    Back to the 80s Montag 04.07.2011 Zirkuszelt, 20.00 Uhr CREDO Martyn Ware und Ian Craig Marsh, beide Fans der deutschen Elektronik Pioniere Kraftwerk, Schulfreund Philip Oakey als Frontmann und ein Bandname in Anlehnung an das Science Fiction PC- Spiel Star Force: The Human League war geboren. "Don't You Want Me" war ihr größter Frühachtziger-Synthie-Pop-Hit und wurde 1981 zur meistverkauften Single in England. Das stoische und unterkühlte „Being Boiled“ dagegen gehört in die erste Bandperiode und wurde 1978 in Mono aufgenommen. Die Erstveröffentlichung floppte und erst in den Achtzigern belegte es einen Platz in den UK-Charts. Ihre Bühnenerfahrungen waren zu Anfang nicht einfach. Iggy Pop nahm die Band mit auf die erste Europa-Tour. In der Erinnerung Oakeys wurde die Band damals praktisch mit allem beworfen, was die Punk-Fans so bei sich trugen. Ware und Marsh verliessen Anfang der 80er die Band. Oakey kam auf die etwas seltsame Idee, mit den blutjungen College-Mädels Susan und Joanne, die niemals zuvor gesungen hatten, den Verlust auszugleichen. Zusammen mit Wright, dem Ex-Bassisten Ian Burden und Ex-Gitarrero Jo Callis an den Tasten wurde "Dare" 1981 zum Riesenerfolg (fünf Millionen verkaufte Platten) und bescherte auch den Ex-Mitgliedern volle Konten. Oakey wurde derweil mit seinem unförmigen Haarschnitt und der dicken Schminke zum Anführer der Synthie-Pop-Bewegung. Ware und Marsh kehrten übrigens mit Heaven 17 wieder ins Pop-Bewusstsein zurück. In den folgenden Jahren wurde es ruhiger um die Band. Doch von den Konzertbühnen waren The Human League, vor allem in England, nicht verschwunden.
