JOHN LENNON: A MAN AND ARTIST UNFULFIILLED? Słowa kluczowe: kompleks, trauma, dominacja, „krzyk pierwotny”, gwiaz- dorstwo, artyzm, niespełnienie Summary: In this essay, the author attempts at a synthetic insight into the biography of John Lennon, both as a confused genius of popular music and a victim of the childhood complex of motherly neglect: later transformed into the one of female domination and transferred onto Yoko Ono, his second wife and avant-garde “muse.” Consequently, their marriage, largely idealized by media, is shown here in the context of Lennon’s relations with other women (mainly his mother and aunt Mimi), his contradictory psychological traits and artistic/ ideological evolution that resulted in being torn between pop superstardom, avant-garde artistry and, in last five years, virtual creative impotence.

This series, presented from a strongly sympathetic royalist perspective, depicts 10 tableaux from the life of Charles I, be- ginning with his marriage to Henrietta Maria of France in 1625 and concluding with his execution and, pace the title of the plate, his Apotheosis. Even if the images themselves did not stress the romantic tragedy, the engraved text beneath each - in English for a domestic and French for a continental audience - provides ample detail concerning the sufferings of the mis- understood, otherworldly and much put upon Royal Martyr. Bathos (pathos!) aside, the series in nevertheless a triumph of engraving, a superb example of pictorial biography and several of the plates are superlative masterpieces of invention.

  • SOME TIME in NEW YORK CITY JOHN LENNON 'S TOWN Hinckley, David
Document 1 of 1 SOME TIME IN NEW YORK CITY JOHN LENNON 'S TOWN Hinckley, David. New York Daily News [New York, N.Y] 09 Mar 2005: 30. Abstract Nonetheless, all four, particularly [JOHN LENNON] and [Paul McCartney], took a liking to the town. Being that one of their major quests during their first years was to convince the world their music and messages could inspire more than teenage shrieking, New York was a good place to find validation. Both McCartney and Lennon enjoyed more than somewhat the attention of sophisticated and avant-garde artists. His next musical direction was somewhere else altogether. By 1971 he and [Yoko Ono] were keeping company with radical activists like Jerry Rubin and Abbie Hoffman, who were, of course, delighted to have Lennon's aura behind them. On Dec. 17 of that year, the Lennons made a rare live appearance, at an Apollo Theatre benefit for the wives of people killed in the Attica prison uprising. IN MARCH, around the time the FBI was telling Richard Nixon that Lennon might be part of a plot to disrupt the 1972 Republican convention, Lennon was handed a deportation order, citing a 1968 conviction for marijuana possession. Full Text CONSIDERING THAT both his first and final moments in the city drew saturation worldwide media coverage, it is mildly ironic that the reason John Lennon really loved New York was that he could walk around without anyone paying him any mind. Lennon arrived here at the well-documented moment of 1:20 p.m. on Feb. 7, 1964, aboard Pan American Flight 101.

  • John Lennon - Much More Than Just a Beatle
PROFESORES ASOCIADOS EGRESADOS DEL INSTITUTO SUPERIOR DEL PROFESORADO EN LENGUAS VIVAS ‘Juan Ramón Fernández’ ADVANCED 2018 Nombre y Apellido 1. Read and answer John Lennon - much more than just a Beatle The circumstances of the murder of John Lennon are well enough known for it to be unnecessary to repeat them now. It was ironic that John Lennon, advocate of non-violence, should have died the way he did: though perhaps it was ironic too that John should have chosen to live in New York, one of the more violent cities in the USA. US president Ronald Reagan described it as "a great tragedy", and music radio- stations across the world played Lennon's songs, some of them in a non-stop tribute to the former Beatle who had such a tremendous effect on the world of the nineteen-sixties and early seventies. AN ACCIDENTAL HERO John Lennon never set out to become a hero, nor the leader of a whole generation. It came on him more by accident. He didn't want to be thought of as the leader of the Beatles — people forced it on him. "We're a co-operative" he used to say: but in the early nineteen sixties that was something people couldn't accept. "You must have a leader," they answered, and so John became the chief Beatle. He deserved the position, indeed, since he was the founder of the group, he wrote the words of most of their songs, and he was the dynamic force behind the others. "I'm just a 'uman bein' " he used to say.

  • US Apple LP Releases
Apple by the Numbers U.S. album releases From the collection of Andre Gardner of NY, NY SWBO‐101 The Beatles The Beatles Released: 22 Nov. 1968 (nicknamed "The White Album") In stark contrast to the cover to Sgt. Pepper's LHCB, the cover to this two record set was plain white, with writing only on the spine and in the upper right hand corner of the back cover (indicating that the album was in stereo). This was the first Beatles US album release which was not available in mono. The mono mix, available in the UK, Australia, and several other countries, sounds quite different from the stereo mix. The album title was embossed on the front cover. Inserts included a poster and four glossy pictures (one of each Beatle). The pictures were smaller in size than those issued with the UK album. A tissue paper separator was placed between the pictures and the record. Finally, as in every EMI country, the albums were numbered. In the USA, approximately 3,200,000 copies of the album were numbered. These albums were numbered at the different Capitol factories, and there are differences in the precise nature of the stamping used on the covers.
