In September 2014 a milestone was reached, the Common faults are: one billionth website went live on the world wide web, that’s one billion websites. Think about that number for 1/ Old photos of old vehicles now not in your fleet a moment, it is a colossal amount and the internet is 2/ A website that only fills half a page as it is so old growing so fast that number will almost certainly double 3/ Incorrect contact details in a much smaller amount of time than it took to get to 4/ Quote forms not working a billion in the first place. Every single second of every 5/ Website not properly optimised so nobody can find it single day over 15 million Google searches are entered and over 330 million e-mails are sent.....every.... single.... The nice thing about working in the coaching industry is second. that you won’t have a lot of competition for the terms you want to be found for. Let’s take Cheltenham as a random When you search for something on the internet Google example. If you do a google search for “coach hire doesn’t immediately go off and do your search for you Cheltenham” now, the top three, without even checking there and then, it is constantly, searching every line of will nearly all be coach brokers. every page of every website in the world and storing that information so when you do your search it already has the results. More about what Google is searching for later.

So, the questions are:

1/ do you have a website?

2/ if so, can your potential customers find it?

3/ if so does it convert lots of visitors into enquiries?

4/ do you respond to e mail enquiries?

5/ if not why not?

DTE’s research lead us to believe that approximately only 70% of operators have a website and of those who do you have a website? do a large percentage had one built and thought “job done” and have never updated it. Of the ones who have We were right. This image shows two brokers and one a website, have optimised it so it can be found and genuine coach company (a DTE member) actually who have kept it updated many don’t respond swiftly to based in Cheltenham. Now, if I were a customer looking to book a coach I wouldn’t know who Simple, most of your customers (even the older ones) was a bonafidi local coach company and who isn’t will look for you on the internet now, nowhere else. If and anyone not on the first page wouldn’t even get the you haven’t got a presence they will not find you, even chance to quote let alone get the job. your regular customers. You may get away with this for a few years but over time you won’t. In a nutshell, In fact Swanbrook, the genuine company actually have 3 your website is your shop window and therefore needs mentions on the first page to be in a prime, high street location AND attractively merchandised and kept regularly up to update. 1/ A Google adword 2/ A Google map reference What can be done? 3/ A naturally ranked mention

If you have a website then go to it now and have a look This is excellent work and is exactly the way it should at it as if you were a customer looking at it for the very be and if this isn’t how your company operate you first time. What do you think? Are you impressed? Does should be looking to DTE to get free advice on what to it reflect your company well? the cost of conventional companies (DTE enhanced and have authority from Google’s perspective. For members only) example, Don’t Travel Empty or Route One magazine.

Being in the coaching industry is great because it means you don’t have much competition for the words and terms your customers are searching for BUT if you don’t have a shop window, or have a shop window which is scruffy, out of date and down a back alley you won’t be getting much business from it.

If you are of the opinion that you’ve never had a website and it hasn’t affected you yet you would be correct. However, the key word here is yet. It will affect you enormously in the years to come.

To learn more about generating leads online, you can watch a presentation from the DTE event in York last if you have a website is it doing more harm than good? year: Introduction Let’s look at these 3 mentions and analyse them more https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gbx3YlHTCdY

1/ Google adwords.

Google makes all of its money from this but it is well worth your money. The ads are an online auction for certain terms your customers will be searching for. You simply, chose what these terms are (and Google will help you) then you decide what you want to pay “per click” (again, Google will help). You don’t pay anything unless a customer clicks your link and the amount you are willing to pay determines if your advert appears and if so where, just like a real life auction.

From our DTE members we’ve seen the fastest growing coach companies all have a Google AdWords Campaign.

2/ A Google map reference. Google is really keen to give a “searchee” the most accurate results over and above who are willing to pay them the most. If somebody searches for “coach Hire Cheltenham” Google want to can your customers find your website? display relevant results. Telling Google you are a “coach Hire” company and you are based in “Cheltenham” is obviously going to help them. You can do this free of charge and create a map reference as well for your potential and existing customers to find. This is free of charge

3/ To get naturally ranked again you need to tell Google where you are, who you are and what you do. You can see which search terms are working well from your Anthony Marett Google AdWords campaign, then add them to the right DTE Founder and Owner places on your website. This is known as on-page SEO. For most coach companies this will be enough to get of Maretts Chariots them onto page one of Google for search terms like ‘coach hire Cheltenham’. To get to number one your website needs links from other website that are relevant

Jamie Allan - Member of Chartered Institute of Marketing

My passion centres around helping Businesses grow using great Sales and Marketing strategies. Through the eighties I provided sales and marketing expertise introducing database profiling to selected Audi/VW dealers in their local markets increasing their sales by 20% to 30% year on year. In the nineties it was selling IT software solutions winning contracts with values up to £1 million. In the 2000’s I helped grow new and existing businesses - the largest contract being a £3 million framework with a leading Utility for a retail management consultancy in London.

