In this special year, join us for an exciting range of events and activities to remember and honour QSO’s proud history. We want to especially thank our audiences who have been with us throughout this journey. There will be opportunities for you to share your memories of QSO, for past supporters to reconnect with us, and for new audiences to discover the cultural icon that is QSO, our great state orchestra. To open QSO’s 2017 performance season, and mark the commencement of our celebrations, QSO performs Wagner’s Tannhäuser Overture on Saturday 18 February under the baton of QSO Music Director Alondra de la Parra. This overture was the first work performed at the QSO’s inaugural concert in 1947. qso.com.au/70 2 qso.com.au SEASON 2017 Music Director’s WELCOME and I have invited two of my most acclaimed predecessors back to the QSO for this season, Johannes Fritzsch and Muhai Tang — welcome to you both! I am honoured to be following these artists on the podium. In this first season, I have designed a diverse program sourced from many traditions and styles over several centuries.
