Tom 12/2020, ss. 43-72 ISSN 0860-5637 e-ISSN 2657-7704 DOI: 10.19251/rtnp/2020.12(3) www.rtnp.mazowiecka.edu.pl Andrzej Dorobek Mazowiecka Uczelnia Publiczna w Płocku ORCID: 0000-0002-5102-5182 JOHN LENNON – CZŁOWIEK I ARTYSTA NIESPEŁNIONY? JOHN LENNON: A MAN AND ARTIST UNFULFIILLED? Słowa kluczowe: kompleks, trauma, dominacja, „krzyk pierwotny”, gwiaz- dorstwo, artyzm, niespełnienie Summary: In this essay, the author attempts at a synthetic insight into the biography of John Lennon, both as a confused genius of popular music and a victim of the childhood complex of motherly neglect: later transformed into the one of female domination and transferred onto Yoko Ono, his second wife and avant-garde “muse.” Consequently, their marriage, largely idealized by media, is shown here in the context of Lennon’s relations with other women (mainly his mother and aunt Mimi), his contradictory psychological traits and artistic/ ideological evolution that resulted in being torn between pop superstardom, avant-garde artistry and, in last five years, virtual creative impotence.

  • John Lennon - Much More Than Just a Beatle
PROFESORES ASOCIADOS EGRESADOS DEL INSTITUTO SUPERIOR DEL PROFESORADO EN LENGUAS VIVAS ‘Juan Ramón Fernández’ ADVANCED 2018 Nombre y Apellido 1. Read and answer John Lennon - much more than just a Beatle The circumstances of the murder of John Lennon are well enough known for it to be unnecessary to repeat them now. It was ironic that John Lennon, advocate of non-violence, should have died the way he did: though perhaps it was ironic too that John should have chosen to live in New York, one of the more violent cities in the USA. US president Ronald Reagan described it as "a great tragedy", and music radio- stations across the world played Lennon's songs, some of them in a non-stop tribute to the former Beatle who had such a tremendous effect on the world of the nineteen-sixties and early seventies. AN ACCIDENTAL HERO John Lennon never set out to become a hero, nor the leader of a whole generation. It came on him more by accident. He didn't want to be thought of as the leader of the Beatles — people forced it on him. "We're a co-operative" he used to say: but in the early nineteen sixties that was something people couldn't accept. "You must have a leader," they answered, and so John became the chief Beatle. He deserved the position, indeed, since he was the founder of the group, he wrote the words of most of their songs, and he was the dynamic force behind the others. "I'm just a 'uman bein' " he used to say.

  • 'Imagine There's No Heaven': John Lennon, Atheism and the Possibility of Public Theology
‘IMAGINE THERE’S NO HEAVEN’: JOHN LENNON, ATHEISM AND THE POSSIBILITY OF PUBLIC THEOLOGY Since the advent of global communication there have been a number of events which have metaphorically „stopped the world‟. Unexpected, sudden, shocking, perhaps outrageous, they have had the effect, not only of preoccupying news editors and opinion formers for months and even years thereafter, but of momentarily disorientating all of us as onlookers, of giving us a sense that the world has shifted a little on its axis and will never be quite the same again. Whether of natural or human causation, these are the events which, according to the cliché, we never forget where we were when we first heard of them. In recent times we would include 9/11 and the Boxing Day tsunami; in the slightly more distant past, the death of Princess Diana; and in the experience of those of more mature years, the death of Elvis Presley, the Warsaw Pact invasion of Prague and, most famously of all, the assassination of President John F Kennedy. And into this category, I suggest, would also come the shooting of John Lennon, 30 years ago this coming December. Lennon‟s death impacted upon us, not simply because it was so „out of the blue‟, so senseless, so brazen, but because it removed in an instant a person who had seemed, both in his heyday with the Beatles and subsequently as an activist, peace campaigner and independent musician, to personify the hopes which many entertained in the 1960s and early 1970s of an end to costly and futile conflicts like Vietnam, and the possibility of a new social order.

  • Early Days of the Pioneers Cuyahoga County and Brooklyn Township
EARLY DAYS OF THE PIONEERS CUYAHOGA COUNTY AND BROOKLYN TOWNSHIP BY EBENEZER FOSTER The writer of the history, Mr. Ebenezer Foster, was born on April 19, 1810 in North Stonington, Conn. 2 FOSTER AND FISHES IN THE EAST Jan. 1, 1880 My own personal knowledge of the events of which I write runs back sixty-three years. That which was handed down thru my mother’s family runs back one hundred years or more. That which was handed down from one family to another of my father’s kindred, runs back two hundred years or more. I will first write what has been handed down to me thru the family of my father’s brother. They say that our great-grandfather on my father’s side, came from Scotland to America with three brothers. 1 One settled in Molbren, two more to some other place, and the fourth at Watch Hill, R.I. The latter proved to be my great grandfather. I suppose that he married an American woman. There are only two sons handed down to us, namely my grandfather and his brother, George Foster. Uncle George Foster married a Davis. They raised no children. Grandfather married a Mane.i They had two sons, Thomas and Jonathan. While these boys were quite young their mother died. How long he lived a widower is not known. In due time grandfather went up to North Stonington, about fourteen miles, near Pendleton Hill, to a noted place called Billing’s Pond. Doubtless this name was given the pond because Mr. Billings owned most of the land around it.
