For many more events, go to www.VisitCentralPA.org and click on “Events” ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT July 10-20: Events this Week at Your Campus Theatre Echo in the Canyon (7/10-11) Echo In The Canyon celebrates the explosion of popular music that came out of LA's Laurel Canyon in the mid-60s as folk went electric and The Byrds, The Beach Boys, Buffalo Springfield and The Mamas and the Papas gave birth to the California Sound of American popular music. Rocketman (7/12-18) the epic musical fantasy about the incredible story of Elton John's breakthrough years. The Secret Life of Pets (7/20-25). Classic Film Series: Jaws (7/14). Summer Family Film Series: Akeelah & the Bee (7/16) Akeelah is a precocious 11-year-old girl from south Los Angeles with a gift for words. Despite the objections of her mother Tanya, Akeelah enters various spelling contests, for which she is tutored by the forthright Dr. Larabee; her principal Mr. Welch and the proud residents of her neighborhood. Akeelah's aptitude earns her an opportunity to compete for a spot in the Scripps National Spelling Bee and in turn unites her neighbors who witness the courage and inspiration of one amazing little girl. Their struggle to survive in a world of hate, violence and prejudice is one of the most innovative, heart-wrenching and relevant musical dramas of our time. www.CTLShows.com Williamsport July 19-20: Ned Smith Center Shakespeare in the Woods Julius Caesar -One of Shakespeare’s most famous tragedies, Julius Caesar depicts the political conspiracy that leads to the assassination of one of the most powerful and successful leaders of the Roman Empire and the aftermath of this chilling historical event. Recommended for ages 12 and up, the production is extremely accessible, employing Gamut’s unique educational outreach style combining Shakespeare’s original text with modern “narrations” of the most famous scenes from the play for an easy-to-understand story.