Historically, local marketing is a particular strength of mine as it combines all the elements of the marketing mix. Recently I have helped grow businesses across the South-East, especially Norwich, and my focus with any client is to make things happen. I like to get under the skin of a company and come up with new and different ways to “break through the barrier” and get them more business. Being different and having the right people is critical for success.

Bob Talbot

I have been a Freelance Membership consultant for a diverse range of industries and professions including several of the Construction Industry Trade Associations, Engineering Associations, Brewing and Food Industries, Care Home Associations and ISO Qualification organisations and since 2012 Customer Service Manager for DTE. I am a Fellow of the Institute of Sales and Marketing Management and a Member of the Chartered Institute of Insurance.

After joining DTE three years ago to increase the membership base and during that time have travelled the length and breadth of the UK many times over meeting many interesting operators. My main interests are cars Malt Whisky and golf.

My name is Rosie. I have been working for DTE since April 2015, in the customer services department. I joined DTE to try my hand at a different job role. Having previously worked with children it was a very different type of role. I have learnt many new skills and have enjoyed the interaction with the coach operators but hate paper work.

In my spare time I teach dancing to children/ young adults aged 4-21 and I also run a brownie group, planning and creating activities for them to enjoy. My favourite colour is pink and my favourite food is fish and chips.

Nice to meet you.

Hi, I’m Eva-Marie and I have recently started working with Don’t Travel Empty as a Customer Service Manager? To encourage more member to link to the Minicasp coach management system. My whole career I have worked in Sales and love the transfer-ability, being able to work in and learn about new industries. I’m married with a young daughter and 2 dogs who keep me very busy. Alongside working for a local community charity and being co-president of the WI, I like to pursue my interests in essential oils and natural therapies. I think my husband forgets what I look like half the time!

Managing Director and Company Director of own businesses and others for 20+ years . Prior to this James Howell served in the Coldstream Guards and has extensive experience within corporate environments.

James has built numerous companies - from blank pieces of paper to developing multi-million turnover businesses and in one case employing over 1,200 staff. In his business career, he has always been focussed on delivering solutions for companies. This included working in the online marketing arena, where companies tend to be misinformed.

James has a real understanding of business growth and what needs to be trained to improve sales and operational performance.

04 Members Benefit Guide | November 2015 My name is Roan from DTE and I specialise in Customer Service & breakdowns. I’ve been with DTE since early 2014 and my job revolves around making sure that Don’t Travel Empty users are well looked after & feel comfortable asking any questions.

I’m always keen to learn and often spend my time outside of work investigating the latest improvements that can be made to make everything that little bit easier. I am a work-a- holic with a keen sense of humour and various interests to boot. Some people go the extra mile for work, however because I cycle 10 miles to and from work everyday but I live only 2 miles away, I make go the extra 16!

Emma Richardson - I am a mum of a four year old little boy, who lives on the Surrey / Sussex border. I started my career in medical recruitment and worked in that industry for five years before getting married and moving from London. It was then that my career changed direction and I moved in telecoms, working for Openreach.

I have recently started along my new path with Don’t Travel Empty as they are a friendly company who allow me to work flexibly, to fit in around my sons schooling. I am hoping to make a big impact in this new venture and make a real success of it.

Fred Cohen - I have been a developer for nearly 10 years and work with many companies to improve their brand, website and online presence. I have been working with Don’t Travel Empty for 4 years responsible for all the programming and design on the site until we moved the development in-house last year. I loved the concept of DTE from the start. I have a passion for behavioural economics and data driven decisions.

I am a husband and father of 2 and spend as much time with them as I can when not working. I am also a geek that loves to take things apart to see how they work, however what makes me different is i usually end up hiding the pieces in the shed and denying all knowledge when I fail to put them back together!

Martin Harper - Consultant and Developer

Martin has been involved with DTE since 2010. Over the years he has taken on various projects contributing to the development of DTE as a whole. Since May 2014 Martin has taken on more involvement in the generation of new development routes, managing the release of those projects and building new features for the site.

His most recent projects include the Master Map and Coachbook.

Anthony Marett - Having gone to college to become a journalist it became apparent early on that wasn’t for me so I drifted into retailing. After 10 years I started work as an instructor at my parents field study centre in North Norfolk and we drifted in coaching (we now run Maretts Chariots with 20 coaches) and this spawned the DTE concept.

I have been married for 22 years to Michelle who runs her own dance school and we live in a lovely little cottage in the country with our 3 dogs.

I love football, playing the drums and Friday nights in with a take away and a can of San Miguel, heaven J
