Prihvaćeno / Accepted: 27.4.2018. U pojmovnom su smislu selo i seljaci neodvojivi od pojmova prostor, kultu- ra (tradicija) i vrijeme. U priopćenju ćemo dati kraći pregled povezanosti pojmova selo i seljaci s ovim pojmovima, u njihovim povijesnim i aktual- nim aspektima i dimenzijama. S obzirom na prostornu dimenziju, selo se povijesno i aktualno prije svega promatralo kao suprotnost gradu. Selo i grad dvije su prostorne or- ganizacije života ljudi koje su vremenom prolazile svoje mijene. No, selo je tijekom svojih promjena sve više prihvaćalo obrasce urbane kulture, da bi u suvremenosti njegova sudbina bila dodatno uvjetovana procesima glo- kalizacije. Stoga u moderno doba nestaju neka obilježja tih suprotnosti i specifičnosti između sela i grada. Selo se kao poseban oblik zajednice, svijet za sebe, razlikuje od gra- da po drugačijem odnosu prema prirodi, unutarnjoj strukturi i dinami- ci stanovništva, zanimanjima te sustavu vrijednosti u kojemu dominira religija. S obzirom na vremensku dimenziju, tradicijsko selo ne poznaje pojam razvoja, brzine života i brzog protoka vremena te mu općenito nije svojstvena kvantifikacija vremena. U selu danas žive seljani od kojih su samo neki poljoprivrednici (selja- ci). Seljaci predstavljaju povijesnu kategoriju povezanu s poljoprivredom koja je pak određivala glavni sadržaj života – od proizvodnje, graditeljstva pa sve do svečanosti. Zbog toga je i tradicijska kultura, kao glavno obilježje seoskog načina života u kulturnom smislu, nastala oblikovanjem socijal- no-ekološkog ruralnog metabolizma. Ona, stoga, danas ima važnu ulogu u produbljivanju našeg razumijevanja odnosa modernog društva i prirode. Dvadeseto stoljeće i industrijalizacija označili su razdoblje „kraja selja- ka“ i posebnog ruralnog načina života, a u dvadeset prvom stoljeću u razvi- jenim zemljama postavlja se pitanje nestanka sela kao specifičnog naselja obilježenoga tradicijskom kulturom. Istovremeno, ono i dalje opstaje na mnogim drugim prostorima Planeta, no njegovi stanovnici sve teže žive. Ključne riječi: selo, seljaci, kultura, tradicija 5 Ivan Cifrić UVODNO U suvremenim sociološkim istraživanjima vidljiv je manjak novijih istraživanja o selu i seljacima, zbog čega nedostaje i novijih spoznaja o suvremenom stanju i tendencijama ovih dvaju iznimno važnih feno- mena. Ni druge društvene znanosti nisu mnogo produktivnije u tom smislu. Stoga, primjerice, nema dovoljno istraživanja o stanju tradicijske kulture, sustavima vrijednosti (vrednota) u ruralnim naseljima i dr. Za- ključci o seoskom stanovništvu donose se gotovo isključivo na temelju rezultata popisa stanovništva, bez prikupljanja dodatnih statističkih po- dataka. Ili se kao općeprihvaćene činjenice nekritički koriste uvriježena određenja ovih pojmova, primjerice, definicije sela kao malog naselja, ili uvjerenja da je ruralno stanovništvo nužno konzervativnije i religioznije od urbanog. Za spoznaje o mikro-razini oslanjamo se pak na priloge iz javnih medija, koji su obično ograničeni, i to najčešće na izvještaje o nedostacima komunalne infrastrukture u selima, povremene prijenose odabranih tradicijskih svetkovina te analize posljedica ratnih stradanja i razaranja. Međutim, dok pojmovi selo i seljaci još uvijek sadrže neka obilježja prošlosti, ona su se u suvremenosti uvelike promijenila i nastavljaju se mijenjati. U općem smislu, danas se pojmom selo i dalje najčešće mi- sli na malo naselje u kojem dominira tradicionalna kultura, a pojmom seljaci na socijalnu skupinu vezanu za poljoprivredu i stočarstvo. No, tijekom vremena, u oba ova pojma ugrađivani su, uz ove tradicionalne, i novi elementi. U priopćenju ćemo iznijeti glavna obilježja i točke promjena pojmo- va selo i seljaci, kroz povijest do danas, i to pomoću triju pojmova koja ih oduvijek blisko prate: prostor, vrijeme i kultura (tradicija). DIMENZIJE U ISTRAŽIVANJU SELA I SELJAŠTVA Tri dimenzije smatramo ključnima za bolje razumijevanje pojmova selo i seljaci. To su prostor, vrijeme i kultura (materijalna, socijalna i duhovna). Uloga prostora U prošlosti su naselja uvijek nastajala na prostorima pogodnima za ži- vot. Ljudi su ih obično gradili na povišenim mjestima, a prirodne zna- čajke poput rijeka i planina omeđivale bi njihov svakodnevni životni 6 SELO I SELJACI – GLAVNA OBILJEŽJA I TOČKE PROMJENA prostor kojeg su obilježavale plodne i obradive površine. Mjesta oda- brana za naselja nerijetko su bila prostori već postojećih naselja (što je vidljivo iz usmene predaje ili materijalnih ostataka). No, uz određene fizičke odrednice, prostor se uvijek povezivao i s vjerovanjima. To je, primjerice, vidljivo iz toponimijskih aspekata nase- lja koji uvijek imaju vezu s tradicijom, religijama ili mitovima. U novijoj literaturi Belaj (2014) govori o međuodnosu mitologije i toponimijskih aspekata naseljavanja. U mitovima je prostor obično podijeljen tako da na najvišim mjestima u uređenom prostoru obitavaju ljudima naklo- njeni bogovi, dok se u najnepristupačnijim dijelovima i neredu nalaze neprijatelji ljudima, kao što su zmajevi, zli duhovi i sl. Ljudi su oduvijek težili otići iz nepovoljnijih prostora i naseljavati one pogodnije. Istovre- meno, na naseljenim prostorima stanovnici su imenovali pojedine dije- love atara. Mnogi su nazivi ostali do danas, a u njima su vidljivi utjecaji vlastite kulture, katkad i susjednih kultura. Uz fizičke značajke i kulturna obilježja, iz načina organizacije sela može se iščitati i poseban odnos seljana prema prostoru. Tako, primje- rice, u ravničarskim dijelovima Hrvatske nisu građene kuće na kat niti prostor za stoku u sklopu zajedničkog prebivališta, ispod stambenog prostora. Možemo reći

