No. 13 DISCUSSION: The Walk of Fame Committee ofthe Hollywood Chamber of Commerce has submitted a request for insertion into the Hollywood Walk of Fame the name of Forest Whitaker. The ceremony is scheduled for Monday,April 16, 2007 at 11 :30 a.m. The communicant's request is in aecordance with City Council action of October 18, 1978, under Council File No. 78-3949. Following the Council's action of approval, and upon proper application and payment of the required fee, an installation permit can be secured at 201 N. Figueroa Street, 3rd Floor, Counter "23". Cbismire I,eron Gubler CamiIne Goglia FOREST WHITAKR Biography Forest \Xitaker is one of Hollywood's most accomplished actors/ directors/producers who has showcased his talents in a multitude of demandig and diverse roles. The year 2007 should be a year to remember for Whtaker. After winning almost every Critics Award, he was awarded the Golden Globe for Best Actor, the Best Actor SAG and BAFrA Awards, and nominated for an Academy Award for his performance as Uganda dictator ldi Amn in Fox Searchhght's "The Last King of Scotland." The fil is a historic drama which documents the regime's brutality durig the 1970's as seen through the eyes of his personal physician. And in addition to ths acclaim, his independent fIlm "American Gun," a movie which he produced and starred in, has been nominated for an Independent Spirit Award. He has garnered critical attention for his performance on this season's "The Shield" opposite Michael Chiks. In addition, he completed the suspense thrier ''Vantage Point" for Sony Pictures opposite Dennis Quaid and Matthew Fox. He recently wrapped "Where the Wild Things Are" for Warner Bros. and Play tone for diector Spil,e J onze. The fil wi be a mi of live-action, aniation and puppetr and is an adaptation of the Maurce Sendak chidren's classic book. The film has a 2008 release. He can also be seen in the upcoming ensemble "The Air I Breathe" with Kevin Bacon and Andy Garcia. At the 2005 Toronto International Fil Festival, \Xitakcr wowed audiences with 3 outstanding films. He starred in a compellng, dark t1riler entitled "A Little Trip to Heaven" opposite Julia Stiles. With three college scholarships already under his belt, Whtaker received a 4" scholarship, set up by Sir John Gielgud, upon his entrance to the drama program at Berkeley. A seasoned stage veteran at 21, baby-faced Whitaker made his fil debut in the 1982 fil "Past Times at Ridgemont High." From that point onward, Whitaker has been makig history. In 1988, Whitaker was named Best Actor at The Cannes Fil Festival for his brilant portrayal of jazz legend Charlie Parker in Clint Eastwood's "Bird," a role for which he also received a Golden Globe nomination. \Xitaker earned \\1.despread recognition for his performance as 'lody,' the hostage British soldier in Neil Jordan's Academy-Award winning fil "The Crying Game." On television, \Vitaker garnered a Cable Ace Award nomination for his performance in the Shov.i:e original film, "Last Light," diected by Kiefer Sutherland. He also starred in the I-BO presentation "Criminal Justice," for which he earned a Cable Ace Award nomiation, and "The Enemy \Xlithin," for which \X!itaker received a Screen Actor's Guild nomination. In 2000, W11itakcr played the title role nf a spiritual gangster 11 "Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai," diected by Jim J armusch. The film premiered at the 1999 Cannes Festival and screened at The 1999 Toronto Film Festival to critical acclai. "Ghost Dog" was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for Best Pcature. The film's soundtrack was a co-venture with \"Xlhitaker's own company Spirit Dance. In 2001, Whitaker appeared in "Fourth Angel," an action thrillef set in London, opposite Jeremy Irons. Forest starred in and executive produced the TV mii-series "Feast of All Saints" which won an Emmy and was nominated in two other categories. Before that he starred in, and executive produced, "Green Dragon," the first feature fil production of ths entity, which won the Humanitas Award in addition to the Audience Award at the South by Southwest Film Festival. He also produced ''Door to Door" starring Bil Macy for TNT under the Spirit Dance banner. Ths TV fil was nomiated for two Golden Globes, one Emmy, and was also honored by the American Film Institute. In 2002, Whtaker starred in the ASCAP award wining fil, "The Panic Room" by diector David Fincher for Columbia Pictures and was nominated for a Black Reel Award for Best Supportig Actor. Whtaker starred in Joel Schumacher's "Phone Booth" for Twentieth Centu Fox opposite Colin Fartell, where he received Black Reel and Image award nominations for Best Supportig Actor and Outstanding Supportig Actor in a motion picture. In 2003, Whtaker appeared to critical acclai opposite Ossie Davis in the Showte movie "Deacons for Defense", where he received a SAG nomiation for Best Actor in a Television Movie or lYniserics. Forest produced "Chasing Pari," the first major studio romantic comedy aied squarely at the Hispanic movie going market for FOX 2000 through SDE. His most recent diectoril endeavor; entitled "The Pirst Daughter," for New Regency, was a romantic comedy starring Katie Holmes Whitaker made his feature-film diectig debut with the critically acclaimed, box-office hit ''Waiting to Exhale" for Twentieth Century Pox. He first gaied recognition as a director for his debut film, the 1993 HBO original "Strapped," for which he received "Best New Director" honors at the Toronto Film FestivaL.
