    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE JIMMY LEWIS TO BE HONORED WITH 2014 TEWAARATON LEGENDS AWARD WASHINGTON, January 13, 2014 – The Tewaaraton Foundation has named former Navy lacrosse star and National Lacrosse Hall of Famer James C. "Jimmy" Lewis as the recipient of the fourth annual Tewaaraton Legends Award. "Jimmy Lewis is a natural selection for the fourth Tewaaraton Legends Award," said Jeff Harvey, Chairman of The Tewaaraton Foundation. “He was an outstanding player during a championship era at Navy and upon graduation he went on to serve his country.” Lewis began his illustrious career at Uniondale (N.Y.) High School on Long Island where he was a standout attackman from 1960-62. An All-Nassau County pick for three years, he won the Rutgers Cup and the Outstanding Player Award for Long Island lacrosse in his senior year. In 1966, The Baltimore Sun called Lewis the "greatest living lacrosseman.” Lewis concluded his college career as Navy’s leading scorer and now ranks sixth on Navy's career scoring list with 169 points (78g, 91a). He is one of only four players in program history to score 75 or more goals and dish out 75 or more assists. Lewis led the Midshipmen in scoring and earned first-team All-America honors in each of his three years at Navy (at the time freshman were not permitted to play varsity sports.)     FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE TEWAARATON AWARD ANNOUNCES 2016 MEN’S AND WOMEN’S WATCH LISTS NEW YORK, February 23 – The Tewaaraton Foundation has announced the 2016 Tewaaraton Award men’s and women’s watch lists. The lists include the top players across all three divisions of NCAA lacrosse and highlight the early contenders for the 2016 Tewaaraton Award, presented by Under Armour. Among the 2016 watch lists returnees are six former finalists. Four of the five 2015 women’s finalists return to the watch list, including 2014 and 2015 winner Taylor Cummings (Maryland), Sarah Mannelly (Boston College), Barbara Sullivan (Notre Dame), Kayla Treanor (Syracuse). Myles Jones (Duke) and Matt Kavanagh (Notre Dame), each finalists a year ago, return on the men’s side. “The national reach of quality players is evident in this list, with players from all regions of the country, along with a strong group of six former winners and finalists,” said Jeff Harvey, chairman of The Tewaaraton Foundation. “As the season unfolds, we are excited for another deserving group of Tewaaraton Award candidates to emerge and we look forward to welcoming them to Washington, D.C. in early June.” The Tewaaraton Award, presented by Under Armour, annually honors the top male and female college lacrosse player in the United States.     2012 Media Guide About Major League Lacrosse BACKGROUND: During the summer of 1998, Jake “Body By Jake” Steinfeld was inspired to start a professional outdoor lacrosse league after reading a magazine article about the growth of the sport of lacrosse. Steinfeld sought out a contributor to the article, Owner and President of Warrior Lacrosse Dave Morrow, a leading lacrosse equipment manufacturer, to discuss formation of such a league. In February 1999 Steinfeld and Morrow joined forces with Steinfeld’s friend and business associate Tim Robertson, Chairman of Bay Shore Enterprises and former CEO of the Family Channel, to form Major League Lacrosse, LLC, a Virginia limited liability company. In 2003, New Balance Athletic Shoe Inc. came on board as a Founding Member of Major League Lacrosse, as well as an Anchor Level League Sponsor. Major League Lacrosse began play in 2001 to capitalize on the growing demand for world-class field lacrosse driven by dramatic growth in the U.S. lacrosse market. The MLL was praised and heralded for its on-field play, regarded as the best ever seen. With a year-on-year attendance increase, Major League Lacrosse has continued to lead the sport of lacrosse into the mainstream of competitive team sports. OUR TEAMS: MLL is comprised of eight teams across the US and Canada. The Boston Cannons, Long Island Lizards, and Chesapeake Bayhawks (formerly Baltimore and Washington) have been members of the League since its inception in 2001. The Denver Outlaws began play in 2006 as part of the League’s western expansion. The Hamilton Nationals (formerly Toronto) joined MLL in 2009 as the League’s first international team.
