Background Transport in the Republic of India is an important part of the Nation's economy. Development of infrastructure within the country has progressed at a rapid pace, and today there is a wide variety of modes of transport by land, water and air. The State of Maharashtra is situated in the Western part of India. The state has a transportation network consisting of railways, roadways and airways, which form the lifeline for the economic and social activities of the state. Road transport is a dominant mode in the State for the transport of goods and for the movement of passengers. Presently three routes are available between Mumbai and Nagpur. Currently, the travel time between these two major cities is 14 hours. There are many industries at Buti Bori, Thane and Aurangabad along the project highway. To improve the communication and development of these cities which will directly improve the development of backward regions of Marathwada & Vidarbha in Maharashtra State, there is need to reduce the travel time and make fastest possible communication between these cities. Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation Ltd (MSRDC) is a corporation fully owned by the Government of Maharashtra. MSRDC is mainly involved in development of roads, bridges and other major infrastructure projects including land, flyover projects, toll collection rights and works under construction which vested with the State Government and were under the control of the Public Works Department but have been subsequently transferred to MSRDC. MSRDC is primarily engaged in providing strategic and integrated infrastructure services within Maharashtra State. 2. The proposed Expressway Consultan ts Name Page No Maharashtra State Road Development STUP Consultants P. Ltd. –JV- E&Y LLP 1 of 10 Corporation Limited, Government of Maharashtra Pre-Feasibility Report Access Controlled Nagpur-Mumbai Expressway- Package-II with access control with a design speed of 150 km/hr will reduce the travel time to almost half of the current travel time. MSRDC divided the proposed Expressway into five packages and appointed STUP Consultants Pvt. Ltd. as a consultant for preparation of feasibility study and DPR for the package II: Pulgaon to Sindhakhed Raja (Amravati Division). 3. Objective The main objective of the consultancy service as per TOR is to establish the technical, economical, and financial viability of the project, avail Environment and Forest Clearance and prepare detailed project reports for construction of the new alignment of Nagpur- Mumbai Communication Super Expressway with Access Control. To study various alternative alignments, compare and getting approval for the best feasible alignment from Competent Authority. The viability of the project shall be established taking into account the requirements with regard to rehabilitation, upgrading and improvement based on Expressway design, pavement design, provision of service roads wherever necessary, Intersections, Construction of bridges and structures, Road safety features, quantities of various items of works and Cost estimates and Economic analysis. To study and analyze, economics of different land pooling/procurement models for Expressway project, Nodal development projects along the expressway & utility services along the Expressway independently. Explore, suggest, plan and design with financial viability of various schemes for additional revenue generation through Nodal Development via Info-tech Hubs, Logistic parks, Agricultural Hubs, Industrial Hubs, Educational Hubs, Medical Hubs, Smart Cities, Resorts & other recreational centres, etc and leasing for utilities through dedicated utility corridor to be provided in the Median. 4. • The Astronomy of Two Indian Tribes: the Banjaras and the Kolams
Journal of Astronomical History and Heritage, 17(1), 65-84 (2014). THE ASTRONOMY OF TWO INDIAN TRIBES: THE BANJARAS AND THE KOLAMS M.N. Email: [email protected] and Harini Calamur 1602 C Lloyds Estate, Vidvalankar, College Road, Wadala E., Mumbai 37, India. Email: [email protected] Abstract: We report field studies of the astronomical beliefs of two Indian tribes – the Banjaras and the Kolams. The Banjaras are an ancient tribe connected with the gypsies of Europe while the Kolams have been foragers until recently. They share their landscape with each other and also with the Gonds whose astronomy was reported previously (Vahia and Halkare, 2013). The primary profession of the Banjaras was trade, based on the large-scale movement of goods over long distances, but their services were taken over by the railways about one hundred years ago. Since then the Banjaras have begun the long journey to a sedentary lifestyle. Meanwhile, the Kolams were foragers until about fifty years ago when the Government of India began to help them lead a settled life. Here, we compare their astronomical beliefs of the Banjaras and the Kolams, which indicate the strong sense of identity that each community possesses. Our study also highlights their perspective about the sky and its relation to their daily lives. We show that apart from the absolute importance of the data on human perception of the sky, the data also reveal subtle aspects of interactions between physically co-located but otherwise isolated communities as well as their own lifestyles.

GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF EARTH SCIENCES EARTH SYSTEM SCIENCE ORGANIZATION INDIA METEOROLOGICAL DEPARTMENT A Preliminary Report on Depression over Bay of Bengal th st (30 July-01 August, 2013) CYCLONE WARNING DIVISION, NEW DELHI AUGUST, 2013 Depression over the Bay of Bengal (30th July- 01st August 2013) 1. Introduction: A depression formed over northwest Bay of Bengal on 30th July, 2013 Moving west northwestwards, it crossed north Odisha and adjoining West Bengal coast between Balasore and Digha around 0700 UTC of 30th July 2013. It caused heavy to very heavy rainfall over, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. The salient feature of this depression are given below: (i). The depression initially moved northwestward before landfall and then it moved westwards up to east Madhya Pradesh. (ii) Due to its slow westward movement over east Madhya Pradesh and adjoining Chhattisgarh,, it caused very good rainfall activity over the region. 2. Monitoring and Prediction: The depression was monitored with satellite, meteorological buoys, coastal, observations and Doppler Weather Radar (DWR) Kolkata & Nagpur. The half hourly INSAT/ Kalpana imageries & scattrometer wind and every 10 minutes DWR imageries and products were used for monitoring of depression. However the genesis of depression could not be detected through the satellite as any T number could not be assign. Previous studies also indicate that Dvorak technique has the limitation in detecting the monsoon depression as these are highly sheared system. Hence the intensity of the depression was mainly monitoring through synoptic observations from coastal stations and buoys over the sea. Various numerical weather prediction (NWP) models including IMD’s global and meso-scale models were utilized to predict the track and intensity of the depression.
