  • MIKE BATT BIOG 2020 160.55 Kb
MIKE BATT BIOGRAPHY “I thought that if life was like a Mars bar and you cut it up into little slices rather than eat it in one go, you’d get a lot more out of it,” says Mike Batt. He must have access to an awfully big piece of confectionery, as his unique career has plenty of tasty slices – singer-songwriter, composer, musician, record company boss, conductor, arranger, record producer and author. As well as being a solo performer in his own right, the roster of artists he has worked with is the cliched Who’s Who of music’s biggest names across the entire spectrum of performance from heavy metal Hawkwind to the rather cuddlier Wombles, with Art Garfunkel, Katie Melua, David Essex, Roger Daltrey, Vanessa Mae, Steeleye Span, Elkie Brooks and Cliff Richard, amongst many others. Mike has also won five Ivor Novello Awards, and the Queen quite likes him too, as in 2013, he was appointed Lieutenant of the Royal Victorian Order (LVO) for services to the Royal Household. He has composed commissioned pieces for various Royal and other ceremonial occasions. His hugely successful career(s) began as a child, when he joined a postal classical record club where you got four free EPs if you bought an album every year. He chose Strauss waltzes, Brahms’ Hungarian Dances, Carmen and Swan Lake, and started to fancy himself as a conductor, arranging the furniture into the shape of an orchestra when his parents were out, and being the Conductor. Combine this with his self-taught prowess at the piano, and love of verse with clever lyrics (one of his first works was setting the AA Milne poem Disobedience to his own music), plus playing with an R&B group in his hometown of Southampton, a musical career beckoned.

FIVE DIE FILMING THIS LAZY LARK CD/LP (VESPERTINE 007 1998) SOUP SPILLED I was raised on wholesome chemicals and now I’m sick without the additives you spilled your soup... just look at it you've spilled your soup now I’m sailing on the blood vessel set adrift on the ocean of shame every book I’ve never read they're gonna reach conclusions the same you've spilled your soup just look at it. HAIRDO AT 90 you can murder your sister or disown your brother but you still have to live in relation to others still it's all about timing I thought as I told the wife and lad that I was off for good on fathers day you mean there's a channel 5? I thought they were just adverts for an early night in winter fires choking sweet cinema popcorn or colostomy bag needs emptying like an alcoholic on anti-biotics I’ll muddle through this hairdo at 90 I can't believe you’re letting me wear my new socks 2 days before my birthday if you need to know the guts of every situation I tell them I’m a film crew scouting for locations the march of the insect nation without favour or consideration the loft window opened slightly to the sunny Paris morning peeping over rooftops with a mixture of her scent and the warm bakery odour floating upwards gently wakes you .... not really you're in prison spent his teenage years brawling with all comers in denial of his sexuality while I spent mine in denial of the fact that I’m a vicious thug but I’m suspicious of anyone who knows what they want hairdo at 90 ..

March 2007 Newsletter ----------------------------------- Yesterday & Today Records 255A Church St Parramatta NSW 2150 phone/fax: (02) 96333585 email: [email protected] web: www.yesterdayandtoday.com.au ------------------------------------------------------ Postage: 1 cd $2.00/ 2cd $3/ 3-4 cds $5.80* (*Recent Australia Post price increase.) Guess what? We have just celebrated our 18th anniversary. Those who try things we recommend are rewarded. We have stayed in business for one reason and that is we have never attempted to appeal to the lowest common denominator as mainstream outlets do. At the same time we recognise that people do have different tastes and to some CMT is actually good. We also appeal to those people and offer many mainstream items in our bargain bin. But the legends and true country music are our bread butter and will always be. If you see something you think you may like but are worried let us know. If you pass our inquisition we may be able to send it on a sale or return basis. I say inquisition because if your favourite artists are SheDaisy and Rascal Flatts we certainly aren’t going to risk something as precious as Justin Trevino. By the same token we believe great music is timeless and knows no bounds. People may think chuck steak is good until they try the best rump! Recently I had the pleasure of seeing Dale Watson. Before hand I had the added pleasure of sitting in with my compatriot Eddie White (a.k.a. “The Cosmic Cowboy”) for an interview at the 2RRR Studios. Dale is a humble, engaging and extremely likeable man with a passion for tradition.
