With its elegant buildings and wide tree-lined streets, Penarth retains much of its original Victorian and Edwardian character. Sometimes we get there early to watch the Balmoral embarking on a cruise. visit - http://www.waverleyexcursions.co.uk We drive through the town centre and then left at the Town Clock Roundabout and park in a side street. We walk back to the roundabout (WCs in the vicinity) then first left down Windsor Terrace towards the sea, crossing the road into Alexandra Park. There are panoramic views of the Bristol Channel as we make our way down towards the sea front past colourful ornamental gardens, leafy glades, a fishpond, aviary and the bandstand. ***Crossing Bridgeman Road we enter Windsor Gardens with more floral displays and sea views. Bordering the park are magnificent large town houses of local blue lias stone, once the homes of sea captains, coal magnates and businessmen: some have been converted to retirement homes. We exit onto Cliff Hill and cross the road onto Telegraph Way. This is a mile-long cliff-top path that leads to Lavernock Point. There is a plaque on the church wall to commemorate Marconi's first transmitted radio signal across open sea to the island of Flatholm, from here, on 13th May 1897.

Exchanges flowed across the city’s ethnic frontier, bridging black and white youth together in an ‘oppositional’ and musical movement. While migrants enacted their Jamaican ethnicity in places where reggae was played, many non-Jamaicans satisfied a curiosity in the music of their migrant friends. This study examines the process of migration of people and music as seen from both the migrant and the host’s perspective. It is as much about black Jamaicans as it is about white Torontonians. Twenty Jamaicans and twenty non-Jamaicans were interviewed for this project. Though reggae became an expected part of Toronto’s musical vernacular, the Canadian version meant different things to different people. Indeed, sometimes the only thread that tied the varied experiences together was that Toronto was the place where reggae happened. Still, as a hybrid, reggae had rather evolved outside of place. It was a transnational musical form, constantly updated by influences traversing the ‘Black Atlantic’ in an on-going and triangular musical conversation.

    Not Alright – Mungo Jerry singer found to have misrepresented ownership of the copyright The Intellectual Property Enterprise Court has ruled that the singer of Mungo Jerry had misrepresented to a music publisher that he owned copyrights in the song Alright, Alright, Alright .1 In reliance on the misrepresentation, the publisher had taken a purported assignment of a share of the copyrights and then licensed what it thought to be its share to Sony/ATV. Eventually the publisher had to pay £33,600 to the true copyright owner to settle an infringement claim. The IPEC ordered the singer to pay that amount to the publisher as damages for misrepresentation. But the court rejected the publisher’s claim for lost royalties that it would have earned from exploitation of the song, had the assignment been valid. Background Ray Dorset was the singer of rock band Mungo Jerry, which had a huge international hit with In The Summertime in 1970. Eliot Cohen, a director of Associated Music International ( AMI ), first went into business with Ray Dorset in May 1970. They entered into a publishing agreement that remained in force until 1 November 1973, four months after Mungo Jerry’s release of Alright . The written termination of the agreement contained a schedule of songs that would remain the property of Eliot Cohen’s company Our Music Limited ( OML ), in which Alright was not listed. Eliot Cohen claimed that he was not aware of the song at that time. Shortly before the release of Alright in July 1973, Ray Dorset’s manager, Barry Murray, was contacted by the claimant, French music publishing company Editions Musicales Alpha ( EMA ).
