TRON PROJECT 30 th Anniversary

TRON Symposium Steering Committee 30th Anniversary of TRON Project. All the achievements of TRON towards the realization of Ubiquitous Computing environments gather here. Greetings

TRON Project marks its 30th anniversary in 2014. Since the start of the project in 1984, we have been making efforts towards the realization of “Computers Everywhere”, i.e. ubiquitous computing environments. With cooperation from many people and organizations of industry, government, and academia, our efforts are now gaining world recognition. Furthermore, regarding TRON Project, which provides the infrastructure for the development of ubiquitous computing, many results including computer handware, operating systems, middleware, development environments, and appliances have become available. A number of feasibility study experiments and practical applications using the Ubiquitous ID technology have steadily been proceeding, and the Ubiquitous ID technology has come to be introduced into various areas. Now we have finally entered the stage where “Computers Everywhere” will become a reality. As we continue this project, the TRON Project Symposium has been held every year in order to introduce our activities to the public. Many VIPs from home and abroad have attended the show. Which means this show has drawn increasing attentions, and I feel public's growing expectations of TRON Project. TRON Project 30th Anniversary, “2014 TRON Symposium (TRONSHOW)” will be held at Tokyo Midtown in Roppongi, Tokyo, from December 10 to 12, 2014, with the technical co-sponsorship of IEEE Consumer Electronics Society. At this year's symposium, the various approaches for the construction of the ubiquitous computing environment will be the main theme, and various achievements of TRON Project will be introduced also. The annual Enableware Symposium, “TEPS 27th,” will be also held to provide an opportunity to consider supporting physically-challenged people with computers. We hope you support this symposium, provide sponsorship for, and enjoy being involved in this symposium, which I am sure you will agree is for a worthwhile cause. Ken Sakamura Chair, TRON Project Symposium Steering Committee Professor, Graduate School of Interdisciplinary Information Studies, the University of Tokyo Chair, T-Engine Forum

TRON Project has been using the next numerical year as part of the generic name of the annual symposium and its accompanying exhibition for the last dozen years or so. So the event would have been named “TRONSHOW2015” if we had followed the old practice. But there is an IEEE internal preferred policy for using the numerical year in the title of the annually event which IEEE and its societies sponsor or co-sponsor. And it was implicitly assumed that the year is the year when the event is held. So it was decided that the symposium to be held in December 2014 is called 2014 TRON Symposium, and the accompanying exhibition is simply referred to as TRONSHOW without the next numerical year in the title to avoid confusion. 2014 TRON SYMPOSIUM (TRONSHOW 2015) would have been too confusing. Yes, TRONSHOW2014 (symposium and exhibition combined) was already held last year in 2013. We have decided to do away with the past naming practice. Please be aware of this year number issue when you read the web pages of TRONSHOW in the past.
