Executive Board of the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women First regular session 12 February 2019 10:00 2nd plenary meeting Conference Room 2 Executive Board members, observers and other organizations attending the session are requested to e-mail their credentials (names and titles of each delegation member, on official letterhead) to the Board secretariat. A list of speakers will be prepared only for Update on the implementation of General Assembly Resolution 72/279 on repositioning of the United Nations development system. For inscription on the list of speakers, please contact the Board secretariat by email, as early as possible, but no later than 8 February 2019. There will be no lists of speakers for any of the other agenda items. The time limit set for delivering statements during the general discussion is 5 minutes for speakers on behalf of groups and three minutes for individual delegations. Delegations are invited to send electronic copies of their statements by e-mail to the PaperSmart secretariat at least 2 hours in advance of their speaking slot. The statements will be accessible electronically via the PaperSmart Portal at the time of delivery and will be under embargo until then. The opening meeting will take place on Monday, 21 January 2019 at 10:00, in Conference Room 1. Meeting of States Parties to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea Resumed Twenty-eighth Meeting 208th meeting Opening of the resumed twenty-eighth Meeting by the President – Item 1 His Excellency Sven Jürgenson (Estonia), President of the twenty-eighth Meeting of States Parties opened the Meeting. Minute of silent prayer or meditation - Item 2 The Meeting observed a minute of silence. Adoption of the agenda - Item 3 The President made a statement. The Meeting adopted, with amendments, the agenda to be included in the report of the Meeting as document SPLOS/327. The Meeting thus concluded its consideration of agenda item 3. Credentials of representatives to the twenty-eighth Meeting of States Parties – Item 4 The President made a statement. The Vice-Chair of the Credential Committee, serving as Acting Chair, made a statement on the additional credentials received since the Meeting of States Parties in June 2018. The Meeting took note of the statement and accepted the additional credentials mentioned therein, to be reflected in the report of the Meeting as document SPLOS/327. The Meeting thus concluded its consideration of agenda item 4. Election of two members of the Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf - Item 5 The President made a statement. The Meeting proceeded with the balloting.

In the one round of balloting, Mr. Yong Tang (China), obtained the required majority of two-thirds of States Parties present and voting. Mr. Tang was elected as a member of the Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf for a term of office commencing on the date of the election and ending on 15 June 2022. The President congratulated Mr. Tang on behalf of States Parties. The Vice-Chair of the Credential Committee made a statement. The President made a statement. A statement was made by the Chair of the Group of Eastern European States. The Meeting confirmed its decision at the twenty-eight Meeting in June 2018, that the election of one member in the Commission from the Group of Eastern European States will be held at the twenty-ninth Meeting of States Parties if the President received information about potential candidates no less than 14 weeks prior to the commencement of that Meeting. The Meeting thus concluded its consideration of agenda item 5. Other matters - Item 6 The President made a statement. The twenty-eighth Meeting of States Parties was adjourned on the understanding that it may be further resumed as required, before the convening of the twenty-ninth Meeting of States Parties.

Wednesday, 16 January 2019 Security Council [archived video] 8444th meeting The situation in the Middle East Letter dated 31 December 2018 from the Secretary-General addressed to the President of the Security Council (S/2019/28) The agenda was adopted without objection. The President invited the representative of Yemen to participate in the meeting in accordance with rule 37 of the Council’s provisional rules of procedure. The President drew attention to the text of a draft resolution contained in document S/2019/46, submitted by the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The Council proceeded to vote on the draft resolution (S/2019/46) before it. Decision: The draft resolution (S/2019/46) received 15 votes in favour, none against and no abstentions and was adopted unanimously as resolution 2452 (2019). The Council heard a statement by the representative of Yemen. 8445th meeting The situation in Report of the Secretary-General on the situation in Mali (S/2018/1174)

The agenda was adopted without objection. The President invited the representative of Mali to participate in the meeting in accordance with rule 37 of the Council’s provisional rules of procedure. The President invited Ms. Bintou Keita, Assistant-Secretary-General for Africa, Departments of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs and Peace Operations, to participate in the meeting in accordance with rule 39 of the Council’s provisional rules of procedure. The Council began its consideration of the item and heard a briefing by Ms. Keita. Statements were made by the representatives of , Kuwait, the United Kingdom, Germany, the Russian Federation, South Africa, China, Peru, Indonesia, Equatorial Guinea, Poland, Côte d’Ivoire, the , Belgium and by the President, speaking in his capacity as the representative of the Dominican Republic. The Council heard a statement by Her Excellency Kamissa Camara, Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Mali.
