Sie stellt selbst-administrierte mobile Forschungsmethoden, deren technische Ver- ortung und den Mobile Marketing Hintergrund dar. Eine Unterteilung von mobilen Methoden erfolgt anhand der Kriterien ‚Push‘- vs. ‚Pull‘- Rekrutierung und ‚Kontextbezug der Studie‘. Aktuelle Befunde zur Qualität von mobilen Erhebungsmethoden werden vorgestellt. Ausgewählte Fragen der Qualität von mobilen, selbst-administrierten Methoden werden in drei empirischen Studien, jeweils eine Studie einer Kategorie mobiler Metho- den, behandelt. Eine Push-Studie ohne Kontext-Bezug untersucht den Response auf zwei technische Einladungsvariationen ‚WAP-Push‘ vs. ‚SMS plus Link‘ und zwei Textvariationen in der Einladung einer mobilen, web- basierten Befragung. Ausgesendet wurden insgesamt 59.986 Einladungen. Der Rücklauf ist mit n=650 bzw. 1.2% gering. Die Responseraten der beiden Einladungsvarianten sind vergleichbar hoch. Eine Ursache für die geringe Beteiligung sind technische Einschränkungen der Versand-Modi. In einer explorativen Studie zu ortsbezogenen, mobilen Umfragen mit n=31 Teilnehmern, werden Rahmenbedingungen für eine erfolgreiche Durchführung diskutiert, wie beispielsweise zeitgerechte und wahrnehmba- re Einladungen im Kontext. Die Erhebung erfolgte mit einer mobilen Web-Umfrage-Software, welche Push-Einladungen im Orts-Kontext an die Respondenten sandte. Eine mobile Pull-Studie im Kontext mit n=51 Stu- dierenden, unter Nutzung eines Mobile Blogging Systems, belegt die Chan- cen und Limitierungen dieser Methode für die qualitative, ethnographische Marktforschung. Mit der mobilen Methode werden insbesondere unmittel- bare Eindrücke aus dem Lebensumfeld erfasst. 5 Abstract This work examines specific aspects of methodological quality of self- administered mobile market research methods using established quality criteria in empirical social research: Coverage, sampling, nonresponse and measurement. Self-administered mobile methods are described with their technological and Mobile Marketing background. According to the criteria ‘Push’ vs. ‘Pull’ and ‘Context-reference’ mobile methods are segmented. Current research results regarding quality of mobile methods are summa- rized. Selected questions of quality of self-administered mobile methods are researched in three empirical studies, each for one type of mobile methods. A context-independent Push-study observes the response-rates with the variation of WAP-Push and SMS plus Link technology and two options of invitations texts in a web-based mobile survey. In total 59.986 invitations were sent out to respondents. Overall response was low with n=650 and 1.2%. Response-rates of both invitation modes were compara- ble. One reason for this result are technical issues of invitation modes. A location-based mobile Push-study with n=31 respondents shows determin- ing factors for response such as prompt and recognisable invitations in the context. Data-collection in this study has been done with a mobile web- based survey application which sends location-aware Push-invitations to respondents. A Pull study in the context amongst n=51 students using a mobile blogging system examines the benefits and limitations for qualita- tive, ethnographic market research. At the same time, the nature of the Internet has been undergoing a revolution labelled ‘web 2.0’. Most web 2.0 tools are also designed to be mobile friendly, allowing reading and updating of web 2.0 content from mobile phones, and also featuring enhanced mobile affordances such as photo and video blogging (from cameraphones), and geotagging (from GPS equipped smartphones). Hence mobile web 2.0 provides a platform for wider access than traditional computing that is context independent, facilitating ‘authentic’ learning environments (A. Herrington & Herrington, 2007, 2006; Jan Herrington, Herrington, Mantei, Olney, & Ferry, 2009) beyond the boundaries of the traditional tertiary classroom.

The latter becomes even more challenging when mobile multi- blogging appears, and any user can access many blogs and blog-services in parallel using a multitude of available mobile user devices. SmartScribo is a reference application for mobile multi-blogging based on the Smart-M3 information sharing platform. In this state-of-the-progress paper we consider the problem of personalized blog recommendation focusing on basic recommendation system design for SmartScribo. In accordance with the ubiquitous computing vision, details of the search mechanism are made invisible to users; they are fed only with recommendations for “worth-to-read” blogs. For each user and tag the recommendation system computes a personalized tag rank that reflect recent activity of the user for this tag. Then a small set of blogs with high-ranked tags can be retrieved from the blogosphere and provided to the user. The core of our design is a tag ranking model to support dynamic personalized rank computation in Smart-M3 smart spaces. Following the successful instigation of a mobile Web 2.0 project in the third year of a Bachelor of Product Design course during semester one, similar projects were initiated in semester two within the first-year and second-year Bachelor of Product Design courses. A common methodology for supporting and facilitating mobile Web 2.0 projects was used for all three projects. The projects were designed to explore the potential of mobile Web 2.0 tools to enhance both the formal and informal teaching and learning environments with a focus upon mobile blogging (moblogging). A comparison of student and teaching staff feedback from each of the three projects provided a basis for identifying and illustrating critical success factors within similar m-learning scenarios. Critical success factors identified include: the importance of the pedagogical integration of the technology into the course assessment, lecturer modelling of the pedagogical use of the tools, the need for regular formative feedback from lecturers to students, and the appropriate choice of mobile devices and software to support the pedagogical model underlying the course.

While primarily web-based, these services are increasingly available on mobile platforms. Communities and individuals share information, photos, music, videos, provide commentary and ratings/reviews, and more. In essence, social media is about sharing information, consuming information, and repurposing content. Social media technologies identified in this report are centered on social networking services, media sharing, blogging and microblogging. The purpose of this Resource Guide is to provide baseline information about use and application of social media platforms around the globe. It is not intended to be comprehensive as social media evolves on an almost daily basis. The long-term goal of this work is to identify social media information about all geographic regions and nations. The primary objective is that of understanding the evolution and spread of social networking and user-generated content technologies internationally. iii Periodic Updates This document is dynamic and will be updated periodically as funding permits.
