For many more events, go to www.VisitCentralPA.org and click on “Events” ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT July 10-20: Events this Week at Your Campus Theatre Echo in the Canyon (7/10-11) Echo In The Canyon celebrates the explosion of popular music that came out of LA's Laurel Canyon in the mid-60s as folk went electric and The Byrds, The Beach Boys, Buffalo Springfield and The Mamas and the Papas gave birth to the California Sound of American popular music. Rocketman (7/12-18) the epic musical fantasy about the incredible story of Elton John's breakthrough years. The Secret Life of Pets (7/20-25). Classic Film Series: Jaws (7/14). Summer Family Film Series: Akeelah & the Bee (7/16) Akeelah is a precocious 11-year-old girl from south Los Angeles with a gift for words. Despite the objections of her mother Tanya, Akeelah enters various spelling contests, for which she is tutored by the forthright Dr. Larabee; her principal Mr. Welch and the proud residents of her neighborhood. Akeelah's aptitude earns her an opportunity to compete for a spot in the Scripps National Spelling Bee and in turn unites her neighbors who witness the courage and inspiration of one amazing little girl. Lewisburg July 18-21: Community Theatre League Performance of West Side Story Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet is transported to modern-day New York City as two young, idealistic lovers find themselves caught between warring street gangs, the "American" Jets and the Puerto Rican Sharks. Their struggle to survive in a world of hate, violence and prejudice is one of the most innovative, heart-wrenching and relevant musical dramas of our time. www.CTLShows.com Williamsport July 19-20: Ned Smith Center Shakespeare in the Woods Julius Caesar -One of Shakespeare’s most famous tragedies, Julius Caesar depicts the political conspiracy that leads to the assassination of one of the most powerful and successful leaders of the Roman Empire and the aftermath of this chilling historical event. Recommended for ages 12 and up, the production is extremely accessible, employing Gamut’s unique educational outreach style combining Shakespeare’s original text with modern “narrations” of the most famous scenes from the play for an easy-to-understand story. Reception 6-8 p.m. on Sat., July 13. www.ExchangeArts.org Bloomsburg Now-October 13: Show & Tell The Samek Art Museum is inviting regional community members — from Bucknell University faculty, staff, and students plus our neighbors in Central PA's Susquehanna River Valley, to contribute objects to our summer exhibition! Show something beautiful and tell its story! This exhibition will grow and change as more people contribute objects. July 16 – Learn the wet felting process using colored wool roving to make a small coin or objects pouch. www.PackwoodHouseMuseum.com Lewisburg July 17-20: Public Library for Union County Annual Summer Book Sale Wednesday, 9 am to 8 pm; Thursday, 9 am to 8 pm; Friday, 9 am to 7 pm; Saturday, 9 am to 1 pm. Books are sold for $20 per bag with bags provided at the sale. Special Interest Books Section (individually priced). Special events include: Food Truck Summer Series plus Pop-Up Crop Swap: Every Wednesday through August 14 we will host a food truck from 11-1 at the Children’s Museum. Along with our food truck we will have a pop-up crop swap – got extra tomatoes but need eggs? Have zucchini but are hankering for some green beans?
