Surah-surah yang mengandung ajakan melakukan kekerasan, kebencian, dan diskriminasi terhadap wanita dalam Qur¶an dan Sunnah harus dilenyapkan atau dipandang sebagai hal yang hanya cocok untuk sejarah masa lampau saja jika Islam dan Muslim ingin diterima dalam masyarakat modern. Di awal bulan September 2008, media Jerman melaporkan pendapat dari Profesor Jerman ahli Islam bernama Sven (Muhammad) Kalisch, seorang mualaf yg mengajar ilmu agama Islam di Universitas Munster di Jerman. Prof. Kalisch menyatakan bahwa dia merasa sangat ragu bahwa Muhammad sang Nabi Islam itu pernah benar-benar ada. Dia juga menduga kemungkinan bahwa Muhammad dianggap Nabi hanya setelah dia mati. Prof. Sven (Muhammad) Kalisch Keberanian ahli Islam seperti Prof. Kalisch mengungkapkan pendapat patut diacungkan jempol, mengingat banyak orang lain ketakutan mengritik Islam karena segala macam intimidasi Muslim. Hampir dua tahun yang lalu, pemikiran dan kuliah Prof. Kalisch sangatlah berbeda dengan sekarang. Contohnya, pada kuliah umumnya di tanggal 16 Maret 2006, dia membela Syariah sebagai hukum Tuhan. Sewaktu aku menentang pendapatnya sambil menunjukkan ayat -ayat keji Qur¶an yang membujuk Muslim utk melakukan kekerasan, kebencian, dan diskrimina si atas wanita (silakan periksa Islam is a violent Faith / Islam adalah Agama Penuh Kekerasan. In a sense, it is to sketch out a singular narrative but of many personal “conversions.” So now, being here, I am looking back, and it all seems so clear and obvious. Donner University of Chicago Dear Friends and Colleagues, It is my distinct privilege to provide you with a copy of the eleventh Far- hat J. Ziadeh Distinguished Lecture in Arab and Islamic Studies, “How Ecumenical Was Early Islam?” delivered by Fred M. Donner on April 29, 2013. The Ziadeh Fund was formally endowed in 2001. Since that time, with your support, it has allowed us to strengthen our educational reach and showcase the most outstanding scholarship in Arab and Islamic Studies, and to do so always in honor of our dear colleague Farhat Ziadeh, whose contributions to the fields of Islamic law, Arabic language, and Islamic Studies are truly unparalleled. Farhat J. Ziadeh was born in Ramallah, Palestine, in 1917. He received his B.A. from the American University of Beirut in 1937 and his LL.B. from the University of London in 1940. He then attended Lincoln’s Inn, London, where he became a Barrister-at-Law in 1946. In the final years of the British Mandate, he served as a Magistrate for the Government of Palestine before eventually moving with his family to the United States. He was appointed Professor of Arabic and Islamic Law at Princeton University, where he taught until 1966, at which time he moved to the University of Washington. The annual lectureship in his name is a fitting tribute to his international reputation and his national service to the discipline of Arabic and Islam- ic Studies. -

The study in its finding argues that there is some addition and deduction in the storyline conveyed by the early Sirah compilers. Secondly, there is difference facts among the biographer of Sirah about particular issue in the Battle of Uhud. -
Lehi and the Arabs
Lehi and the Arabs Here we discuss Lehi’s personal contacts with the Arabs, as indicated by his family background and his association with Ishmael, whose descendants in the New World closely resemble the Ishmaelites (Bedouins) of the Old World. The names of Lehi and some of his sons are pure Arabic. The Book of Mormon depicts Lehi as a man of three worlds, and it has recently become generally recognized that the ancient Hebrews shared fully in the culture and traditions of the desert on the one hand and in the cultural heritage of Egypt on the other. Lehi’s ties with the Arabs are many and interesting. Since the only comprehensive study of this theme is a chapter of Lehi in the Desert, we can do no better in this lesson than to quote that chapter, with necessary alterations and additions. Signicance of Manasseh Now of all the tribes of Israel, Manasseh was the one which lived farthest out in the desert, came into the most frequent contact with the Arabs, intermarried with them most frequently, and at the same time had the closest traditional bonds with Egypt.1 The prominence of the name of Ammon in the Book of Mormon may have something to do with the fact that Ammon was Manasseh’s nearest neighbor and often fought him in the deserts east of Jordan; at the same time a prehistoric connection with the Ammon of Egypt is not at all out of the question. The seminomadic nature of Manasseh might explain why Lehi seems out of touch with things in Jerusalem. -

This dissertation brings together his thought in two apparently disparate discourses, uṣūl al-fiqh (jurisprudence) and iʿjāz al-Qurʾān (inimitability of the Qurʾān), to highlight how these discourses are actually in dialogue with each other. It explores the centrality of al-Bāqillānī’s theory of language in his thought and devotes particular attention to his understanding of the role of figurative language. -

Edited by Michael Bonner. Aldershot and Burlington: Ashgate, 2004. ISBN: 0-86078-716-8 (hbk). Review doi: 10.1558/CIS.v2i2.181 In an age when the relationship between the World of Islam and the West is seen by an alarming number of people in both regions as being one which involves either Crusade or Jihad, it is good to be reminded that the earliest contacts between Christians and Muslims involved Eastern, rather than Western, Christians, both inside and outside the Islamic empire, and that the very sharp contrasts between Christians and Muslims, which were drawn later by Western Christians did not always apply. Military confron- tations certainly did occur, but there were also significant contacts and exchanges through diplomacy, trade and culture: Byzantine craftsmen, after all, helped with the decoration of not only the Great Mosque in Damascus but also the Mosque of the Prophet in Medina in the first decade of the eighth century CE, and the earliest mosque in Constantinople, for the use of Muslim traders, was established just a couple of decades later. The multi-dimensional nature of the relationship between Arab Muslims and Byzantine Christians between approximately the years 600 and 1100 CE is made abundantly clear in this edited volume. The volume is part of the invaluable series published by Ashgate under the title “The Formation of the Classical Islamic World,” whose philosophy is to collect together and make available, in English translation if necessary, some of the leading articles which have been published over the last century or so on different aspects of classical Islam.
