three of the ten classes, explaining why they placed the class as they did. The re- port had to provide a minimum of four good things to say about the cow or heifer that was placed over another, a grant for the cow or heifer underneath it, and a criticism for that animal as well. The team scored second place overall, and as first place team in for the Holstein breed. See DAIRY on page 4 City Council to vote on budget amendments Julie A. Ferraro Dalhart Texan
