Bolmida © SST 2000 - 2004 2 Introduzione all’edizione 2004 Nell’autunno del 2000, la Società Scacchistica Torinese ha pubblicato “C’erano una volta i Re”, un libretto che ripercorreva la storia del circolo, scritto in occasione del novantennale della fondazione. Sono passati quattro anni: il contributo della Regione Piemonte ci permette di riproporlo adesso on line. Non abbiamo voluto toccare il testo di allora, comprensivo di premessa, cinque capitoli e appendici. Abbiamo invece doverosamente aggiunto un sesto capitolo, che aggiorna la storia con gli avvenimenti più recenti. Abbiamo anche aggiunto, negli Albi d’oro conclusivi, i nomi di quanti nell’ultimo quadriennio hanno acquisito titoli per entrarvi. Torino, ottobre 2004 3 4 Una doverosa premessa C’erano una volta i Re. Il “piccolo Re” di casa Savoia, Vittorio Emanuele III, sotto il cui regno la Società Scacchistica Torinese venne al mondo. I Re leggendari della scacchiera, che di quando in quando scendevano fino a Torino, in visita ai loro virtuali possedimenti scacchistici: Siegbert Tarrasch, Aleksandr Alechin, e in tempi più prossimi Vassili Smyslov, Boris Spasski, Anatoli Karpov. E naturalmente il Re bianco e il Re nero, che ogni giorno, in ogni partita che comincia, si sfidano nell’eterna battaglia la cui posta in gioco è la morte di uno dei due. Questa piccola storia della Società Scacchistica Torinese nasce per accompagnare af- fettuosamente il novantesimo anniversario della fondazione.
