Diese Tagung schloss an die Vorjahresveranstaltung an, die das Thema Von Menschenhandel und Menschenpreisen behandelt hat.1 Während damals der Mensch als Ganzes in seiner Rolle als Sklave/Slavin, Gefangene(r), potentielles Unfallopfer oder Patient(in) im Mittelpunkt stand, ging es diesmal gezielt um den Körper oder Teile des- selben. Solche Körperteile waren immer schon begehrt, heute vielleicht am stärksten in der Medizin, wenn Organe oder Gewebe längst ganz real und teils sogar offen gehandelt werden, oder in der Versicherungswirtschaft, wo ganz natürlich und je nach Bedarf und Bewertung auch Teile von Menschen gegen Schäden versichert werden, wie z.B. die Stimmbänder von Opernsänger(inne)n, die Nasen von Weinkenner(inne)n, die Beine von Fußballern oder der Busen von Popsängerinnen. -

Despite wide acceptance and ready access to a number of bone allografts, there is often insufficient knowledge of the origin of these allografts and the processing methods. This brief review paper summarizes contemporary knowledge of the biologic properties of bone transplants used in dentistry and discusses their safety. It is intended to aid dental practitioners in selecting suitable bone allograft materials for their patients. It does not deal with bone autografts nor does it compare autografts and allografts. Long-term clinical results with allografts processed by different methods are also outside of the scope of this review. 1 Editorial Perspectives on Organ Transfer and Bio-Identity Medical and Scientific Advances in the Twentieth and Early Twenty-Fi
sites: new series · vol 8 no 1 · 2011 – editorial – EDITORIAL PersPectives on organ transfer and bio-identity Medical and scientific advances in the twentieth and early twenty-first centu- ries have transformed the boundaries between the human body, other forms of life and technology. Our moral, ethical, and legal institutions and values have consequently come under increasing pressure to respond. We need new ways of understanding these changes, as well as new models to interpret and adjudicate the moral bases these changes hold for the future of social relations and human life. In different ways the articles in this volume respond to this call, scoping out a philosophical anthropology of organ and tissue donation and transplantation in light of biomedical and technological innovation. There is an established international tradition of empirical research in medical anthropology and the sociology of health and illness on organ donation and transplantation (see Fox and Swazey, 1992, 2009; Healy, 2006; Lock, 2002; San- ner, 1994, 2001; Scheper-Hughes and Wacquant, 2002; Simmons et al., 1977). Until recently, however, little empirical research on the topic has been under- taken in New Zealand. The articles in this special issue of Sites seek to remedy the dearth of local research in this area, grounding discussion about organ and tissue donation in burgeoning interdisciplinary debates around embodiment, identity and relatedness and against the backdrop of public health initiatives to share and exchange corporeality. In so doing, each article presents research highlighting some of the central analytical themes that have dominated social science work on tissue dona- tion and organ transplantation over the course of the last two decades. -

ABSTRACT The gap between the huge demand for organs and their inadequate supply is the issue of concern. Organ shortage is a global issue and deceased organ donation is the major sustainable way out. There are stringent criteria instituted for the retrieval, preservation, and transportation of donor organs. India slips to the 40th rank in the study of 69 countries in terms of the number of organ transplants per million population. However, the country has significant potential for deceased organ donation due to a higher proportion of fatal road traffic accidents. There are various programs, policy, legislation, organizations including observa- tion of ‘Organ Donation day’ addressing organ donation. From the Transplantation of Human Organ Act to National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization, each modality promotes organ donation &transplantation. There are various determinants of organ donation especially influencing the decision making for donation. It is the need of the hour to address wherein the process, and for what reason, potential donors fail to become actual donors. -

These scaffolds exhibit some unique properties such as inherent conductivity, mechanical and surface properties. Traditionally, a conjugated polymer is used to constitute a conductive network. An alternative method currently being used is nanofillers as additives in the polymer. In this dissertation, we fabricated an intelligent scaffold for use in tissue engineering applications. -
