As a student of this school and community, you should have, by now, adopted certain prescribed attitudes and values, which typify a student approaching maturity. The rewards and satisfactions you receive for your schoolwork and activities will be equal to your determination and eagerness to seek excellence. Likewise, the knowledge from your work will be directly related to your effort. We are now in an era in which the growth of knowledge is more rapid than ever before. To be prepared for a successful life, today’s students must not be satisfied with present knowledge but must also be motivated to be involved in the life long process of acquiring knowledge. Knowledge is indeed that which, next to virtue, truly and essentially raises one man above another. A truly educated individual in today’s society is aware of the infinite dimensions of knowledge and possesses the skill to explore the vastness of knowledge. (In the words of —Addison) Educational Philosophy As an integral part of the community, Peru High School should provide experience and opportunities for all students to develop the general skills needed for the multiple roles of adulthood. The school should help the student develop respect for the dignity of self and others, and grow in his/her insight and tolerance in order to be able to live and work cooperatively within society. Peru High School encourages students to remain in or return to school until they are ready for higher education, vocational/technical training, or employment. Ultimately, the function of the school is to establish a program of education that will encour- age each individual to develop intellectual, social, and physical abilities and emotional well- being so that the individual may live a maximally satisfying life and contribute significantly as a citizen of the world. Social and aesthetic values should also be fostered within the school environment toward the development of a more humanistic interaction, in society All members of the faculty should set an example of scholarship and intellectual curiosity in his own field of teaching, and demonstrate active interest in all phases of education.     August 13, 2018 The regular meeting of the Board of School Trustees was called to order at 6:35 p.m. by Mrs. Shuey. Mrs. Shuey led the Board and audience in the Pledge of Allegiance. All Board members were present. Also present were Mr. Watkins, Mr. Durrwachter, Mr. Hall, Mrs. Conley, Mr. Morris, Mrs. Mongosa, Mr. Frushour, Mr. Snyder, Mayor Greer, a local news media reporter, and a patron. On motion by Mr. Comerford, seconded by Mr. Mullett, the Board unanimously approved two changes to the public agenda. On motion by Mr. Comerford, seconded by Ms. Rice, the Board approved, the public agenda with two additions, the memorandum of August 6 and 8, and the personnel report by a vote of 5-2.     PERU DAILY TRIBUNE 2009 Obituaries Collected by Régine Brindle Peru Tribune Obits 2009 Saturday, January 03, 2009 Ronald Dallas Cantrell, 52, Jonesboro, formerly of Marion, passed away at 7:17 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008 at Howard Regional Health System in Kokomo. He was born Aug. 25, 1956 in Logan, W.Va. to Amos Jr. and Nina Jo (Moore) Cantrell. Ronald attended North Miami High School and was a surveyor with John Stephens in Wabash. In high school he played football and was a member of the F.F.A. He was a member of the A.B.A.T.E. Club of Kokomo, the National Rifle Association and was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. He was a Notre Dame football fan and enjoyed singing karaoke. He is survived by son, Ronnie Lancaster, Macy; a daughter, Lacey Phillips and husband William, Peru; his father and step mother, Amos Cantrell Jr. and wife Polly, Wabash; two grandchildren, Dalin Phillips and Analey Phillips, both of Peru; three brothers, Donald Lee Cantrell and wife Kristy, Darrell Ray Cantrell and wife Ty-Ann, and John David Cantrell, all of Wabash; two sisters, Ilah Ann Paige and husband Norman, Pensacola, Fla., and Lisa Hayslip, Wabash; several nieces and nephews, and Max, his dog. He was preceded in death by his mother in 1979.
