The works Comprised constructing a 3G synthertic grass sports pitch on the site of am existing blaes sports pitch.
The works incorporated the installation of a drainage mat system, which also provided a protective layer between the new pitch construction and the existing blaes. This also assisted in removing the need to excavate the blaes and remove it to off-site tips.

The sandy nature of the indigenous soils allowed for novel drainage solutions to be adopted.

The works involved the construction of a new FIH Global Standard water-based hockey pitch. The project incorporated ballstop fencing, floodlighting and an automated pitch irrigation system. To facilitate the irrigation system and to minimise on-going costs to the client, an irrigation bore was drilled, and SEPA approval gained, for the abstraction of irrigation water.

This development was a joint venture between Heriot Watt University and Heart of Midlothian F.C., with Hearts using this as their training academy
As well as upgrading the existing natural grass pitches, the project also included the construction of a new UEFA size 3G synthetic grass pitch and 3G synthetic grass training hall, within the new facility building.
