College, Balrampur (U.P.), India Abstract An attempt was made to study the conservation status of the fishes naturally occurring in Semara taal, near Shohratgarh of Siddharthnagar district of Uttar Pradesh. The study was conducted during Jan. to Dec. 2018. During exploration, a total of 29 species of fishes belonging to 20 genera, 15 families and 8 orders were identified. As per latest version of IUCN Red List, out of 29 species of fishes identified, 1 species comes under EN (endangered), 3 species come under NT (near threatened), 19 under LC (least concern) and 6 species are NE (not evaluated) so far. Keywords: Pisces, Fish species, Red list, Conservation status, Semara taal. Introduction Fishes are not only source of low-fat, high-quality proteinous food for human being but also a good source of omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin D, vitamin B2, calcium, phosphorus, iodine, iron, zinc, magnesium and potassium. Base Line Survey of Farmers In Siddharthnagar District By 1 A Chinese monk wrote “When Gautam Budhha visited Kapilvastu for the first time after attaining enlightenment; he gifted Kala Namak to the local people as “Prasad”. He asked them to sow it in marshy land, it is due to this reason this rice is also called as “Buddha’s Gift”. This rice was also found in the kitchen store of a house in UP in one of the excavation. 2 Survey in Village-Teknar-Babun Tiwari Focused Group Discussion in Village-Ramwapur Nankar Focused Group Discussion in Pakdi Village 3 1. Naugarh The district is known for the ruins of the Shakya Janapada, at Piprahwa which is 22 km away from the district headquarters Naugarh. The district was named after Prince Siddhartha, the pre-enlightenment name of Buddha, as he spent his early years (till the age of 29 years) in Kapilavastu, parts of which included territory in this district. The district borders Nepal’s district Kapilvastu on the north and Rupandehi on the northeast. Otherwise it is surrounded by other districts of Uttar Pradesh: Maharajganj on the east, Basti and Sant Kabir Nagar on the south, and Balrampur on the west. Siddarthnagar’s area is 2,895 km sqaure. • RELIGION and EDUCATIONAL BEHAVIOUR of MUSLIMS in RURAL INDIA Malik Raihan Ahmad
Man In India, 94 (1-2) : 271-285 © Serials Publications RELIGION AND EDUCATIONAL BEHAVIOUR OF MUSLIMS IN RURAL INDIA Malik Raihan Ahmad The paper illustrates the role of religion in shaping the educational behaviour of people, especially Muslims, in rural India. Rural society is relatively much influenced by religion. Religious ethos plays a significant role in determining the social conditioning of human beings. The paper draws attention towards the educational trends among rural Muslims in the State of Uttar Pradesh in India. The paper is empirically rich where it explains the demographic profile of sample villages of Siddharthnagar district. Five villages of five sub-divisions have been studied and an interpretative understanding has been attempted of Maktab (Muslim religious educational institutions) at the village level. It brings to light the educational behaviour of rural Muslims. The paper briefly aims to arrive at two points. First, parents realize the importance of modern education which is the need of the day, but at the same time they are not ready to leave their religious education. Rural Muslim population is inclined to adopt the curriculum which is the combination of both modern and traditional elements. Muslim religious educational institutions that have introduced modern subjects have attracted larger chunk of students although government schools have offered several incentives in various forms. Keywords: Educational behaviour, Muslims, Rural India, Religion Introduction Religion has been identified as important component of human societies from the very beginning. Instances, to explain certain unexplainable situations and experiences of everyday life through religion, have been noticed in both primitive and civilized societies.

  • PROJECT FACT SHEET Featured Project January 2018 Asia
PROJECT FACT SHEET Featured Project January 2018 Asia Initiatives Poultry Farming in Shohratgarh, India Mission of Asia Initiatives The mission of Asia Initiatives (AI) is to leverage the power of social capital to promote healthcare, education and sustainable development to bring positive change in the wellbeing of people in underserved communities. With a focus on women and their families, AI’s initiatives use transformative methodologies and technologies to empower people to take charge of their own development. Life Challenges of the Women Served Asia Initiatives works with the most disadvantaged women and girls (ages 5 and older) in poor communities. These women and their families live below the poverty line, which in India is set at $0.50/day in rural areas and $0.68/day in urban areas in terms of purchasing power parity (compared to the international poverty line of $1.90/day). However, these women are also caught in the poverty trap due to severe gender discrimination, caste, and societal mores. Most people in these communities are illiterate and there is high incidence of alcoholism among men, which often results in domestic violence. The most impoverished people in India are landless laborers in rural areas. Women usually get half the daily wages of men for similar work. The girl children in such families are expected to help with household chores and care of the younger siblings instead of going to school. They also get inadequate protein in their diet – about 70 percent of girl children in AI’s projects suffer from anemia. Girls are often married before they turn 18, and often give birth to babies who have low birthweight and consequent health issues such as stunting.
