BIO Update (continued from page 5)

2. Listening campaigns have been established to help de- fine priorities for BIO's organizing efforts. Groups gather to share issues that need solving in their communities such as those focused on transportation, immigrant justice, and ra- cial justice which are just a few that have been recently listed as primary areas for immediate action.

3. An “Immigrant Welcoming Covenant” was drafted for com- mitment to the burgeoning Berkshire Sanctuary Network. Led by South Congregational Church, there are now nine congre- gations that are committed to the Berkshire Sanctuary Net- work.

4. Numerous trainings have been offered to BIO volunteers including a three-month, weekly course to learn Spanish, an eight-week Leadership Change Academy (taught online by Harvard instructors) focused on teaching the science of or- ganizing, Cultural Humility Training for the Executive Council (led by Multicultural Bridge), and a training that taught 60+ people the hows and whys of “accompaniment”—that is, ac- companying immigrants who are called for hearings by the state or ICE.

If you are interested in spending time helping people help themselves, you may want to consider attending a monthly BIO meeting. Meetings occur the second Thursday evening of each month and rotate between participating institutions of faith throughout the county. Should you want to volun- teer at the BIO office, it is conveniently located at the Unitar- ian Church on Wendell Avenue.
