BWTB Nov. 13Th Dukes 2016
1 Playlist Nov. 13th 2016 LIVE! From DUKES in Malibu 9AM / OPEN Three hours non stop uninterrupted Music from JPG&R…as we broadcast LIVE from DUKES in Malibu…. John Lennon – Steel and Glass - Walls And Bridges ‘74 Much like “How Do You Sleep” three years earlier, this is another blistering Lennon track that sets its sights on Allen Klein (who had contributed lyrics to “How Do You Sleep” those few years before). The Beatles - Revolution 1 - The Beatles 2 The first song recorded during the sessions for the “White Album.” At the time of its recording, this slower version was the only version of John Lennon’s “Revolution,” and it carried that titled without a “1” or a “9” in the title. Recording began on May 30, 1968, and 18 takes were recorded. On the final take, the first with a lead vocal, the song continued past the 4 1/2 minute mark and went onto an extended jam. It would end at 10:17 with John shouting to the others and to the control room “OK, I’ve had enough!” The final six minutes were pure chaos with discordant instrumental jamming, plenty of feedback, percussive clicks (which are heard in the song’s introduction as well), and John repeatedly screaming “alright” and moaning along with his girlfriend, Yoko Ono. Ono also spoke random streams of consciousness on the track such as “if you become naked.” This bizarre six-minute section was clipped off the version of what would become “Revolution 1” to form the basis of “Revolution 9.” Yoko’s “naked” line appears in the released version of “Revolution 9” at 7:53. -

The City Zero Hour The Rocket Epilogue [About this etext] PROLOGUE:The Illustrated Man IT was a warm afternoon in early September when I first met the Illustrated Man. Walking along an asphalt road, I was or the final leg of a two weeks’ walking tour of Wisconsin. Late in the afternoon I stopped, ate some pork, beans, and a doughnut, and was preparing to stretch out and read when the Illustrated Man walked over the hill and stood for a moment against the sky. I didn’t know he was Illustrated then. I only knew that he was tall, once well muscled, but now, for some reason, going to fat. I recall that his arms were long, and the hands thick, but that his face was like a child’s, set upon a massive body. He seemed only to sense my presence, for he didn’t look directly at me when he spoke his first words: “Do you know where I can find a job?” “I’m afraid not,” I said. “I haven’t had a job that’s lasted in forty years,” he said. Though it was a hot late afternoon, he wore his wool shirt buttoned tight about his neck. His sleeves were rolled and buttoned down over his thick wrists. -
Music Inspired by Astronomy, Organized by Topic an Annotated Listing by Andrew Fraknoi
Music Inspired by Astronomy, Organized by Topic An Annotated Listing by Andrew Fraknoi © copyright 2019 by Andrew Fraknoi. All rights reserved. Used with permission. Borresen: At Uranienborg Cage: Atlas Eclipticalis Glass: Orion Connections between astronomy and music have been proposed since the time of the ancient Greeks. This annotated listing of both classical and popular music inspired by astronomy restricts itself to music that has connections to real science -- not just an astronomical term or two in the title or lyrics. For example, we do not list Gustav Holst’s popular symphonic suite The Planets, because it draws its inspiration from the astrological, and not astronomical, characteristics of the worlds in the solar system. Similarly, songs like Soundgarden’s “Black Hole Sun” or the Beatles’ “Across the Universe” just don’t contain enough serious astronomy to make it into our guide. When possible, we give links to a CD and a YouTube recording or explanation for each piece. The music is arranged in categories by astronomical topic, from asteroids to Venus. Additions to this list are most welcome (as long as they follow the above guidelines); please send them to the author at: fraknoi {at} fhda {dot} edu Table of Contents Asteroids Meteors and Meteorites Astronomers Moon Astronomy in General Nebulae Black Holes Physics Related to Astronomy Calendar, Time, Seasons Planets (in General) Comets Pluto Constellations Saturn Cosmology SETI (Search for Intelligent Life Out There) Earth Sky Phenomena Eclipses Space Travel Einstein Star Clusters Exoplanets Stars and Stellar Evolution Galaxies and Quasars Sun History of Astronomy Telescopes and Observatories Jupiter Venus Mars 1 Asteroids Coates, Gloria Among the Asteroids on At Midnight (on Tzadik). -

John O'keefe Bypass 2020
1 Stroke July 26, 2017 I’m beginning to feel a numbing on the right side of my face along my jawline as if I have just received a gentle injection of Novocain. I am quite overwrought. My friend Elizabeth is driving me up Van Ness Avenue. I am going to have an angiogram. I was supposed to have it in the afternoon, but the doctor says I can have it two hours earlier if I get there by 10 a.m. The driving in San Francisco has gotten nuttier since the Trump takeover, and the hysteria of tail-end-rush-hour dawdlers is cramming Van Ness Avenue like plaque. The car will take a left on California Street in two blocks, then up the hill and we will be there. I can decide then if I will tell them about my stroke. By the time we enter the garage, the numbness in my right jaw has turned into paralysis. I can’t smile. I had something like this ten years ago but I don’t remember the results of the test. I was taking boxing at the time and out of nowhere my left arm became paralyzed and I couldn’t speak for about ten minutes. I had an ultrasound taken. It was expensive because I had no insurance. I paid for it out of pocket and put it out of my mind. After my silent heart attack, the cardiologist found that old ultrasound in my file and it revealed that I had had a great deal of plaque even then and that I had probably had a TIA, a transient ischemic attack, a mini stroke.
