Windriver Lane Reno, NV 89511, USA (Received April 18, 2021; Revised June 23, 2021; Accepted July 15, 2021) Submitted to ApJ ABSTRACT We calculate directly determined values for effective temperature (TEFF) and radius (R) for 191 giant stars based upon high resolution angular size measurements from optical interferometry at the Palomar Testbed Interferometer. Narrow- to wide-band photometry data for the giants are used to establish bolometric fluxes and luminosities through spectral energy distribution fitting, which allow for homogeneously establishing an assessment of spectral type and dereddened V0 − K0 color; these two parameters are used as calibration indices for establishing trends in TEFF and R. -

Problemy Matematyczne 13 (1992), 53-131 Atlas of extinction curves derived from ultraviolet TD — 1 spectra of bright stars Jacek Papaj1, Walter Wegner2, Jacek Krełowski1 The paper presents a collection of 178 extinction curves derived from the published set of low-resolution spectra acąuired with the aid of the spectrometer aboard the TD — 1 satellite. The bright stars, included in the sample of TD — 1 materiał are very likely to be, in many cases, obscured by single interstellar clouds, especially when characterized by Iow reddening. The latter case reąuires a very careful selection of unreddened standards for the extinction law determination. The special techniąue has been applied to get rid of the possible effects of spectral mismatch, making possible the derivation of extinction curves even in cases of very smali E b - v ’ s . The survey of such extinction curves contains thus many “pecułiar” cases— strongly differing from a “mean interstellar extinction curve” . The observed differences are certainly related to different parameters of interstellar grains contained in these clouds. The curves are presented in the form of plots, normalized to E b - v = 1. 1. Introduction Interstellar dust particles are unąuestioned source of the continuous extinction of starlight. Their physical andór geometrical properties are evidently responsible for the wavelength dependence of the interstellar extinction. The observed extinction law (extinction curve) is thus the 54 Jacek Papaj, Walter Wegner, Jacek Krelowski main source of information concerning the properties of smali dust par- ticles such as their Chemical composition, crystalline structure, shapes, sizes etc. Unfortunately this curve is typically rather featureless (Sav- age and Mathis, 1979) and thus the identification of many, possibly different grain parameters is difficult. -
The Southern B Star Spectroscopic Survey
The Southern B Star Spectroscopic Survey Dissertation zur Erlangung des Grades „Doktor der Naturwissenschaften“ an der Fakultät für Physik und Astronomie der Ruhr-Universität Bochum von Thomas Dembsky aus Steinfurt Bochum, 2016 1. Gutachter: Prof. Dr. Rolf Chini Ruhr-Universität Bochum, Bochum, Deutschland 2. Gutachter: Prof. Dr. Stefan Kimeswenger Leopold-Franzens-Universität Innsbruck, Innsbruck, Österreich Universidad Católica del Norte, Antofagasta, Chile Datum der Disputation: 29.06.2016 I To my family II Abstract This work presents the results of the Southern B Star Spectroscopic Survey. From 2008 to 2014, 580 B stars were observed with multi-epoch, high-resolution (λ/∆λ = 48,000) optical spectroscopy at Universitätssternwarte Bochum near Cerro Armazones in Chile. A total of 4019 spectra have been observed by our own spectrograph BESO supple- mented by 818 spectra downloaded from the ESO pipeline-processed data archive of the three high-resolution spectrographs FEROS, HARPS and UVES. Our survey splits up into two subsets limited to V ≤ 8 mag. The first set, comprising 258 B stars, is volume-limited to a distance of 125 parsec (δ < +25◦), while the additional subset of 322 B stars is randomly selected to provide a similar number of stars in each spectral class bin. Hence, this survey seems to be the most comprehensive attempt of a spectro- scopic B star survey up until today. The first part of this work analyses the spectroscopic binary fraction statistically to determine possible mass-dependencies. In general, the dimension of previously deter- mined SB fractions could be confirmed. As the spectral type B comprises both, high- and intermediate-mass stars, conclusions about the star formation process with regard to stellar multiplicity could be drawn. -
Transiting Sub-Stellar Companions of Intermediate-Mass Stars

Daniel Sebastian geboren am 03. M¨arz 1987 in Leipzig Gutachter 1. Prof. Dr. Artie P. Hatzes Th¨uringer Landessternwarte Tautenburg 2. Prof. Dr. C.W.M. Fridlund Leiden Observatory 3. -

The Bright Comets for 2010!
Professor Comet Report March 2010 The Bright Comets for 2010! C/2009 K5 (McNaught) This comet is currently bright at a visual magnitude of 9.1 and expected to reach visual Mag 8.8 by 27 March 2010. Then the comet is now predicted to reach a maximum brightness of 8 th magnitude by early April and stay at least above 9 th magnitude through mid – May. It will be in good position in the western half of the constellation Aquila as it will rise earlier in the morning sky throughout the procession of spring. It is presently located to the north of the western wing of Aquila about 172” of right ascension to the West and just under 8’8’ of Dec to the north of HD 183144 which is has a visual Mag of 6.32 and spectral class of B4III as of 22 March 2010. Recent comet observations show only a slightly elongated coma, but no dust tail is currently visible as of now. The coma has an estimated size of 6’, but that could get larger by a few more arcminutes as the comet approaches its maximum brightness. It currently has a solar elongation of 72° with a solar distance of 1.5202 AU placing it inside the orbit of Mars with a slightly shorter distance to Earth of 1.5033 AU. The degree of condensation as reported by Brian Cudnik of HAS is 6 and reported it to be spherical in shape. However, he reported seeing the comet in similar brightness to 81P/Wild (Visual Mag of 9.5)! Expect the comet to progress rapidly through the spring nights as it move through the summer triangle passing to the West of Sagitta by a few degrees during the week of 22 March 2010 and then pass through the East section of Vulpecula during the night of 31 March/1 April. -
