Faculty research programs (see individual faculty profiles) in psychological anthropology, complex societies, religion, political anthropology, anthropological archaeology, comparative primate behavior, neurobiology, paleodiet and paleoecology, Melanesian studies, Middle East, the General Caribbean, East Asian studies, Latin American studies, Judaic Studies and South Pacific studies. Members of the department are associated with Description the Center for US-Mexican Studies and the Center for Iberian and Latin American Studies, where new research is regularly presented in seminars by / Special resident and visiting scholars. Other special programs include the Critical Gender Studies, Global Health Program, African Studies, Science Studies Programs Program, Human Development Program, the South Asia Initiative, the Kavli Institute for Brain and Mind, The Center for Academic Research and Training in Anthropogeny (CARTA), Center for Research on Language, the Institute for International, Comparative Area Studies, The Center for Comparative Immigration Studies, and the Judaic Studies Program.

There are a number of research facilities and laboratories that are offered and affiliated with UCSD Anthropology including The Human Comparative Neuroanatomy Lab, Genetic Anthropology Lab, Linguistic Anthropology Lab, The Tuzin Archive for Melanesian Archaeology, Psychological-Medical Anthropology Lab, Center for Global Mental Health (CGMH), South American Archaeology Research Facilities Lab, Mesoamerican Archaeology Lab, Levantine and Cyber-Archaeology Lab, Center for Cyber-Archaeology and Sustainability (CCAS), Scripps Center for Marine Archaeology (SCMA), Paleoethnobotany Lab, and The Geoarchaeology and Human Ecology Lab. The program also has research and teaching links with the GIS Laboratory at the UCSD Geisel Library, the Linguistic Fieldwork Workshop, and the Scripps Center for Marine Archaeology (SCMA).
Graduate: Fellowships and TAships in Anthropology, as well as TAships in other departments and writing programs. Plus a wide variety of other support for both entering and continuing graduate students. Partial funding (through the department's Project Bucks) is available for most students' fieldwork. Additional Support Opportunities funds from various sources support research abroad. Funding is also available through the Dean of Social Science to present papers at scholarly meetings. The Anthropology Department sponsors the annual Dr. George Haydu Essay and Proposal Contest, with two $2500 cash awards.
