Preface The world had become roads and books for us, travel-loving journalists and writers with ABUJET. With the wind in our hair, we dreamed and flew, getting to know foreign peoples, strange customs, ordinary people... Suddenly, the COVID crisis put an end to all this. Locked in our own homes and hometowns, numb, unbelieving, confused, we slowly looked at ourselves. We looked for our roots. We opened our hearts to the beauty of our surroundings. We have always loved our native Sofia. She had a place in our hearts, but we failed to tell her out loud. And she, as a mother, waited patiently for her children. Today we’re declaring our love to her, recounting about inspiring artists who built her image of a capital. We’re resurrecting life in emblematic homes in Sofia. We’re talking about ancient Serdica and its millennial tolerance between cultures and religions. We’re touching the treasury of historical heritage in the city center. We’re admiring her dignified aristocratic architecture... We dedicate this collection to her - our wise, beautiful and beloved Sofia. 8 65 YEARS ABUJET – the storytellers’ club At the end of 1954, 67 years ago, the president of the Union of Belgian Tourism Journalists, Raf Alofs, called on colleagues from France and Italy to form a federation. On December 2, in Paris, colleagues from the three countries founded FIJET - the World Federation of Travel Jour- nalists and Writers (Fédération Internationale des Journalistes et Ecrivains du Tourisme). The first congress of the new organization was held in 1956 in Nice. In the same year in Bulgaria, a group of journalists writing on tourism topics established the Bulgarian Association of Journalists and Travel Writers - ABUJET. Among its “fathers” are some of the biggest names in Bulgarian journalism and publicism: Valeri Petrov, Bogomil Raynov, Bo- gomil Nonev, Nikolay Todorov, Ivayla Valkova, Yasen Antov and others. Today we can rightly call these people visionaries, because in that period tourism was not a priority of (communist) party policy. The founders of ABUJET were travelers for whom the world was a university, and every trip brought knowledge. Valeri Petrov has traveled all over Bulgaria. In 1957, he spent six months in the land of the Subcelestial Empire and the following year he published a “Book about China”. In 1965 he wrote the extremely interesting “African Notes”. For a long time, ABUJET was presided by one of the most eloquent storytellers - Yasen Antov, who toured not only many countries, but also every cor- ner of Bulgaria. • Regatul Romaniei
RegatulRomaniei file:///C:/Programele%20Mele/IstorieRomania1/RegatulRomaniei/Regat...