Gutachter: Prof. Dr. Sven Grawunder Tag der mündlichen Prüfung: 01.11.2018 ABSTRACT Jevgenij Zintchenko Jurlina: The production of lexical tone in Croatian (Under the direction of Prof. Dr. Henning Reetz and Prof. Dr. Sven Grawunder) This dissertation is an investigation of pitch accent, or lexical tone, in standard Croatian. The first chapter presents an in-depth overview of the history of the Croatian language, its relationship to Serbo-Croatian, its dialect groups and pronunciation variants, and general phonology. The second chapter explains the difference between various types of prosodic prominence and describes systems of pitch accent in various languages from different parts of the world: Yucatec Maya, Lithuanian and Limburgian. Following is a detailed account of the history of tone in Serbo-Croatian and Croatian, the specifics of its tonal system, intonational phonology and finally, a review of the most prominent phonetic investigations of tone in that language. The focal point of this dissertation is a production experiment, in which ten native speakers of Croatian from the region of Slavonia were recorded. The material recorded included a diverse selection of monosyllabic, bisyllabic, trisyllabic and quadrisyllabic words, containing all four accents of standard Croatian: short falling, long falling, short rising and long rising. Each target word was spoken in initial, medial and final positions of natural Croatian sentences.

    Mihaela Grčević UDK 7.025:391 Ethnographic Museum 069(497.521.2):39 Zagreb Professional paper [email protected] Received: 17 October 2014 Accepted: 20 October 2014 Work carried out in the Textile Restoration-Preparation Workshop between the second half of 2012 and mid-20141 The paper describes the preventive conservation and restoration work carried out in the Textile Restoration-Preparation Workshop of the Ethnographic Mu- seum between the second half of 2012 and mid-2014: the work preceding the mounting of the World of Toys project, and preventive conservation work on objects in the Museum textile collections. On two occasions the Workshop engaged in conservation and restoration projects with the Textile, Paper and Leather Department of the Croatian Conservation Institute. The review of the work includes the involvement of the Workshop in the rescue of textile heritage items in the flood-affected areas of Županjska Posavina. Conserva- tion and restoration operations on objects are described. (Under the direction of Carole L. Crumley) This research explores the issues of family farming and sustainable practices at two levels. On one level, it compares and contrasts the sustainable farming practices of farming families in Štitar, Croatia with the smallholders as described by the theory of cultural ecology. On another level, it contrasts the European Union’s (EU) Common Agricultural Policy’s (CAP) vision of sustainability to that posited by cultural ecologists and it seeks to understand the reaction of Štitar farmers to the CAP. My research goal is to explore how the social, economic and environmental health and status of the village, which is influenced by local traditional ethics and agricultural practices, fits with the CAP goals of rural preservation and agricultural sustainability.

