There are five apparatus used in individual rhythmic gymnastics, however, only four are used in any one competitive cycle. In the Individual all-around in Tokyo there will be hoop, ball, clubs and ribbon. Groups will perform two exercises, one in which all five gymnasts use the same apparatus (five balls), and a second, in which they use a combination of two apparatus (three hoops + two pairs of clubs). Twenty-six gymnasts compete in the individual all-around - qualification, with four apparatus being performed. The top 10 ranked gymnasts from the qualification advance to the final (including all gymnasts tied for 10th place, after all Olympic tiebreaking rules have been applied). Fourteen groups with five gymnasts per group compete in the group all-around - qualification. The top eight ranked groups from the qualification advance to the final (including all tied for 8th place after all Olympic tie breaking rules have been applied). There are two competition phases in each event: • Individual all-around qualification • Individual all-around final and • Group all-around qualification • Group all-around final The ranking of each phase is based on the scores achieved in that phase. DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE FIG WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS AND THE OLYMPIC GAMES Fewer individuals and groups can compete at the Olympic Games. The International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) World Championships also feature a team ranking (based on individual qualification results), individual apparatus titles, and group titles for each of the two exercises. CHANGES SINCE THE RIO 2016 OLYMPIC GAMES The code of points has been changed. The following apparatus will be used in Tokyo: GRY --------------------------- --_02A Report Created THU 1 JUL 2021 09:30 Page 1 of 3 Ariake Gymnastics Centre Rhythmic Gymnastics 有明体操競技場 新体操 / Gymnastique rythmique Centre de gymnastique d'Ariake • In the individual competition: apparatus remain the same as for the Rio 2016 Games • In the group competition: five balls, instead of five ribbons, will be used in the first exercise, and three hoops/two pairs of clubs instead of three pairs of clubs/two hoops in the second exercise. SPORT RULES AND PROCEDURES Jury composition Jury D evaluates the number of elements and their level of difficulty; Jury E evaluates musical accompaniment and artistic components (choreography) and execution (technical evaluation of the apparatus, body movements, music, etc.). The reference judges' system is used to establish an automatic, and time saving, correction system in the case of problems with execution scores. All reference judges will be appointed by the FIG. If the difference between the E-score and the R-score exceeds the pre-defined permitted tolerances, the E-score will be replaced by the average of the R-score and the E-score. Otherwise the execution judges score will remain unchanged. Distribution and calculation of scores Final score = D + E – penalties (neutral deductions, if any) For example: D: 7.900 E: 8.100 Final score: 7.900 + 8.100 = 16.000 pts. Tiebreak rules and procedures The FIG tiebreaking rules are presented in the FIG technical regulations and define how to determine which gymnast or group should prevail in case of equality of points. In rhythmic gymnastics, the main principles are the following: Individual all-around qualification for the all-around final In case of a tie for any place, ties will be broken by the following criteria: 1. The sum of the three highest final apparatus scores 2. The sum of the two highest final apparatus scores 3. The highest total execution score (four apparatus) 4. The highest total execution score (three best apparatus) 5. The highest total execution score (two best apparatus) 6. The highest total difficulty score (four apparatus) 7. The highest total difficulty score (three best apparatus) 8. The highest total difficulty score (two best apparatus) 9. If the gymnasts remain tied, they will share the same classification. The highest total execution score (four apparatus) 2. The lowest execution technical deductions (four apparatus) 3. The highest total difficulty score (four apparatus) 4. If the gymnasts remain tied, they will share the same classification. Group all-around qualification and final In case of a tie at any place, ties will be broken by the following criteria: 1. The highest total execution score (two exercises). 2. The lowest execution technical deductions (two exercises). 3. The highest total difficulty score (two exercises). 4. If the groups remain tied, they will share the same classification. Penalties/disqualification rules Scoring penalties are incurred for major mistakes or misconduct such as loss and retrieval of apparatus, leaving the floor area, using non-standard apparatus, broken apparatus, contact of the apparatus with the ceiling, communication by the coach or group members during the exercise etc. There is also a stringent dress code for outfits regarding the cut and fit of the leotard - a gymnast can be penalised for inadvertently revealing a bra strap, for example, or if their outfit is decorated in anything other than an abstract design. Penalties range from 0.10 - 1.00 points per occurrence. Score inquiries Inquiries are allowed only for the difficulty scores. They must be made verbally, immediately after the display of the score and then must be confirmed in writing. Only the accredited coaches next to the competition area are entitled to submit an inquiry. Late verbal inquiries will be rejected. An NOC may not inquire about a gymnast/group from another NOC. Every inquiry must be examined by the superior jury and a final decision (which may not be appealed) must be taken. The detailed procedure is outlined in the FIG technical regulations. In exceptional circumstances, the FIG might issue an official communication (C67) with an explanation of the situation. It is necessary to protect the current and future health conditions of young gymnasts, especially in the growth process. There is a lack of knowledge about training education on rhythmic gymnastics. To suggest innovative changes, the current study aimed to analyze the scores (D, E, and total scores) of the first 24 gymnasts competing in 34th and 36th Rhythmic Gymnastics European Championships (ECh). Research data were collected from 24 rhythmic gymnasts’ scores, from the 34th ECh and 36th ECh. Difficulty (D), Execution (E), and total scores for hoop, ball, clubs, ribbon were analyzed. Conformity of data to normal distribution was assessed with the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. Variables with normal distribution were compared by one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA)/independent samples t-test and for variables not fitting normal distribution, Mann Whitney U/Kruskal Wallis H test was used.

