GLOBAL SUSTAINABLE TOURISM COUNCIL (GSTC) DESTINATION ASSESSMENT

The re-branding of the CEPTS programme included a full assessment of all three islands. The assessment was geared toward educating the public and private sector about the measures to be taken to increase environmental sustainability within the tourism sector.

The approach is twofold. The first part of the process is to have the destination assessed through the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC). The GSTC was sought out as the only viable company that offered the service of assessing a destination for environmental sustainability. GSTC will assess the destinations policies and practices against the GSTC criteria for recommendations for improvement. The assessment will take place over a 2 week period in June 2015.

After the destination is assessed and the results over compiled, this information will be used to build a set of criteria that will be unique to the Cayman Islands and will be the first country in the Caribbean to have their own unique environmental criteria. GREEN GLOBE RE-CERTIFICATIONS

Compass Point Dive Resort completed its desktop audit for Green Globe re- certification in June 2015.