Two rivers whose names the region bares are not only important for its positioning. They influence its nature and the people living in this area. Hajduk regatta in Bogatić, Serbia The region is geographically positioned in the north-east of Croatia (eastern Slavonia), the north-west of Serbia (south-west Vojvodina and north-west Central Serbia) and north- east Bosnia and Herzegovina (Semberija). Countries and municipalities The countries whose territories belong to the Drina - Sava region are Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Serbia. The region encompasses seventeen municipalities - seven from Croatia, five from Serbia, and five from Bosnia and Herzegovina. The following municipalities form this specific cross-border area: • Bosnia and Herzegovina: Bijeljina, Ugljevik, Lopare, Brčko, Donji Žabari • Croatia: Ilok, Lovas, Tovarnik, Nijemci, Vrbanja, Drenovci, Gunja • Serbia: Sremska Mitrovica, Šid, Bogatić, Loznica, Šabac People and their diversity For historical reasons, these border areas contain one of the most ethnically diverse populations in Europe.

    On the Phenomenon of Biliterariness (Based on the Experience of Studies of South Slavic Literatures) Nadezhda Starikova Institute of Slavic Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Leninsky Ave 32a, 119334 Moscow, Russia [email protected] Russian Slavic scholars have focused on issues of studying and interpreting South Slavic Literatures for a long time. A recent landmark in the field, the Lexicon of South Slavic Literatures presents not only prominent Yugoslav writers but unveils their literary interconnections. Among other things, a feature of South Slavic literary context is a phenomenon of biliterariness of a number of writers, i.e. their affiliation with literary life of several national literatures. This phenomenon has deep historical, literary, ethnic, lingual, and religious roots. In certain periods, mostly under the influence of extraliterary conditions, it triggers heated debates. For example, the Soviet Union collapse provoked polemics over the attitude of Russian writing authors (Aitmatov, Bykov) representing national literatures towards Russian literature. While identifying the specificity of works authored by writers whose literary activity can be affiliated with two literatures, it should be taken into account that their biliterariness may be diachronic, i.e. pertaining to different periods, or synchronic, i.e. manifesting itself throughout the development of two literatures simultaneously. Scholars studying multinational contexts of any kind are facing a challenge of developing key criteria to identify national dominant.

Tradicijsko odijevanje u Županji i okolici Županjska Posavina zauzima jugoistočni dio Vukovarsko-srijemske županije. Tradicijski oblici odijevanja i češljanja na tom prostoru slabo su istraženi. Na osnovi terenskih istraživanja i dosadašnje lite- rature, praćene su promjene tradicijskog ruha u Županji i bližim joj selima u razdoblju od kraja 19. st. do današnjih dana. Razlikuju se i opisuju dva osnovna tipa nošnje - stariji, koji izlazi iz redovne upora- be krajem 19. st; i mlađi, svečani, koji se razvijao tijekom 20. st. i koji se danas prepoznaje kao županjska narodna nošnja. Ključne riječi: narodne nošnje, odijevanje, Županjska Posavina Uvod radicijsko odijevanje stanovništva županjske Posavine Tslabo je istraženo. Dok su pojedina područja Slavonije detaljno obrađena, podaci o odijevanju i češljanju u županjskom kraju razmjerno su rijetki u etnološkoj literaturi.     Josip Forjan UDK 061.2:39](497.521.2) National costume rental and production workshop Review paper Zagreb Received: 10 November 2015 [email protected] Accepted: 14 November 2015 Originals and reconstructions as protected goods Collection and Activity of the National Costume Rental and Production Workshop The article describes the holdings and the development of the National Costume Rental and Production Workshop (hereinafter: Workshop) which looks after more than 29,000 parts of national and folklore costumes and which is, in terms of its activity and its collection, a unique institution in the Republic of Croatia. The article presents rare items in the collection, the ways of its conservation, storage and maintenance, and the process of protection of the collection as cultural property. It highlights the advances in reconstruction&restoration, the contribution of the collection to the preservation of the Croatian traditional cultural heritage, to the reconstruction of textile handicrafts, and its impact on the development of costimography on the amateur folklore scene. Key words: National costume rental and production workshop (Zagreb) national costume reconstruction, folklore amateurism The Workshop is a specialised institution for the collection, rental, production (recon- struction), renewing and professional protection (restoration) of folklore, stage and other modern forms of use of national costumes, folklore costumes and traditional textile objects. It has organised many cultural and educational programmes – concerts, exhibitions, workshops, courses and seminars presenting the traditional cultural herit- age, reviving traditional textile handicrafts and promoting various uses of national costumes in modern life. It was founded in 1948 and boasts more than 65 years of successful activity.