  • 2021 Guide to Gymnastics Team
At Spokane Gymnastics, the coaches focus on encouraging the development of strength, skill and character through gymnastics training in a positive environment. We strive to offer a program where every student has the greatest opportunity to succeed, no matter what their level or goal. We strive to balance teaching proper gymnastics skills, terminology and progressions in a fun environment where students are taught by breaking down the elements of the particular skills, hands- on “spotting” and training, low student-to-coach ratios and positive reinforcement. We believe that gymnastics is not only one of the most rewarding sports with unlimited benefits to other activities, but also FUN! Gymnastics not only increases strength, flexibility and balance, it is also encourages hard work, discipline and determination. Women's Artistic Gymnastics There are four events in Women's Artistic Gymnastics – Vault, Uneven Bars, Balance Beam and Floor Exercise. Although most sports have seasons, gymnastics is a year-round commitment for athletes at the upper levels. Vault A successful vault begins with a strong, accelerated run. The best vaulters explode off the springboard with tremendous quickness during the pre-flight phase of the vault. When the gymnast pushes off of the vault table (also informally referred to as the horse) judges look for proper body position and instantaneous propulsion and explosive force. They watch the height and distance traveled as well as the number of flips and twists. Gymnasts strive to stick their landing by taking no extra steps. Uneven Bars Many consider the uneven bars the most spectacular of women's events, since to be successful the gymnasts must display strength as well as concentration, courage, coordination and split-second timing.

  • The Relative Contribution of Physical Fitness to the Technical Execution Score in Youth Rhythmic Gymnastics
Journal of Human Kinetics volume 51/2016, 143-152 DOI: 10.1515/hukin-2015-0183 143 Section III – Sports Training The Relative Contribution of Physical Fitness to the Technical Execution Score in Youth Rhythmic Gymnastics by Olyvia Donti1, Gregory C. Bogdanis1, Maria Kritikou1, Anastasia Donti1, Kalliopi Theodorakou1 This study examined the association between physical fitness and a technical execution score in rhythmic gymnasts varying in the performance level. Forty-six young rhythmic gymnasts (age: 9.9 ±1.3 years) were divided into two groups (qualifiers, n=24 and non-qualifiers, n=22) based on the results of the National Championships. Gymnasts underwent a series of physical fitness tests and technical execution was evaluated in a routine without apparatus. There were significant differences between qualifiers and non-qualifiers in the technical execution score (p=0.01, d=1.0), shoulder flexion (p=0.01, d=0.8), straight leg raise (p=0.004, d=0.9), sideways leg extension (p=0.002, d=0.9) and body fat (p=.021, d=0.7), but no differences were found in muscular endurance and jumping performance. The technical execution score for the non-qualifiers was significantly correlated with shoulder extension (r=0.423, p<0.05), sideways leg extension (r=0.687, p<0.01), push ups (r=0.437, p<0.05) and body fat (r=0.642, p<0.01), while there was only one significant correlation with sideways leg extension (r=0.467, p<0.05) for the qualifiers. Multiple regression analysis revealed that sideways leg extension, body fat, and push ups accounted for a large part (62.9%) of the variance in the technical execution score for the non-qualifiers, while for the qualifiers, only 37.3% of the variance in the technical execution score was accounted for by sideways leg extension and spine flexibility.
